Cheers bud.

Yeah I think I'm going to revert to the 'tradtional' route wha! Yeah via Belfast is listed as quicker alright and that's the reason I've given it a go but I wasn't sure.

Heading up in a couple of weeks and going to go via Monaghan again.

1400935 So we'll have a brand new 40,000 all seater state of the art stadium, with all the facilities people need, and we have people giving out about moving the Ulster GAA headquarters there, because of some notions about "tradition, atmosphere and walking up a steep hill" to a ground which will pale in comparison to Casement. Do these people think there'll be complete silence in the new Casement?

The issue I raised was about the Logic of putting a Provinicial GAA Stadium, which will primarily be used for Provincial GAA matches ( Meaning the crowds will come mainly from the 9 counties of Ulster ) in the extreme east of the province.

The money is coming from England, on the condition the money goes into a GAA stadium in Belfast City. Which we might assume is purely to prop up a Rugby World cup bid in Ireland.

What the GAA seem to have missed, Is that they would get the money regardless of where the Stadium is located within Northern Ireland if they were a bit more ballsy.
If they GAA refused to develope Casement park, the NI tresury would find themselves in a delicate position of withdrawing funding from the GAA, while still funding Windsor Park Stadium redevelopment ( Soccer ) and Ravenhill Stadium redevelopment ( Rugby ). This would highlight the political nature of the funding, as probably force them to fund a GAA Stadium in a more logical location.

I don't have any other Issue with Casement Park development, other than extra unecessary travel. To flip the coin, how about we build Ulster's new Stadium in Dungloe, Co Donegal?
I'd settle for the money being split in half, and develop both Casement park and a additional Western stadium. I'm sure £30million per Stadium would build a fine ground.

1400452 I am not going to argue that the A5 won't go ahead but it won't be today or tomorrow and has been shelved at the moment and the funds redirected to 'more pressing' projects. I did a wee search there out of curiosity Gary to see what the travel time from Strand Rd (just to pick a point on the West side of Derry) to Clones and then from same destination to Casement and the difference is Casement is 22 minutes closer. Maybe you just drive quicker to Clones than Belfast as you like it better? ;-)

Maybe you should drive it, rather than route planning it. Most Buncrana rd, Derry City to Clones route planning websites are via Monaghan, and make the Journey around 2 hours long.

Derry to Omagh takes 40-45 minutes,
Omagh to Clones ( Via Fintona and Fivemiletown ) takes roughly another 40-45 minutes. And lands us at St Tiernan's park side of the town, without having to travel through Clones town centre.
1 hour 30mins is my average travel time in recent years, altho Sunday evenings are slower coming home between Omagh and Derry.

Gary - now you probably know that I am not going to go and drive both routes just to prove/disprove a point. I agree that the times on route planners are always a bit longer than the actual time it takes but this is why I used the same route planner with the same starting destination in the matter of fairness. However, on reflection I think I saw google map directions at Casement sporting a saffron top so it was probably siding with my argument and returning a shorter travel time.
