sure they beat the second best team in the game yesterday, you cannot be not on the top shelf after that result.

While beating Tipp is a good scalp, I don't think one win in Muster in 6 years instantly transports a team to the top shelf. I would be more inclined to assess Limerick's season after the championship has ended rather than after the first round. Tipp are still one of the best teams in the land but I personally don't think they're as good as they were in years gone by (and this also isn't based on one first round match). The likes of Kelly and Corbett, who would have graced any team, are getting towards the end of their careers and it's very difficult to replace talent like that.

I was just giving my two cents about Limerick hurling in general. I think the game on a whole would be richer if they got back up to the levels of the early 80's / mid 90's.

Some lovely comments there lads, cheers. It was mentioned 19 thousand officially lads, there was at least 25 thousand in my view, now i could be wrong but the Mackey was full that holds 8-9, uncovered looked like a good 8k in there and the Caherdavin terrace was mobbed and that holds 10-12k, i could be wrong with the figures they hold, i know the city terrace can get 13-15. Gutted when we did not have our city terrace open, that is the equivalent to our hill and that is where we usually congregate so peeved with that.

Now onto the hurling, the victory is being slightly tarnished with how poorly Tipp hurled in some quarters, you can only hurl as well as you are allowed, Tipp's missed goal chances are all over the media, limerick had 3/4 great goal chances with Deccie Hannon twice and Seanie and James Ryan late on. It was great for all concerned that one of the so called lower teams got a scalp but sure we should have done them last year but we chucked it, added to that vs Kilkenny we gave a way 3 shocking goals which i don't think we will do again and that would have been far closer.

However bad a Limerick team are they will generally give everything to the cause. Yesterday our most potent hurler Graeme Mulcahy got no decent ball and he is lethal on his day, added to that we wanted to make it a war of attrition which we did, whoever wanted it more would win and i think we did enough to shade it, we played a very defensive half foward line but we have the bench to change it and that is something we have not had for a long time. Happy and delighted :-). If Clare win it will be in the GG if Cork Thurles i would expect, should be very closer and a belter whoever we meet.

yeah but who do you regard as top table?
tipp were next best limerick beat them,so i cannot see outside of kilkenny any other team they would fear after beating tipp.
so that would leave just one team at the top table haha

Unfortunately, yes, I do consider Kilkenny to be sitting alone at the top table. They have the pedigree, the experience, the players and they did the double last year and have already won the league this year. I think Tipp and Galway are on the next tier with either of them capable of beating Kilkenny on a given day but I wouldn't put them as favourites to do so. The next tier down contains the likes of Clare, Limerick, Cork, Waterford and possibly Dublin who are all of a roughly similar enough standard and could beat one of the big guns but would be long shots for the ultimate prize.

However, this thread is about Limerick hurling and I for one am very much looking forward to a Munster final involving them. I'd love it to be against Clare as its been a little while since either name has been on the cup and to watch the two teams tear into each other with no quarter asked and no little skill on show.

I genuinely believe that although they have had a breakthrough win they need to make the Semi's minimum! Its all well and good beating Tipp but they need to Kick on. I really like Limerick and Limerick folks ever since the League matches down there back in early 2000's, good GAA folks. Would hope that the players keep their heads down and work harder than they were and back up their win.

I cant discribe the feeling winning on Sunday, I wont lie, I fought back tears, it took me 30 secs to realise first then emotion took over. I was with clubs mates and one of my best mates was with his club mates a few rows back at the final whistle he came down and just hugged me, our friendship comes from Hurling and the Gaa, and he felt the same. I think we both realised after the strike and the hammering in 2009 and everything previous, this is something different, different to 2007, no matter what happens now its all positive even if we fail to win Munster. I dont believe this crop of players has the pressure the previous crops had hanging over them. I believe the strike drew a line in the sand and i think the future is very bright.

I think your right. this crop of players want to win like every other Limerick team in the last few years but the big difference is they know what it takes to win and are willing to sacrifice all they have to accomplish it. exciting times on Shannonside

Sunday's win was huge but it has to be a stepping stone to the Munster title or it doesn't take us too far.

We are crying out for silverware.

I am with slayer on this one,Limerick needs to win Munster now otherwise it has just been one win in a championship game. Not alone will it be a Munster title but straight to a semi final too.
