I think maybe the words 'the last day' threw a few people...

It certainly did benjyyy, some of your fellow Donegal
posters have very cynical minds! I mean, as if I would
deliberately plant a double entendre in a post! ;)

I can see Donegal really going for the jugular.

I'm sure Jim was releaved to beat Tyrone and happy with the character shown to silence the critics but he also very hard on the players in the last few weeks for the mistakes made. Thay have been training like dogs since the Tyrone game and the Down game is where he wants to correct those mistakes. So the notion that Donegal could be complacent going into this is out the window.

Man it's good to be looking forward to an Ulster Semi Final with Down instead of staring down the barrel of the qualifiers like poor Tyrone. Still, they might get away with bullying a few southern counties in that part of the All Ireland Series seeing it didn't work with Donegal in Ulster.

GateKeeper, you should indeed head to Breffni Park on Sunday to support your county's Minors.

Donegal-abroad. The last team that sang that tune a few years back met them again in an AI semi final and I will let you get the fun of guessing " WHAT HAPPENED NEXT"????

Border Gael, support Monaghan and never mind blowing about Tyrone, they do enough garbling about themselves with someone else rowing in behind them! And I don't care what happened to some other team in some other year. Happily living in the here and now and supporting the best team in Ulstet is a good feeling I intend to embrace. Up Donegal!

Very hard to back against this Donegal team, but if Down can bring their traditional championship football with them, plus a bit of luck it's not a foregone conclusion by any means!

Hard to see it though.

id like to think that down could win if they keep it tight stay with Donegal and close them off they might be in with a chance but the norm now with Donegal is they come out with speed in the 2nd half and pull away from there opponents they are a very fit team so that's a major factor taken these on and that's before a ball is even kicked .in saying all that its got all the makings of a cracking game Donegal for another crack at ulster and down to cause an upset.ive a feeling this might be a tighter game than people think...

1412355 One of these days some team is going to have some good fortune and get a real head start on Donegal and how they react to unknown territory will be very interesting. For the sake of conjecture supposing Down got that fast start and shocked Donegal with a couple of early goals well then they'd be in with a real chance. Of course, on all known form and if Donegal continues in their controlled fashion they should win but as ever with Down you can always expect the unexpected.

They would probably react the same as any of the other top 3 or 4 sides who had gone behind by a large margin. Shutdown their defensive weakness and then start clawing back the scores. The problem is gaining a vast lead over a team with Donegal's defensive capabilities, while not leaving your backline exposed to their full forward line.

We aren't talking about simply beating Donegal here, I'm sure any one of the top 5 or 6 teams could come out on top of a tight encounter with them. Purely at opening a vast lead against them and making them chase it.
We are talking about opening up a vast lead, and making them chase it.

I dont understand the argument of wondering what would happen if Donegal were to fall behind early. Tyrone opened a 6-1 lead over them in the Ulster semi in 2011 and we managed to pull that back I wouldnt think its a particular wonderment or argument.

The referee is ruining this game. He is far too whistle happy and is allowing for NO physicality whatsoever. He is also penalising Down for everything and allowing Donegal to get away with the same things, strange that? I firmly believe that Ulster Championship games should be refereed by Ulster referees; officials from outside the province DON'T understand the game and rivalries here.
