Competition: choose the greatest football team ever

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

My six forwards would be footballers who could play anywhere in the top six positions. Players such as, Peter Canavan, Johnny Doyle, Pat Spillane, Mikey Sheehy, Alan Brogan, Mattie Forde, Colm Cooper, Ciaran McDonald, Trevor Giles, Ger Power, Declan Browne, Steven O Neill, Padraig Joyce and probably a few others besides. Admin, in my opinion, allowing people to pick their top six, would have been a better way to guarantee the best players were chosen.

Love him or hate him as a pundit, but no one can deny that he was the greatest number 12 to ever grace Croker: 8 All Irelands, 12 Munsters, 4 National Leagues, All Ireland Club, 2 international Rules in a career that spanned from 1974 to 1991. The number of times this man kicked crucial scores at key stages in games or turned games on their head is unreal, that and his several Man of the match awards in all Ireland finals, he just knew when to perform. A Class One off footballer.

Pat Spillane

Lads some of the McDonald stuff is laughable. Stick to the thread instead of trying to find fault.

seanie sense you obviously never seen much football if you think that trevor giles was only a free taker. ciaran mcdonald only popped up with a nod good performance like the one against dublin in 06 but wouldnt be near consistent enough to be considered in the top 6 greg blaney was a class act as is declan o sullivan even though gooch is playing there now, also brian mcguigan excellent footballer but im going to be unashamedly bias and say trevor giles

clondalkindub im not arguing he wasnt overrated he probably was, but he was considerd legendary before he was dropped, if u disagree you obviously didnt spend much time in Mayo in the early 2000s

Look we have a dead heat for the centre half forward spot between Trevor Giles and Ciaran McDonald, two brilliant footballers.

Notice some recent votes for Trevor this morning but in the interest of fairness I am going to ignore these. Closing time for each position, except at weekends, is 10pm each evening.

Sometimes we allowed voters aboard the following morning but in those situations the eventual winner was a foregone conclusion.

So there you have it, we are going to share the number 11 shirt between Ciaran McDonald and Trevor Giles.

And please remember voting for the left half forward spot finishes at 10pm this evening. If you want to start voting for the number 13 jersey first thing tomorrow morning and before we have taken a count on the previous days activity feel free to do so. Hope this clears up matters.

God bless peoples wit if they have voted Ciaran McDonald as the best ever CHF, Trevor Giles was at least a very good footballer who produced on a very consistent basis for Meath. However, neither player were a patch on my selection, Matt Connor, but I suppose there are a lot of younger people on this Forum so we have to accept and respect their views. Worse selection so far IMO!
