London and the UK has been good to plenty of lads who were scratching their asses on the dole back home, with a Goverment who had let them down. I am sure they would love to show their appreciation to Lizzie and the country by singing their hearts out to GSTQ

Similar to what would happen before Barry McGuigan fights, couldn't Johnny Logan or Linda Martin sing Danny Boy??? Or Twink maybe??

I say we let the Connacht boys discuss this amongst themselves, after all this is their championship final.

And we've been good to the UK, seeing as we're the fifth biggest contributor to their economy. No need to sing our national anthem to show their appreciation though, just bring back Dangermouse and Blackadder and we'll call it quits.

The Master

"Tom Court is entitled to irish citizenship, just as these lads in london are entitled to live and work in london, train in london, represent london. London is their team, just like ireland is court's team. I say again, we dont play the austrailian national anthem for him. I wouldnt have any issue with london being represented with the english national anthem. Im not saying it is happening, but if they wanted it I would have no issue with it, particluarly if boris johnson or whoever else was present after being invited. That is jsut being respectful. Our game is inclusive, not elitist."

Ok, final post on this. You may not have a problem with the playing of an English national anthem in McHale Park (how awfully big of you!)but a lot of people do. There has been no request from London GAA to be facilitated in this way, especially given that they don't do it when they play on home soil in London.

Your Tom Court analogy is a red herring, and even contradicts the point you were making. Tom Court is one Australian in an overwhelmingly Irish national rugby squad. As you say, we don't play the Australian national anthem for him alone. Given that there's a max of one or two British-born players in London's squad, it makes no sense that you would moot an English national antem to be played at the Connacht SFC final on this basis.

You also sidestepped the question of GAA games in the North. But then, as your contributions on the Ulster football thread show, you're a master of ducking and weaving questions that prove difficult for your argument.

Ok, last post confirms for me that you're trolling, but I'll play along for the craic (or would you prefer that I spell it 'crack'?).

This is why there should be a like button on this forum. Seriously though dont get annoyed lads, its clearly a joke.

I'm not annoyed, lack of emoticon smiley is a pain!

I wouldnt have anything against GSTQ being played before a London game, I just dont see the logic. It is an Irish sport, an Irish competition and an Irish team which just happens to be made up of exiles living in the UK. Other than that it has nothing to do with Britain or the queen or anything. This is basically a wind-up thread

I do wonder about proposals like this as to the motivation. Are people just ignorant or are they setting out to purposely hurt and offend people.

I have played for London in the past and not one player on the team then would have played under the British anthem, I would assume it is roughly similar now. It is not funny or witty or clever to be coming out with ideas like this - it is just offensive to try and foist on people a nationality that they don't ascribe to them themselves. I would assume the whole idea of being Irish means very little to the people who would consider such an idea.

Again, why offend people needlessly, I really do not understand for the life of me the motivation.

With the way things are going would it not make more sense to play "Deutschland über alles"? The sooner we acknowledge and welcome our new German Overlords the better. And sure with German blood pumping through Mrs. Windsors blood I'm sure she wouldn't object.

I think if you ask the London team what they want to be played, the Irish anthem would be wanted...

Those London players have moved to England, have probably done so for work anyway on the most part, and have no allegiances to the queen...

It seems silly to play the British anthem

It would definitely cause a stir if it was played! But I dont think it should happen and all the London team is Irish anyway

was at the game in Carrick and was disappointed when the stewards would let me hang up my Union Jack with Lonodn Boys on Tour. I hope the stewards in McHale Park are a bit more undertsanding.
