Dublin v Kildare

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Johnston got a start during the league. He had a chance to earn a starting spot for himself last day and didn't take it.

Is there a possibility of a JD, Hurley, Brophy FF line?

Has Brohy done enough to warrant a start? Johnston was One of Kildare's best players in the league.

Along with Johnny Doyle, Alan Smith has been one of our most consistent forwards in Croke Park.

I don't agree. He was good against Kerry but apart from that he didn't stand out at all. Brophy was very good in Mayo and against Tyrone in the semi final. He also did well for the first goal down in Cork and scored the second himself. I would play Smith and Doyle with Niall Kelly playing off them. Start Hurley or Flynn at wing forward to add a bit more physicality around midfield and move Cribbin into centre forward to run directly at the Dublin defence.

In fairness to Brophy he most nearly all balls that came into him the last day.

We're constantly being told that League and Championship are different animals. Besides he wasn't overly impressive in the last few league games.

And if you saw Brophy up in Castlebar you'd have no doubts about him. Best player on the field that day. I would agree he can still improve but I think that's the best thing about him. Has loads of ability and has earned a starting position for me.

Doublehop is right. Kildare forwards have had a label attached to them for a long time for not having enough "footballers". This has never really been the case. I think it's something that's just grown legs over the years because in Doyle, Johnston, Brophy, Smith, Kelly, Conway, Callaghan, O'Flaherty and Dowling, (Kavanagh when he was there), they have several top forwards.

Kildare have had goalkeeping issues. They've not a regular centre-back during McGeeney's reign and have had several issues with regard to midfielders being injuried and recently one leaving due to work commitments. McGeeney has never managed to address these problem positions.

I also think the pundits tend to ignore that Kildare suffered narrow defeats in 2010 and 2011 and maybe if key moments had gone their way in those defeats, history might view Kildare a little differently. Last year was a dip and despite a good League campaign we can't be sure they are back to their best form. Next Sunday will be informative. I'd like to see them do it because it's probably going to be McGeeney's last chance. And possbibly Johnny Doyle's too.

We have no direction home? I've always headed in a west, south-west direction from Croke Park and found my way back to Kildare.

I take it you're a relatively new poster on the forum.

Word of advice, don't be so positive about Kildare, it's for your own good lest you want to be accused of not really being from Meath...

Bob Dylan, obviously not a Kildare fan.

Johnston scored 5 points from play in the challenge game v Mayo recently also scored the goal v Dublin in the league. Hadnt he not a hamstring injury toward the end of the league? Would like to see him get a start and see how he gets on.

If anyone can do it its Kildare they've come close already and they have had enough exposure to the dubs now to know how to do it. But knowing and doing are too different things.

Must be the only neutral that has a feeling Kildare will win this.
