I have to say that Omagh in February 2006 was one of few times I was glad to get away from a GAA ground. I don't think it is representative of Tyrone fans overall but there was definitely an element there who seemed to think they could do whatever they liked which included harrassing Dublin supporters, including children, and at one stage making a move for the Dublin subs! Worst of all was that some of the stewards were getting carried away by this instead of stopping it! Seems as though the problem has not been dealt with 7 years later. hurlingdub (Dublin) - Posts: 6978 - 19/07/2013 11:36:01 1435821 Link 0 |
Haha Culann I've played in Gaelic Park and can safely say that the vast support over there is never segregated. Not so sure about Ruslip though! Lockjaw (Donegal) - Posts: 9769 - 19/07/2013 11:40:37 1435826 Link 0 |

redhandefender, some people will do what they think they can get away with. Seems to me that if stewards were more proactive and told someone to cop on, that in most cases that would nip it in the bud. If one eijit gets away with acting the clown then others will follow. I've seen stewards in Croke Park and in Parnell Park telling people to shut up, in a nice way :-), when they were becoming offensive. Usually the embarrassment is enough to sort things. hurlingdub (Dublin) - Posts: 6978 - 19/07/2013 12:10:25 1435853 Link 0 |
Out of interest, how did the Tyrone CB deal with this? Was the scumbag-who-spat-on-another-person banned? If so, what was he banned from? How was the ban to be enforced? Were his details to be made known to all GAA clubs in Tyrone? Was his name and picture made available to the stewards in Ballybofey in May so that it would be ensured that he would not be able to attend the game? Muckross - for what it's worth, the spitter was identified by the County Board and told not to be doing that type of thing again. Case closed... EnolaGay (Tyrone) - Posts: 653 - 19/07/2013 12:10:45 1435855 Link 0 |

Muckross - I agree with you 110%. But that is the kind of leadership we have. Love to sing and point out when things are going well. Happy to bury their heads in the sand when it's not. Same as most I suppose. EnolaGay (Tyrone) - Posts: 653 - 19/07/2013 16:32:27 1436082 Link 0 |

I remember the Tyrone fans attacking Dublin subs during the battle of Omagh in a league game a few years ago. JayP (Dublin) - Posts: 1772 - 19/07/2013 19:33:38 1436180 Link 0 |
The only new thing I learned from that article was to never challenge Karl Lacey to an arm wrestle. Jesus wept his forearms are bigger then my legs. white.n.blue (Monaghan) - Posts: 249 - 19/07/2013 21:34:35 1436252 Link 0 |
I went to all of anytime games a few years back when we qualified for the ulster football final, the Donegal & Cavan fans were excellent. Although yea the Tyrone fans are now very obnoxious and up themselves that is put to the success they have had but I think this article is pointless, yea a few let themselves down but every county has that 'few' time to get over it and play some football today me thinks Liambo27 (Antrim) - Posts: 5 - 20/07/2013 09:49:37 1436290 Link 0 |
Lifford Gael, he also remembers Dublin supporters in Omagh throwing cans of "special brew" - no less :-) - at little children. Never happened. We all know what did happen and it has happened to a lot of visitors to Healy Park. We were spat at, punches (not very accurate thankfully) were thrown, flags were pulled out of childrens hands and off cars. And so on. Most unpleasant day I have ever spent in a GAA ground. Have seen a few of the animals in action in Croke Park as well. Be better suited to nature documentaries than watching matches. hurlingdub (Dublin) - Posts: 6978 - 20/07/2013 10:34:01 1436300 Link 0 |
