Katrina's looks can boost camogie

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

The mother of Wexford star Katrina Parrock has urged the Camogie Association to use the player's good looks to promote the sport.

Liz Parrock made the call after the three-time All-Ireland winning forward was captured by the RTE cameras entering the pitch in a pair of denim shorts to give a team-mate water during Wexford's clash with Kilkenny in Nowlan Park last weekend. Katrina was unable to play due to a broken arm, but it would seem she still made quite an impression with viewers and has picked up hundreds of male admirers as a result.

"Katrina is known for her skill and prowess on the field foremost, but that doesn't mean she can't also be looked upon as pleasant looking," Liz said in the Irish Sun.

"The Camogie Association have a great marketing tool at their hands, and I'm surprised that corporate companies like Luzocade and the likes haven't take them on board.

"Some people might say it's not the right attention, but if it promotes camogie in a positive light, it is okay by me."

Does she have a point or is this just an absolute load of rubbish ?

I don't like the attitude personally ..

Imagine Paul Galvins mother coming out saying her son's looks could boost the the image of Gaelic football..

Madness.

Dont see anything wrong with it myself. A mother looking for a nice lucrative deal for her good looking daughter. Id say that that somebody will give Katrina a sponsorship deal of some kind. If it helps promote womens sport then good on her for speaking out.

What an awful statement, I coach best part of 40 or so camog's and its not a beauty contest. Most want to be taken seriously as an athlete very few men would get away with those comments. Parrock is a terrific Camogie player on a very successful team these comments don't further the game one step. Elsewhere on this forum is a thread with some soil,y sexist comments because it comes from a woman its all the worse. Never mind the uncomfortable self-promotion just stick to the sport, its hard enough keeping girls in Camogie without this stuff getting in our way.

Depressing to hear such a sentiment expressed, it patronizes all the committed camogie players out there. This doesn't promote camogie, it promotes sexism. Last years AI final helped promote camogie, Ursula Jacobs famous goal helped promote camogie. The standard of the game has improved so much in the last few years, that's what should be getting peoples attention. These women are skilled athletes, they don't need to indulge in this puerile nonsense in order to get attention.

But this isn't promoting camogie in a positive light, this is promoting an individual for her looks.

the only reason some women watch men's football is to gawp at the well toned bodies. what's the problem. I would have no issue being seen as an object of desire.

In fairness to her Ma the clip got a bit of attention online and I'd say she was contacted by the 'journalist' and asked a few leading questions.

Think about it a bit.

In fairness, if the girl can make a few quid from being good at a sport and easy on the eye, then fair play to her. Didn't Anna Kournikova give up playing tennis soon after all the other work snowballed??
