Yeah jimbo its only a short dander - even shorter if you have had a few refreshments prior.

Samforthehills - yeah Finaghy is the next stop on the line and there is a pub just up from it - the Emerald Roadhouse.

That's the one. Thought that was a fair step to casement. I wasn't going to a match when I was there though so don't know myself was only what someone who was with me said.

jimbo - just checked the distance going the route you would have to walk from the station to the gates of Casement and it is 1.9kms. So unless you are walking at 2mph you should be there well within half an hour.

What will the atmosphere be like in a Ulster final if it is only half full. For example if it is to be Donegal and Monaghan which may be the case this year would 45000 travel to Casement?? Doubt it

Stick it into google maps and see what you get.

I see there were 2 more hijackings not far from Casement last night, never heard of that in Clones.

Jimbo

Don't listen to the antrim person, that isn't the case and I'm sure you can google it yourself. What he conveniently forgot to say was that you will have to get a train from Dublin to Belfast city centre and the get another train back the way you came to get off at balmoral or finaghy stations (not all trains stop at these and very few and far between on Sunday), alternatively you would have to get a train from Dublin to Portadown and then change to a local service. So as you can see the train isn't very convenient.

Tom - jimbo asked where the nearest station was which I have provided the details for. As for the distance I didn't just grab that figure out of thin air - its from googlemaps and using the distance function they have. Have a wee go yourself then come back and tell me I am wrong, or alternatively as the case will be apologise nicely and as I am a nice person I will be forgiving without handing out Hail Marys.

Step 1 - open google maps, step 2 - enable the distance measuring tool, step 3 - click on the train station at balmoral (this will put down your first marker), step 4 - click at each point along the roads which you will walk until you come to Casement and bingo, it calculates your journey distance for you.

Now, all I have done is provide facts here and you are the one coming out with all wild manner of statements e.g. half hour walk, carjacking etc. What next, people looking at you funny, rain falls heavier around Casement. Relax and embrace the idea, its not worth getting annoyed about.

Is this fully funded by the British Govt? Or do the GAA have to ante up some money?

Sadly, other than Ulster Championship Finals do not see it been filled!

Well there has been many years where croker hasn't been filled for the leinster champ and some years when it only sold out for the all ireland finals.

Ulster has had many a year where clones was sold out and more people would have gone if they could. It's also a kip and it's a nightmare trying to get parking and to get to for a lot of counties. With the motorways going in and out of Belfast plus it's south belfast location casement won't be any worse off than the dive known as clones.

If the GAA were smart they'd play all ireland quarter finals involving northern teams there. so if donegal were to face cavan or monaghan in this years quarter final a redeveloped casement would be perfect. with top class facilities and spectator comford you will find the attendances for the finals will grow. a lot of people don't like standing or sitting on concrete benches for matches. This is one development that the GAA got right. Only 14 million being spent by themselves. Bargain.

A total waste of money and effort! Unlike Dublin,
Belfast is not a GAA stronghold, it does not deserve
this stadium! Clones is the home of Ulster, do not
expect Clones hospitality in west Belfast!

Beautiful stadium, look forward to seeing it complete. And the unasked Q's question is 'yeah but is it safe getting there with my dub shirt!'

Exactly. It is a soccer area (and british soccer at that).

No I suppose you guys are correct. Belfast isn't a GAA stronghold with its 22 clubs. Would be much better in The stronghold of Clones with its 1 club (?) or the stronghold of Omagh with its 1 or 2 (?) clubs.
