1417752 You'd think the Galway supporter would be more worried about the decline of football in his/her own county before talking about the 'stature' of the current All-Ireland Champions. It just stinks of jealousy, understandably so, Galway are stuck in the stone age in terms of football and are miles away from success.

A bit rich coming from a Down man saying we are miles away from success!! We have nothing to be jealous of, sure, we'd love to be at the top table of gaelic football but it comes in cycles for us. We had it good between 98' and 01'. With 2 All Ireland u21 titles in the past 3 years its up us to make the most of it. No doubt in my mind there is enough young quality footballers in our county to make it happen.
They said Mayo were miles away from success in 2010, look at them now, one of the main contenders for Sam!

How is it a bit rich coming from a Down man? I'm not the one on here patronising the current Ulster and All-Ireland Champions by stating football must be in decline if a team of their 'stature' are successful. Galway could learn a thing or two from Donegal and Mayo. After seeing Galway in their last championship game, they have a massive lot of work to do before they challenge for Sam again.

Football and interest in it might be in decline in the other provinces but the Ulster attendences are holding up very well and that says it all. The Ulster Championship will always give you close, exciting games with a bit of passion and physicality thrown in while the Munster and Connacht games are just a succession of boring non contact friendlies for Mayo, Cork and Kerry. Leinster can throw up decent games every so often and Croker will always add to the atmosphere of games and tomorrow should be a good day out for fans.

Bottom line is yes Football is in great health in Ulster. Munster is muck, Connaght is muck and Leinster is about to be won by Dublin for the 9th time in 10 years? Lets face it, time for change to the structure, top teams are preparing to a higher standard year after year. Smaller dual counties cant compete with that, and thats reality. Carlow, Laois, Offaly Westmeath, are all investing in both, and are still only spending a fraction of what Donegal, Kildare do (albeit Kildare are trying to promote hurling to alesser degree.).
So the question is, is football in decline, possibly? But more than likely the gap is widening, we are at the business end of the championship with Cork v Kerry the only final that is interesting, in terms of picking the likely winner. So to me, that would indicate that outside of Ulster, the provincial championships have lost their appeal.
Need to look at the structure, and making it viable for a team to train for 8 months to be some way competitive at their level. Pointless Offaly investing in our senior team to face drawing Kildare straight off in the Leinster Championship, for the second year in a row.

Yes Lads maybe I should have gone to specsavers, like I could have swore the Donegal/Tyrone game had 18,000 and the Donegal Down game had 22,000 obviously I am seeing double or treble....
And where there is "Exciting" open turkey shoots in Munster where there are 4000 in attendance I must not be seeing properly the lads packed into the stands.....
Cavan/Monaghan was exciting to the last kicks of the game..... Didnt watch the end of the Dublin turkey shoot, wasnt much point.... No harm to Dublin, they did what they were supposed to do, great if your a Dub fan but no suspense or excitement edge of the seat stuff in the second half
