Donegal v Mayo

I think the hype going into this game is good for both teams

Donegal do look like they need something to give them a lift.
Mayo could do with a high pressure high stakes game where they are favourites. Good to test their psychology.

Biggest problem I see for Donegal is Murphy. We've seen him man marked out of games this year - now teams know it can be done and will aim to do it.

Looking forward to Cavan V Kerry game before the Mayo match in Croker. Two brilliant traditional footballing counties. Great to see Cavan back. Hopefully for this young team we will see them visit Croker many more times over the comming years. Hope its a good game . Good luck to Cavan & Kerry. I expect this game will be played the way football Should be played.

Belmay, welcome to the mad & wacky world of HS where nothing is as it seems & danger lurks round every corner.

What is this oul guff about the way football "should be played"? I'm listening to this palaver from counties all over Ireland & the one thing most of them have in common is that they haven't won an AI in years & chances are they won't win one for years to come. Get over it, championship football is a game where winning is the only thing that really counts in the end & if playing a certain style gets you over the line then that is the way you "should" play. If it doesn't then you "should" find another style.

Mayo would want to mark Micheal Murphy better than last year Have they a man to mark him. ??? As regards Kerry v Cavan have you not seen Cavan play yet Its not like the way football was played years ago , Cavan are all about blanket defence same as most other teams Also once football started to devolepe in Ulster in the 50's Cavan fell by the wayside For the fact Donegal reached an Ulster final for the first time in 1963 ,won a first Ulster in1972 Tyrone won first Ulster1956. Derry , I think in1958 but those counties haved shared a lot of Ulster titles over the last50 years plus they have won All Ireland's while Cavan have won nothing much in those years Also can see Ulster football staying strong over the next few years Without Ulster teams Kerry would have 10 in a row

Theres that word popping up again, tradition. From a Mayo poster, a traditional GAA county whos great tradition of slipping in the word tradition into threads about their by now traditional appearance in the AI QF stage has become something of a tradition on the pages of Hoganstand. I like tradition!

Muckross, will ya be belting out a few of Daniel's numbers after a few beers about Drumcondra on Sunday?

Sing with me now,

"I'm sailing on a foreign ship,
that's bound for Montreal,
But I'll view the world,
and make my destination Donegal...!!"

I'd say he is a fan of the GAA. But he might have more pressing matters to deal with. His poor better half is battling breats cancer God love her. Some things are more important in life.

It'll be a turgid match, up there with Donegal v Dublin and Donegal v Antrim. I don't think there will be a combined score of 20 points. Could go either way.

Lockjaw, there are tears in my eyes as I sing here in my kitchen with my Magees jersey taut against my manly chest!!

Give me a hand with this

"This is my homeland
The place I was born in
No matter where I roam it's deep in my soul
My feet may wander a thousand places
But my heart will lead me again to my Donegal"

At this stage the stitching on the oul jersey is gone & I'm in floods COME ON DONEGAL!!!!!!

I think it has the potential to be game of the championship. Its a game between the 2 best teams of last year both who have yet to fully prove themselves this year (not mayos fault). The battles of words in the lead up and the not know who really is fit to start.

I think when the first whistle goes it will be a hardy but good match. I expect some great score taking from both teams. The blanket is hard to maintain in croker.

u will see more of cavan in croke park over the coming years, they are getting the hang of winning.

Traditional footballing counties is old hat at this stage. all irelands won 50 years ago will not count for anything that goes on in the hear and now, and tradition is not enough to fall back on any more. Nice sentimental photos for sure, but thats about it.

Kerry are the last remaining county that can boast being both traditional and a modern team to boot. They have maintained a lineage from the old days to the present day bar one barren decade, but made up for it in spades when they won again in the mid 90s.

Oh the Green and Red of Mayo
I can see it still
It's soft and craggy bogland
It's tall majestic hills
Where the ocean kisses Ireland
And the waves carress it's shore
Oh the feeling it came over me
To stay forever more
Forever more
