Dublin v Kildare

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Dublin by at least 6 pulling up. Kildare have been in this position so many times and flopped big time; they don't have the players or temperament to win these games.

Hopefully we see both teams at their best because that way I can see this being a close game. Kildare won't fear Dublin, we took them apart in the league but they beat us in the O'Byrne cup and the games between us have been to the wire the last few years. Kildare having a solid div 1 campaign helps as well so it should be enjoyable but I reckon it should be Dublin by 4 or 5 points in the end.

One or two point win will do me...

Mind you, if Kildare win, and they just might, it will be interesting to see if they can put their 'bogey' team to the sword, providing they make it to the final themselves, which is also far from assured!

Ah here realdub. You are playing the 'talking the Dubs down' card a bit too much.

Ah what a load of sh*te. Temperment my backside. Like in every tight encounter where one side is a slight underdog, they just need a bit of luck to go their way. A bad day ot the office for dublin, a lucky goal, a bad refereeing call, that could swing it. You need a bit of luck along the way to win sam, most teams in recent memory got that. Donegal had several slices of it last year, dublin had a big one the year before. Would their temperment be suspect if those things hadnt happened?

good post The Master-you're right in general but kildare forwards do have some composure issues when it comes to the really big games, but you need really class forwards to deliver in these circumstances and i think it is more about ability than temperment sometimes. We don't have enough quality up front, john doyle still our best forward. Its about delivering on the day when the pressure is truly on, we seem to come up a little short. Not way short, just a little, but in a game of inches, little doesn't cut it. We need the class of someone like stephen o neill. You need these players to turn tight games into victories, other wise you become like us, a team who plays their part in some great games but does not win them. I'd happily take a 3-2 victory over dublin in the worst game of all time!!!

Composure is just another word for not good enough! How many what we would term excellent forwards lack composure? I honestly think we are a better footballing side than Kildare but the vast majority of Dubs i know expect this to be a real battle. If Dublin play to their optimum then i expect us to win with a few to spare but this match will be more than a contest.

Hey sedico, if you look back over my posts you'll find nothing less than positives being directed at your county, I fear them a lot more than Meath that's for sure!

true enough, just another word for not good enough! I can't object!

Composure is different to not being good enough. A bit of confidence can settle composure, if you are not good enough then no amount of confidence can change that.

Don't agree. That term 'composure' is tossed around like many other terms like confetti when games are analysed. In my view you don't win the biggest prizes without big game players. Players who in the heat of battle, when it ultimately matters most can take the scores, do the defending and work that is required to win games. My own county lacked such players for years, it wasn't a confidence issue, it wasn't a composure issue, it wasn't the weather, it wasn't what they ate for breakfast, it was simply that on the biggest stage time and time again there were found not to be good enough. The same applies to many other teams. Sport is cruel as the winner takes absolutely everything, and in certain teams you can see which ones have the necessary qualities to win the biggest games. Donegal have them, Cork have them, Kerry have them, Mayo have them and Dublin have them. Tyrone may have them. Outside of that everyone else is left looking for words to describe why the rest are not good enough!

I fear for us here. We're a decent team and can hold our own in the league. Come championship though I think we will struggle against the best teams in the business. It'll be tight and hopefully we can pull off a major shock. Heart says Kildare by 1. Head says Dubs by 5-6.

Dublin by 6+ points. Don't think Kildare are anywhere near this level. Dublin won't have to peak until Q -final or Semi final, similar to Mayo but not as big a gulf with the rest of the province.

One thing at least is that these two games will be a example of how football should be played. Cant see anyone of 4 counties employ blanket defense. It will be a good day for football in leinster.

Dublin have a blanket defense, but are able to quickly change it to attack. Donegal couldnt do it in 2011 but got it bang on last year.

will likely pan out as expected with dublin's forwards being the difference by 4-6 points, won't define our season as we hardly ever beat the dubs but it will be interesting to see if we can take a big team, any big team in the qualifiers.

Dublin's last 3 outings havent been great

Should have been beaten by Donegal

League Final against Tyrone was IMO our worst performance in the league

Westmeath game was very poor... sloppy passing, greedy at times, poor shot selection, some of our young lads didnt perform

So I'm looking to see an improvemnet...

It's over due at this stage... but what do you expect with so many new players

The fact that we're such strong favourites is daft... dont believe the hype lads..

This Dublin team is only in it's infant stage... they are there to be beaten

What a statement it would be if Kildare win this one and i think they can win it. So much hype on the dubs but we all know that when they don't get things their way they choke a bit. 1-15 to 0-14 kildare win.
