Dublin v Kildare

Well that tactic primarily backfired in the league because of the conditions I thought. It seemed like we had a plan in mind and even though when we turned up on the day and saw it was a gale force wind the management didn't feel the need to change it any. On another day I think it would've kept the game a lot tighter. Kildare didn't attack at all with the wind and then couldn't secure posession or get out of our half against it. It'll be a very different midfield this time and the Under-21's will carry the ball a lot better.

Bottom line is Kildare play a counter attacking game and it's hard to see them change from that although the way Dublin pile forward in waves it mightn't be the greatest plan. I really feel we need to push up and take the game to Dublin similar to what Mayo did last year to have a chance and the forwards won't struggle with that but the backs may end up badly exposed. That said with Lyons and Eoin Doyle out we could end up with a half-back line of Bolton, Callaghan and Cribben and if that is the case we'll be setup to attack anyway. In that setup we'll probably either win or get hammered.

Tyrone blanket D in League Final.....

Wexford always play it against us and always do well.

We've seen it all before!

Tyrone in the league final? Wexford??? You are having me on. That is not even handkerchief let alone a blanket compared to what Donegal will do if they meet Dublin in Sept.

--------
That's so true MR no comparison at all. Although I have to say that Kildare got it spot on against us in the O'Byrne Cup Final at Parnell and kicked some great long range points McFadden style. We destroyed them in Croker when they tried it again though. That's the challenge I think. It's one thing deploying the blanket defence on a small enough pitch it's another doing it on the wide open plains of Croke Park against a team with ace marksmen. Dublin have a lot more firepower now than in 2011 but Donegal have perfected the system and have a decent inside forward line themselves.

lads i can't see anything but a dublin win here,I am not sure about mcgeeney great player and all but I don't think he's the best of managers ,has he taken kildare forward???I think hes just not good enough and he should have left this post last year, they struggled past a division 4 team.

Thats the first I've heard of that to be honest Clondalkindub. Hopefully not...who comes in if true? Kev Mac and O'Gara or Costello?

Definitely not Costello, he is just too young. If (and its a big if) neither can start we will probably move Connolly inside and play Cullen on the 40 and Kev Mac or Dean Rock will come in as well.

Are you serious about him not taking Kildare forward? Have a look at our record in the championship and qualifiers from 2004 to 2007 and see how bad we were. We were at our lowest level in 07 since before Micko took over in 1990 and he raised us up to a top 6 side for the last few years. Last year we definitely went backwards but he has rejuvenated the squad and we comfortably retained Div 1 status this year. Tactically he can be suspect but he will leave Kildare a lot stronger than he found it. If you judge a tema on AI sucess only then 31 managers fail every year!

Jeez Caislean, yeah I was forgetting about Rock there for a second. Well he would definitely come in along with Kev Mac so with Connolly moving up if we are missing anyone( don't think its true though)

The perception that Kildare struggled past Offaly is not the true picture of the game. Kildare dominated for 3/4 of the match, were eight points up less than 10 mins remaining but did concede 1-2 to Offaly in the final minutes but were never in danger of losing.

Lilywhite1 that is true Kildare were never in trouble of losing that game but Kildare were not impressive in that game either just like Dublin weren't impressive against Westmeath. I don't think too many Kildare supporters leaving Croker that day would have been very happy with there performance.

I wasnt overjoyed coming out of Croke Park but at the same time I was Happy with how the under 21's played and the half forward line scored 12 from play also think if Kildare hammered Offaly there would be that little bit more expecation but the performance has helped us come in under the radar coming into nicely in fact. all the expectation is on Dublin :)

No clondalkindub I wsn't over enthused about the last ten minutes. First round games can be difficult but a performance like that against Dublin will simply not be anywhere near good enough.

I was talking to one of the Dub players last week and he said no one could mark Costello in training .hes flying. I think if it came to the crunch Gavin would have no problem throwing him on.

There is a perception among kildare supporters that only for Dublin been so superior in leinster that they would have won leinster a few times under this current management. But facts are they have been beat in leinster by not only Dublin, but also meath, louth and wicklow . And no disrespect to any of those teams but they themselves have hardly been world beaters over the last number of years (my own included) handy enough runs through qualifiers IMO doesn't make you a great team. If kildare fail to win on Sunday, I think the stat that will shine through is ONE leinster final appearance in SIX years. If meath this average Division 3 team as yous keep calling us win on Sunday thats 3 final appearance in 4 years and on way to two of them beat dubs and kildare. For me kildare are underachievers in leinster and they fail to perform against the top 6/7 teams on a consistent basis actually apart from meath they really haven't beat anyone of note in championship. Nearly never bulled a cow.
