Anthems at the Connacht final

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

At the New York game in the Connacht Championhip, the American National Anthem is played along with the Irish national Anthem before the championship match. Wouldnt it be a great symbol and sign of respect if God Save the Queen was played along with the Irish National Anthem before the Connacht Final. There have been calls for the Mayor of London to attend the match. Playing God save the Queen would be a mark of great respect to him and the London team.

Follow the hash tag #playgodsavesthequeenincastlebar on twitter and lets hope GAA HQ and the Connacht council hears us and gives this mark of respect to the London team.

I think we should respect the opinions of the players involved. I hope Boris Johnson doesn't snub his constituents by declining the Invitation to attend this historic. Match

Good man Paddyogall.

Nice to see that when I returned to the country that there is still a bit of craic to be had and that you have not lost your sense of humour. Great thread.

No. Almost their entire panel are Irish born and raised, and even some who were born in Britain, such as Crossmolina's Sean Kelly, spent most of their lives in Ireland. I fear that this is a well- meaning gesture that is very misguided and may even offend (a lot of London's panel are from the North).

The London players are Irish not English! Don't think they would be impressed. They could play The Pogues "Boys From the County Hell" :-)

we ran them out of castlebar before but sure aren't we all Europeans now, ....and in enda's back garden .... Give it a verse at least and see how we get on, have the words printed in eng and irish in the programme, and maybe get the wolfe tones, Christy or shane McGowan to perform. Daniel O'Donnell OBE/MBE or whatever would be more than delighted to be asked.
