Hope I'm wrong but I have a feeling this game could turn nasty. If the ref allows a few late hits go unpunished then he is in for a long match. The pysicality in the modern game is dominating too much and especially for amateur players. Hopefully it will surprise us and turn into a really good game.

I would criticise this 'pot, kettle, black' talk, which makes it sound like Horan was ripping into Donegal. He was actually pretty reasoned by what I read!

Mayo to go in at half time leading by 0-09 to 0 - 04, with Mayo to pull away in the second half by 0-19 to 1 - 7

Much ado about nothing here lads. There was plenty of "cynical" fouling in the Mayo - Donegal final last year but there were no serious or dangerous hits. (I'd call them proper manly hits but that wouldn't be politically correct in the environment we live in today). The reality is that many players (on all teams) go down easy and make tackles look worse than they are. Managers also exagerate the seriousness of these tackles to take away from their teams weaknesses. I think it's a bigger problem for our sport than the powers that be appreciate. It puts people off watching the game and makes the game less genuine in every respect. Lets hope that both teams stand up to each other in a manly fashion and that some of the ridiculous antics that have become prevelent in recent times are kept to a minimum. These antics include: diving; feigning injury; mouthing; blocking free kicks from being taken; kicking the ball away; tapping lads on the head; "maor uisces" spending more time running around the pitch than some of the actual players; stupid celebrations (fist pumping etc) when playeers score a run of the mill point or win a free; etc etc etc. All teams do it and Mayo and Donegal are 2 of the leading culprits.

Big bad Horan squaring up to Donegal, pity he couldn't be like Jimmy Mc and just stay quiet and say nothing....

The headline is misleading as Horan actually never said "pot, kettle" and actually shows admiration for Donegal

I be really surprised if this is high scoring game but im feeling more confident as the days go by.

Donegal 1-10 Mayo 0-11

McFaddan to get Man of Match

Any word on whether Dillon, Moran or O Conner can start? These are 3 big players for mayo and potentially even bigger loses than lacey and Mchugh for us.

Many people say Donegal are out of sorts, in second season syndrome, have too many key players out, are beatable, etc.. Mayo on the other hand are seemingly destined to finally lift Sam Maguire the year, have sailed through the championship and beaten all around them convincingly. They have the hunger.

So it seems Donegal are incapable of doing the business this weekend. This prevailing narrative is questionable in my opinion!

I believe firmly that the pressure is on Mayo big time. We have our All-Ireland from last September, Mayo still have questions to answer until they cross that line. They need to deliver now. If they do and go on to win Sam, I'll be delighted for them genuinely. But I still believe the old seeds of doubt are there no matter what their players say in the media. I still detect an uneasiness there. I think if they have any inkling of doubt against Donegal or the hovering weight of expectation rests heavily, then Donegal will punish them. I feel that Donegal's best is yet to come. They have geared up for Croke Park and the latter stages of the championship for the last few years under McGuinness. Instead of looking lethargic as some suggest, Donegal will be absolutely rearing to go come next Sunday for me. I'd worry if my previous opponent was London, no disrespect intended, but I feel Mayo will be a bit startled at the ferocity they will be met with next Sunday. For those reasons I feel we will win the game.

I hardly ever post serious but i have to say the most striking aspect to the build up to this game already and it has been given a lot of attention, is there has not been a mention of actual football.

Has our game gone so far down this road of ploys, psychology , reverse psychology, mind games, gettin the ref on your side, balh blah nonsense. A part of me nearly hopes both teams fall on their arse and Kerry just runaway with Sam Maguire under the oxter playing exhibition gaelic football.

What about Donal Vaughan with his back to the ball punching murphy in the face busting his nose never even contested the ball. So get off your high horse mayo fans.

True dstuction. Also, people are making a big deal of mchugh being missing, but he was pretty quiet last year from the quarters on, and they got on fine without him doing a whole lot. Lacey will be as fit as moran so I dont see how one is worse than the other. Is mcglynn fully fit? I know he was struggling before. He seemed ok the last day but 3 games in 3 weeks might aggravate it again.

To the lad on about murphy getting a busted nose. I dont recall him going off for a blood sub...

Mark my words, if this is a close game its going to come down to keith higgins, he is going to have a special role in this game. Mayo scored 2 goals in the league, but they were against the most defensive teams in it, tyrone and donegal, higgins scored one and created the other, through his speed. Mayo are going to try kick ball into there full forward line, but if this fails Higgins will be moved up in the hope that he splits the defense

You nearly had it all right up until your last point Jimbo. The amount of late third man tackles Mayo got away with in that game was unreal. Not seen on TV, you had to be at the game to see them as they were so late they were off camera. How Donal Vaughan finished the game that day I'll never know.

The thing with that though, is donegal had a higher number of tactical fouls in this game, and donegal killed mayo with tactical fouls throughout the second half. What is worse, they got away with it. Im happy enough saying both teams do it, in fact every team in the last 8 do it. I know the donegal half forward line will have blocked more runs than kicked balls over the bar come sunday evening, and depending on our lineup, it is possible the same could be true of ourselves. My gut feeling is if we can cancel out donegal's cynical play then we have every chance of beating them. That isnt knocking them either, just stating what I think.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say it was the two goals at the start of the game that killed Mayo last year! I was a bit of a non-event after that, we took the foot off the pedal and Mayo huffed and puffed for a while. Obviously the result was what we were after but I'm hoping for a better game of football this year.

This is going to go down to the wire, I believe Donegal can and will win this game as I believe there is at least one big performance in this team and I believe it will arrive on Sunday, will that be enough to beat mayo I'm not so sure, they have looked really impressive but the fundamental issue here is that they have not been tested this year, In fact they will not have played a game with such high intensity since the AI Final last September, for this reason I think donegal will win by 1-12 to 0.13 with Michael Murphy the MOM.

ben1977. He can stick him on mcfadden. Keane fairly cleaned him out when he went onto him in that game...

Mayo lads do you think Mayo will go with the same set up as Down and Monaghan or will James H. have something different up his sleeve?

I personally cant see ye playing with two sweepers and asking them to stick. Who knows!
