Joe Brolly walking a tightrope?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

It's not like me to defend him, but Brolly adored the Tyrone team of the 00's. If he was having a go at a team, they were never compared negatively to Kerry, but to Tyrone. He was also a big campaigner for Tyrone as team of the decade until Cork beat them in 2009, after which he seemed to be silenced.

He was very critical of Tyrone last night, but I felt he had to be. Tyrone were indeed very cynical. I know all counties get into it, but Tyrone were pretty obvious last night.

I dont know whether to laugh or cry. Tyrone get stick for fouls given away in the last five minutes. Yet last year pundits including McStay highlighted on tv how foolish Limerick were against Kildare in allowing Kildare to go up the field unhindered in scoring in the last minute to take the game into extra time.

He talks sense does he not??? No worse feeling than watching your team go hell for leather in the last 10 minutes to take the lead then being dragged down by a rugby tackle. You can't even take a quick free as the man who dragged you down holds on to you, plus time is wasted as the ref gets the card out. It's a horrible sight! Personally I can't wait until these changes come in.

Apart from the comment about awarding the penalty all he said last night was entirely justified. His analysis was accurate.

Brolly is a great pundit, but he is definitely over the top on all issues. That is why he is a great pundit.

I would like to hear what his reaction is to the comments made by mcgeeney about pundits who were cowards on the pitch.

Tyrone did what they had to do to win and shouldn't be criticized for it.

If people have such an issue, then it is the laws of the game which should be addressed - and they are being addressed.

I like the brand of football Cavan play - the way in which they dispossess opponents is phenomenal and we work some fine scores. But if it takes a 13man blanket defense and a cynical dour game to topple Kerry then bring it on!

Not a fan of Brolly but he is far from alone in walking a tight rope, everyone of them utilise the platform to satisfy their personnel vendettas against certain counties. At least Brolly admits his dislike for certain counties the rest insult the public's intelligence pretending they are providing a non bias analysis.

1444470 Although i respect Brolly as a person and he is a character that like's to stir things up.I have really gone off him.It seems he is more in Love with Donegal than his on County' which i find a bit cringe worthy. A bit of banter is all well and good but the interupting just for the sake of it is getting tiresome

He is very accurate normally, however it is the way he makes his comments that really annoy folks.

He admires how Donegal and more specifically how Jim McGuinness operate's. They went last season and forced teams like Tyrone, Down, Kerry, Cork and Mayo to play the game on their terms and looked superb doing it. He felt the same about Tyrone in the 00's, and isn't afraid to say it.

Spillane is not my favourite, Colm O'Rourke is grand and Kevin McStay is excellent. I feel McStay is one of the most honest, yet respectful pundits on tv. He calls it purely on tactic's, performance and ability, With no bias.

His comments were justified apart from the one concerning the awarding of the penalty. His analysis was accurate.

There are an awful lot of hypocrites on here. When Brolly correctly highlighted Mayo's cynical dragging and pulling against Dublin in the 2012 semi final many of you castigated him and said he was trying to influence the officials in the final. Then Brolly was pilioried and condemned for daring to criticise Mayo YET when he does the same to Tyrone MOST of you agree with him!! So it's OK to have a go at Tyrone and Donegal for negative tactics but give a bye ball to Mayo, Dublin, Kerry, Cork when they do it??? This once again leads back to a point which surprise, surprise you are all ignoring and which was the most truthful thing Brolly said last night "Northern teams are hated down here.....it's outrageous". He is spot on; Southern GAA people and media elements are mute when it suits them but well dare those Nordies come down here and do it! HYPOCRITES!

I agree Ulsterman, Brolly was dead right on both occasions and thankfully we have a blackcard next year to stop those pesky Northeners and Westeners from ruining our game.

What's funnier is when people say "can't wait for the black card" when in reality it won't change a thing.

Will a player still commit the same foul? Yes. He gets replaced. Does that really disadvantage a team with a few minutes left protecting a lead? No.

I dident hear what Joe said or did as I was at the match. no one turned off or on a switch in the last 10mins. The banter at it was great and Meath are a team on the up. Tyrone are a more experienced team and grinded out a win, however I never thought for a second from 20 mins in or so other than Tyrone would win this. I felt they always had another gear if they needed to use it. as regards SON well he moved outfield as he was getting a lot of " attention" but not anything like the off the ball body checks that he got last weekend or against Donegal. His last tackle was a tackle that went wrong for him and not malice I do believe.

Benjyyy I agree. The black card wont change anything. Teams with big panels will simply rotate the panel.
