After the way they destroyed Galway,
could this finally be Mayo's year?

The've as good a chance as any. If Donegal and Mayo both keep up their end of the bargain which is by no means a formality which we all know, they're on for a collision course in the Semi's. If Mayo win that game you have to feel they'll take whoever is in the final.

Pure speculation now. We're in early June though a lot of football (club and county) to be played. Anything can happen in the meantime.

I had a euro for every time I heard that........

Simply put, no. You can't base the Galway game on anything, we are beyond poor.

No, we will be beat by Dublin in the final and that will make it seven times runners up in a 24 year period, has to be a record in itself.

Not to take away from Mayo's win, but a decent school team could have taken apart Galway on the day.

Definitely see them getting to the semi's and wouldn't write them off as possible finalists. After that, who knows? They're definitely afraid of no-one and are capable of turning over every other team. But consistency has always been a problem, that and not choking on AI final day.

You have a record as it stands, no?

It's their year to win three in row Connacht titles for the first time since the 50s the whole GAA world will be awe of that achievement.

Seriously though Mayo aren't good enough to win senior All Ireland and add in this years huge expectations levels it will be no surprise if the likes of Tyrone,Kildare knock them out at the quarter final stage.

Before Cillian O'Connor's injury I would have said a definite yes as I saw a meanness & ruthlessness against Galway that I hadn't seen before. But O'Connor is a huge loss as big as Murphy would be to us.

Oh here we go! Poor Mayo fans will have a torturous summer if this chat gets going. They have a chance but it's a long summer and a few injuries to key players (they have about 7/8 key players with the other spots up for grabs)would scupper them badly. Looks like they've already lost O'Connor until August at least.

Kerry were runners up 7 times 1960 to 1982
Galway were runners up 7 times 1955 to 1983,
Dublin were runners up 7 times 1975 to 1994

So if Mayo reach another final and lose it they can join that list the only difference you won't have many from Kerry,Dublin or Galway talking about finals they lost.

Fair enough, but Galway, Kerry & Dublin won their fair share of titles in those years as well so the comparison is not a fair one. It's not the lost finals that hurt it's the fact that there is no win in there to leaven the pain, that's what really hurts.

I think it's time they won it. If they don't do it this year will James Horan hang around? i could see the Mayo form decreasing if he were to leave.

I still think Donegal are the team to beat but a few injuries for them could prevent them from winning back to back All Ireland's.

Not while the few remaining lads of their 1951 team are hanging around anyway! If you're superstitious that is.

No. There are two sides to the unlucky story. One they are unlucky to lose so many finals. But two they are lucky to be getting to so many finals by virtue of having an easier path to the final. If Mayo had to play in Ulster I don't think they'd make half the number of All Ireland Finals that they have.

Haven't the forwards, they rely on O'Connor kicking frees for a huge part of their game plan, teams will cop onto this and stop fouling them near the goals, its that simple. Dublin and Donegal's forwards would hurt them.

tyroneed, you do realise that mayo have beaten the teams that have come out of ulster to reach those finals dont you? Obviously you remember mayo beating tyrone, and we beat down last year. We also beat fermanagh in 2004. Those were the teams that got out of ulster, i.e. one of the best ulster teams in that given year, and mayo beat them. What you are saying doesnt make sense.

I don't think O'Connor's injury is going to affect them too much in the short term. I mean, realistically they are going to walk through the rest of Connacht with or without him. So that leaves him until the August bank holiday weekend to get the shoulder right. Now, he will of course be lacking Championship match fitness but would be a major lift for Mayo when the real business gets under way.

All that said, I think Mayo are semi-finalists at the very least. A possible re-match with Donegal and a chance for revenge. As someone mentioned earlier Mayo have become a bit of a mean machine under Horan. Add in a fit Andy Moran and O'Connor and they'd take some stopping. The elephant in the room is as always the psychological baggage. In a really tigth AI final, with minutes to go would you trust them to see it over the line?

Still a whole lot of football to be played yet though and I'm by no means arrogantly suggesting that Donegal will be in the semi-finals for sure. We're not looking beyond those aristocratic, goal getters Down in Clones!
