Dublin v Kildare

Interesting piece by Johnny Doyle in the Indo, and he puts to bed the idea that playing against Dublin in Croke Park is a major disadvantage; " People have been talking this week about the advantage Croke Park gives Dublin teams, but the debate doesn't entirely interest him. "When you go out on the field, there's no great difference. Maybe a bit more noise, but that's about it.

"You're not thinking about how many lads are behind you on the Hill or what the crowd is like. I certainly don't feel any extra pressure trying to shoot into the Hill-end. You don't strike the ball any different because there's lads roaring at you.

"The goals are the same size, the grass is still green, the ball is still only a football. It's gas. You kick a ball wide against Dublin in Croke Park and people will say 'He's not able for the pressure...' But there's a good chance you could be playing a challenge match in Allenwood and you'd kick the same ball wide.

"And there's no pressure there..." A legend of a man, and heres hoping he nails many over the bar...... Really looking forward to it. Should be 2 good games and best of luck to all. Lets enjoy it, they are a unique part of being Irish and, well after all the doom and gloom we have all endured, its great to see the excitement and passion our games bring out in us.

Hopefully it's a close game and the Leinster championship continues to be close in future. The years when Dublin walked Leinster did us no good in the AI so I'm hoping Leinster stays competitive. Kildare have some outstanding young players ( Kelly in particular has massive potential from what I've seen ) and a solid base around their youth. Wexford have a strong team as well and Meath are ( supposedly ) on the way back. Louth are still competing and Westmeath could be on the way back aswell. The last thing we want to see is Leinster turn into what Connacht is right now but I'm hopeful it won't.

On the game, I reckon Kildare will put in a big performance and it will be tight for the most part, Dublin should have too much though. Kildare need a good start, if Dublin pull away early on I think Kildare will struggle. Any news on the Dublin team?

I think this game will be very very close.

What exactly is a manufactured team Thegrounds?

Were Donegal not "manufactured" given that the raw materials from 2009 are by and large the same ones being used today?

Kildare are just doing what every other county should be doing : getting the very best out of whatever god-given talent is available to them.

Carlow could do with a bit of manufacturing themselves perhaps?

Hard to see past Dublin in this one.

But by no means will this match determine Kildare's year or indeed McGeeney's tenure as manager. Can't understand the rationale behind anybody labelling this as a must win or last chance game for us.

Reckon there'll be at least one change to our side, hard to imagine O'Neill, Smith or Hurley not being involved from the start, could certainly do with Smith in the full forward line anyways.

As for tactics we can't afford to be anywhere near as naive as we were in the league.

If we go man to man then it's going to come down to a shootout and it's hard to see Dublin being outscored by any set of forwards in the country let alone ours. If we go a bit more defensive when we need to, and break at pace, then there's a chance an upset may be on the cards. High ball into O'Connor won't work so that's where Smith or Hurley might come into things, pull Hurley out into the middle and if O'Carroll goes with him it opens things up at the back and creates that bit more space for Cribbin and Kelly to run into, if O'Carroll stays back then Brennan might push up again leaving a bit more room at the back, this time in front of the full back line so possession around the middle will become even more crucial.

Allow Cluxton to take short kickouts and let the Dubs come at us from their own half back line like in the league then they could run right through us and run up a cricket score again. If we force them to kick long into midfield then there's a chance that both Flynn's could do a decent job of winning ball or at least breaking it down.

Realistically it's going to take a lot of things going our way if we're to win this one. A few of the Dubs having an off day coupled with our forwards doing what they rarely do and making the most of their chances.

Hopefully though our young lads can put in a good performance, ultimately though all that will do is more than likely set us up nicely for a decent run in the qualifiers depending on the right draw.

If Dublin don't win this by seven or eight then come Monday morning I think I'll be lumping on Donegal for the All Ireland.

Hoping for a positive result. If our heads are in the right place i think we will shade it but i expect a very tough, close championship battle! Up The Dubs!

Might not have much to do with it but then it could. Best of luck to all today. Not sure who I'll shout for as i hold both counties in the same regard.
but sure we'll see which supporters are urging on this new exciting era for the royals.
Good luck and may the best team win.
