I see from an interview with O Grady that he has only won one Munster Championship game in 10 campaigns with Limerick. I knew Clares Munster champiosnhip record was bad but that is shocking

Have great time for Limerick in terms of hurling. After my beloved Galway football Down are my other favourite football team (for reasons menetioned in another HS thread) and Limerick are my other favourite hurling team. Happened to be at the '96 final against Wexford with a mate and both of us were completely neutral before the game given the long wait for success for both counties. By by half time he veered towards Wexford and i veered towards Limerick. Saw Gary Kirby standing under the canal end goal crossbar at the end distraught and the heart went out to the treaty men. If they win tomorrow could be a big year. Agree they are only a big win from a major challenge.

Dublin almost totally dominated the first half, possession-wise, and yet were only a point up at half time. I still can't see them loosing. When Wexford scored a fine goal to take the lead with about five minutes to go, Dublin had about six chances of equalizing again before they managed it, and even went in leading by a point.

You simply can't give the other team that amount of possession and expect to win. Wexford's touch is simply awful. You can't give a slick team like Dublin second chances. Dublin it is.

We are in the Munster final now & no matter who it is against, one thing & one thing only matters - winning.

Be it 0-2 to 0-1 or a high scoring encounter, we need to win. 17 years since our last Munster title win, 40 years since our last All-Ireland, these players need to make their own history & put silverware on the sideboard.

Here's my view

Well bleedin done Limerick... hope you go onto win Munster

Makes Dublin's division 1B win seem that bit more substantial

Although going by our performance in the Wexford game... :(

First off, Limerick were fully deserving of their victory yesterday. I was very impressed with how they regrouped after Tipp's goal and went on to outscore them 0-09 to 0-02 (I believe) after that.

In answer to the original poster's question, a big pro for Limerick has been the emergence of Nicky Quaid. I don't think Limerick have had a top drawer goalkeeper since a pre-injury Joe Quaid. The likes of Murray, who looked very impressive when he first emerged, was too easily beaten on his "bad" side and once other teams sussed this then this was repeatedly targeted. Quaid made some great saves yesterday (as he has done on several previous occasions) and while it was a great team effort, he could still easily have been the difference between victory and defeat.

The big con, from my point of view, is the lack of scoring forwards (a problem we know all too well in Dublin). The half forward line yesterday was very workmanlike but you wouldn't be relying on them for too many points and Hickey, while a very good defender, looks somewhat lost in the forward line. Lads like Allis (who I rate highly from the under 21's) who came on are good players but more of the same. The inside forwards looked very dangerous with their pace but actually scored very little. I suppose Limerick's hope lies in the likes of Hannon, Dowling and Downes, who have all shown that they have the ability to be big players (and scorers) for their county. If they can all develop into the players they promise to be, then Limerick could become a force. Until then, I still think they will stay off the top shelf as they will remain susceptible to outplaying teams but still losing due to being outscored (and no need to point out that being outscored is how all teams lose).

kurt angle

sure they beat the second best team in the game yesterday, you cannot be not on the top shelf after that result.
they would most likely only fear kilkenny now, they would believe they would be beat any of the other teams in munster after yesterday.
where is the munster final down for this year thurles? if its limerick v clare surely should play it in the gaelic grounds as its only 5 minutes from clare border instead of dragging them both to thurles.

Of all the counties that play hurling Limerick seem to most catch the imagination the few times they produce it in high summer. The colour and dash associated with Limerick hurling is unreal and hurling is always better when they come good. Waterford tend to have a similar effect. I remember the Munster final replay in '96 down in Cork. The colour Limerick brought that day unbelievable for a provincial final. Their support really comes out when they show signs of a breakthrough. It was the same in 2001 when they got to the provincial final. I have absolutely no link with county but like Down in football they catch the eye. Fair play yesterday. The Gaelic grounds was rocking at the end.

also another thing to put to bed is that you need to have full houses for to have an atmosphere.
the gaelic grounds holds 50 thousand and there was only 19 thousand there yesterday yet there was a great atmosphere there.
one thing though that i dont like seeing is happening munster lately ,they tend to open only one terrace and leave the other one empty it doesnt look great on tv have to say.same as in croker only opening one section of the hill why not let people all have a bit of comfort
