Dublin v Kildare

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Well it's fair to say McGeeney has been found wanting in that regard against Dublin before. In 2011 we played a load of long ball early to test Dublin's inexperienced full-back line but they ate it all up, Johnny Doyle was instructed to position himself deeply to run at the Dublin backs but he found himself being bypassed and worst of all Sean Hurley was given his debut down in front of the hill and promptly taken back off, a move which by all accounts resulted with the player being issued an apology by the management. I think the hope is that Ryan has influenced McGeeney enough to come up with something new. I'll defend McGeeney on most things but sadly tactically all he has shown is he has a lot to learn, he could not be compared to McCartan just yet.

I think we have been found out tactically by the better teams. It's a weakness on McGeeney's behalf which surprises me. I hope JR can make a difference but I wouldn't hold my breath. I think if its close in the last 10 mins tactics will go out the window and whoever wants it more will win.

Moyles and Parkinson on OTB, both reckon Kildare won't get within the 4 point spread!

This is goin to be a tight game! Kildare aren't as bad as they looked against the dubs in the league, if Dublin only won by a point that day would they still be seen as such overwhelming favorites?? I don't think so! No disrespect but Westhmeath never gave them a game and made it easy for them. Obviously Dublin are a serious side loads of pace loads, accuracy up front and options on the bench but Kildare should and will have the homework done for Sunday! Its 15 on 15 Sunday and its there for Kildare if they want it bad enough! Kildare to win by 3 and silence all the critic's! Come on the lillys!!

Kildare are average. Dublin will win this very comfortably

Think the lack of expectation on Kildare will do them the world of good. They are a solid team and if things go right, i.e. the long range kicking they could well give Dublin a good game. I hope they do. Think it's going to be a lot closer than most think like Down/Donegal last week - I would have thought the margin between those two teams was more than that between Dublin/Kildare.

Dublin will want to improve on the Westmeath performace was was very ragged at times

Although we've breezed through Leinster for several years now playing like that... the standard is quite poor.

Kildare have everything to prove... this is Geezers last shot at the Dubs

So I would say Kildare will put in a big performace

Sure they've been probably hyping themselves up all year for this one once the draw was made

This is a very different Dublin team... Not sure how useful Ryan will be... he knew Gilroy's Dubs very well

Semi-finals are for winning... lets see who can manage it.

No contest here really, Dubs far too much firepower.

Won't be Geezers last chance at dublin. He'll be around for another couple of years yet!

Looking forward to the game, it will give us a great chance to see how fit we are for the qualifiers..

Kildare team for Sunday:
Donnellan
P.Kelly
Foley
Mcgrillen
Callaghan
M.O'Flaherty
E.Bolton
Daryl Flynn
Daniel Flynn
P.Cribben
N.Kelly
E.O'Flaherty
J.Doyle
T.O'Connor
P.Brophy

I expect and hope McGeeney changes that team on Sunday! Would like to see Smith and Johnston come in for O'Connor and Brophy in the full forward line

Not sure where you get that from - no pressure within Kildare on McGeeney, all a media hyped story. With 5 U21's starting on Sunday and more on the bench this is a transition year for Kildare - if we replicate last years performance (QF) that would do nicely.

Not sure which thread you're reading but very few Kildare people expecting us to win on Sunday - those going to Croker travelling more in hope than expectation. But we'll give it our best shot.

In my opinion, the future of the leinster GAA will be reflected in the result on sunday. If it is very one sided, and Dublin run away with it, then there will be a realization that there is just too big a gap between the smaller teams and Dublin. IT will probably break the spirit of Kildare, and they will prepare every year knowing that they are going to get beaten, (i am basing this on how badly they want to win on sunday and how hard they are training). Kildare by the way, would beat most teams in the country and this is not a slight on them. Should Kildare get the result, then it will be a most interesting championship. We will see, but I cant see beyond the Dubs and I hope it is a bit of a contest.

Hopefully it's a close game and the Leinster championship continues to be close in future. The years when Dublin walked Leinster did us no good in the AI so I'm hoping Leinster stays competitive. Kildare have some outstanding young players ( Kelly in particular has massive potential from what I've seen ) and a solid base around their youth. Wexford have a strong team as well and Meath are ( supposedly ) on the way back. Louth are still competing and Westmeath could be on the way back aswell. The last thing we want to see is Leinster turn into what Connacht is right now but I'm hopeful it won't.

On the game, I reckon Kildare will put in a big performance and it will be tight for the most part, Dublin should have too much though. Kildare need a good start, if Dublin pull away early on I think Kildare will struggle. Any news on the Dublin team?
