Donegal v Down

You know there's a lack of a comeback when you feel the need to correct spelling as oppose to replying to the content of the actual post. Anywho, MourneArmy, wouldn't it be great if it was as good as the Derry game, as I was saying before if Down tighten the defence and as Pat Spilane says 'beat the blanket' then we might have a chance of a place to contest for the Anglo Celt Cup! Here's hoping and praying anyway!!

How could anyone tip Down for this match ? Donegal are massive favourites. They have the history of excelling in recent years. Down on the other hand haven't beaten a top team in championship football since 2010- suffering heavy defeats against Cork, Donegal and Mayo in the process.

Artisan, how boring would sport be if it didn't through up shocks and surprises along the way? Let's embrace the challenge which Down face on Sunday. In boxing terms the challenger v the champion.

Definitely MourneArmy. We'll hopefully give a good account of ourselves on Sunday. At the same time we do have to be realistic. What is the point on coming on here saying Down will beat Donegal ? We have done nothing in recent years to suggest that will happen. That said, I'm looking forward to the game and I'll be happy so long as we don't jack it in with 15 minutes to go. It will be very interesting to see how far Down have come on in terms of fitness and game plan compared to last year.

The more the week goes on, the more I am starting to
believe that Down can cause an upset in this game!
At 5/1, come on Down the price is right!

Over 16,000 tickets already sold for this game. Not bad going considering there's still another 4 days to go.

It's a great price in a two horse race. Are the GateKeeper millions going on?

Haha GateKeeper, has your renewed belief in the Mourne cause got anything to do with the fact you may have lumped a little money on us?

I can see Down putting it up to Donegal and possibly causing an upset here, no-one giving us a chance. I have my money where my mouth is, 5-1 is too good to turn down in an Ulster Championship match.

Down need to show Doengal no respect whatsoever, and can't afford a moments lapse or Donegal will be in on goal.

I'm hoping for a good match and can see the game being decided on goals. my prediction is Down by a point, Down 3-11 Donegal 1-16

Not an awful lot of interest in this game which is worrying for me if I'm honest.
Do people think this match is a foregone conclusion? It's amazing what a bit of success can do to peoples' attitudes. The complacent notions of some of our sunshine supporters is irritating to say the least. One genius even told me that he was waiting until the August bank holiday weekend to start going to the matches again as Ulster was as good as won after the Tyrone match. I would almost guarantee with 100% certainty that this same fella was no where near Ballybofey when we were losing to Antrim or being hammered in Crossmaglen.

The reassuring thing however is that Jimmy will have no doubt dispelled such nonsense from the players' minds in the lead up to Sunday. Ryan Bradley played his best football last year at midfield while Neil Gallagher was out injured. It'll be interesting to see how he gets on Sunday. He definitley is due a big game. Declan Walsh, while not as dynamic as Karl Lacey, will do a steady job. Other than those two enforced changes it should be business as usual for Donegal. I'm predicting a Donegal win by 4-5 points after a game battle from Down.

Safe travels to everyone and I hope you all enjoy the game!

Down will have trouble beating Donegal, however lets hope that the ref takes full control of the match and that the off the ball stuff that Donegal are dishing out this year is yellow carded immediately. that would be a huge help in the line of fair play to Down immediately and give them a chance of winning. Last day out the off the ball stuff was galling to watch and all officials turned a blind eye to it. It was started by Donegal and when they were getting away with it the kept it up an then Tyrone seen nothing was been done so they fought back on and off the ball. Come on Down!

This could be a cracker down will have no fear of Donegal and with there quick forwards they could easily trouble this Donegal defence, they our small players but they have so much pace and quick hands they will be trying to draw Donegal into giving away frees.
The big worry would be there defence and trying to contain donegals big guns up front,if down give away goals that could hand Donegal the game. Result Donegal by 3.

Down are a dangerous proposition for any top side in Ireland, as on their day they are capable of beating anybody. I've noticed a big change to Down's conditioning this season, which has made them a lot better.

Donegal are naturally favorites, as reigning Ulster champions and All Ireland champions. But Down are a formidable prospect for Jim McGuinness and co.
I still think Donegal will edge Down out, but it will likely be a very close encounter. Down showed against Derry that they have come on leaps and bounds, and beating Donegal is not beyond them.

As potential All Ireland contender's, Donegal are lucky in many regards to be playing the likes of Down and Tyrone in Championship already, and facing teams of Caliber that can really test them and will stand to them.
