We don't want to go down the road and end up segregated like the ones across the water. So it's good incidents like these are highlighted and nipped in the bud

Are the supporters segregated in Ruislip and in Gaelic Park? I didn't know that.

I have to say that Omagh in February 2006 was one of few times I was glad to get away from a GAA ground. I don't think it is representative of Tyrone fans overall but there was definitely an element there who seemed to think they could do whatever they liked which included harrassing Dublin supporters, including children, and at one stage making a move for the Dublin subs! Worst of all was that some of the stewards were getting carried away by this instead of stopping it! Seems as though the problem has not been dealt with 7 years later.

Haha Culann I've played in Gaelic Park and can safely say that the vast support over there is never segregated. Not so sure about Ruslip though!

Why bring this up again now, was sorted back then no one in their right mind would condone what happened.

How was it dealt with? I for one have heard nothing about it & have no idea who the spitter was. Until these people are identified, named with photos then there is not deterrence. It is not enough to say that it has been "dealt with" or was "sorted". Not alone must justice be done but it must be seen to be done.
Not for one minute am I saying that everything in Donegal is a bed of roses. We have our share of embarrassments as well & there is one ground in Donegal that I won't visit anymore because of a small knot of lunatics who make life unpleasent for visiting supporters. But spitting is n a different level & needs to be stamped on publicly.

This is just stupid, what do you want a picture released in the national media or direct to donegal, what use is that going to be to you. He was dealt with by the county board and that should be enough. Awful action but your not going to try ruin the mans life for a moment of madness. Just keep him away from being in a position to do so again. I have definately noticed the problem at county games and definately been embarassed by our fans but as i stated it seems to be older men and women. Can't understand why people can't just go to the game and cheer your team and have a bit of chat with your mate about who you think should or shouldn't be playin, shouting and roaring anything else is over the top.

Again this goes both ways, I wasat this match and embarassed for both sides. I witnessed drunk dublin fans behind the goals throwing their cans of special brew at kids. Dubs are in no position to chat. Moderator deleted half my last comment to. Murphy and lacey are no angels and its rich complaininga bout people shouting at them the abuse they throw out on the field

redhandefender, some people will do what they think they can get away with. Seems to me that if stewards were more proactive and told someone to cop on, that in most cases that would nip it in the bud. If one eijit gets away with acting the clown then others will follow. I've seen stewards in Croke Park and in Parnell Park telling people to shut up, in a nice way :-), when they were becoming offensive. Usually the embarrassment is enough to sort things.

Out of interest, how did the Tyrone CB deal with this? Was the scumbag-who-spat-on-another-person banned? If so, what was he banned from? How was the ban to be enforced? Were his details to be made known to all GAA clubs in Tyrone? Was his name and picture made available to the stewards in Ballybofey in May so that it would be ensured that he would not be able to attend the game?
Please fill me in.

Muckross - for what it's worth, the spitter was identified by the County Board and told not to be doing that type of thing again. Case closed...

It's not worth much. The spitter was identified & all that happened was that he was told not to do it again? That is not my definition of dealing with the incident. He should be identified and while this maybe tough on the individual concerned it would be exactly what he desetves & might stop someone else.

Muckross - I agree with you 110%. But that is the kind of leadership we have. Love to sing and point out when things are going well. Happy to bury their heads in the sand when it's not. Same as most I suppose.

How pathetic do you sound redhand trying to justify the actions of a small minority of your supporters. Spitting is disgusting and has no place in a civilised society. Deal with the issue instead of spouting this tripe that Lacy more or less deserved what he got....

I remember the Tyrone fans attacking Dublin subs during the battle of Omagh in a league game a few years ago.

Not one player or fan or member of background teams from both the Dubs or Tyrone reprimanded for these disgraceful scenes.

Just again highlights how backwards the GAA is.....

Eg....Patrick Horgan getting sent off for striking a guy in the head with a hurl. And people saying.... "its harsh"

If the GAA started getting its house in order and punishing all of these offenses....starting sending guys off for late tackles and running in after the whistle and kneeling on guys faces....we wouldn't be talking about this nonsense year after year.

Fans say disgraceful things.....but not everybody is a disgraceful fan.

The only new thing I learned from that article was to never challenge Karl Lacey to an arm wrestle. Jesus wept his forearms are bigger then my legs.

I went to all of anytime games a few years back when we qualified for the ulster football final, the Donegal & Cavan fans were excellent. Although yea the Tyrone fans are now very obnoxious and up themselves that is put to the success they have had but I think this article is pointless, yea a few let themselves down but every county has that 'few' time to get over it and play some football today me thinks

Lifford Gael, he also remembers Dublin supporters in Omagh throwing cans of "special brew" - no less :-) - at little children. Never happened. We all know what did happen and it has happened to a lot of visitors to Healy Park. We were spat at, punches (not very accurate thankfully) were thrown, flags were pulled out of childrens hands and off cars. And so on. Most unpleasant day I have ever spent in a GAA ground. Have seen a few of the animals in action in Croke Park as well. Be better suited to nature documentaries than watching matches.
