JimmyTheCar Couldn't care less as everyone know's it ain't going change any time soon so may as well get over it,
That is probably true. However, why not give the visiting team a sizeable chunk of the extra money being generated as a counter-balance? I mean it is them that is being put out after all, surely this would be a fair middle ground, and it would help them develop? At present, nobody knows where it is going.

1389827 There huge haul of national titles over the last 23/30 years clearly shows how big of an advantage it is to them...
Finally someone with a bit of sense. Well said.

Not the Dubs fault alright. But it clearly is an advantage for them. Whether they make use of it or not is another story. Still it makes for a great occasion watching dublin in croker.

I don't mind games being played in Croker but when it comes to the playoff stages I personally think that the team the wins their provincial title should be given the OPTION of playing their Q/F tie on home soil provided they have the facilities to host the game. If the county doesn't have the facilities then I'm not opposed to the game being played in the capital. If a situation where to present itself where Dublin were to come through the back door to the Q/F stage, their opponents who would be a provincial champion are the ones playing at a disadvantage. It could hardly be considered fair if you have provincial champion teams like Tyrone, Donegal, Kerry, Cork and Mayo playing in the back yard of a team that comes through the back door when they themselves have facilities capable of hosting a Q/F match. I personally enjoy the trip to Croker at every opportunity but for a lot of people there is financial aspect which people from Dublin don't ever have to contend with. Furthermore for teams like Kerry who have genuine ambitions of playing in Croker every Sunday in September they often don't bother travelling to the capital for Q/F matches resulting in a sterile atmosphere which would not be felt given the opportunity to play the match on home soil. People can say that it's about money, but in all honesty if Q/F attendances in recent years are anything to go by, I fail to see where this financial windfall is coming from. Obviously the Semis and Final to be played at HQ.

Everyone knows its a big advantage and none of the Dublin players would deny it, but who cares. Some teams will get intimidated by a big day out in Croker and other teams will get a boost from the sense of occasion. When should Dublin start playing in Croker, the All-Ireland final whenever they make it?!

Good point and one that has been mooted before on here. I think in 2001, the first year of the qualifiers, the quarter finals were played in provincial venues but since then it has been Croke Park for all of them.
As far as I know the quarter finals cannot be moved from Croke Park because the premium and corporate seats are sold on the basis of all football quarter finals being held there.
As for ourselves, as it stands the way in which the Leinster Football Championship and All-Ireland series are scheduled means that the only games we could be drawn away in are the first round of Leinster and the quarter-finals. This is the same for all Leinster counties. Seeing as we usually make the Leinster semis at least that means we are not in the draw for the first round. This means in most years the Dublin footballers can only be drawn away from home in the Leinster quarter final.
Some years we've been drawn away and the opposition has decided to switch the game to Croke Park for financial reasons. The last time a county used their home advantage was in 2006 when we went to Longford.
The years in which we entered the qualifiers we've travelled whenever we drawn away with the exception of 2010 in which the games against Tipperary, Armagh and Louth were played in Croke Park.

I see what you are saying, but strictly speaking it isnt really right. Like you say, some teams might get intimidated and lose, but all things being equal that wouldnt have happened because they wouldnt have been in that position. It is like the one where a team is playing badly, and then loses to a dodgey goal. People say 'ah sure they didnt deserve to win', but in reality that doesnt matter, they should have won, deserving or not.

It would be nice to see the provincial winner given home advantage alright if they want it....imagine a 1/4 final in a packed Castlebar( has actually happened twice with Mayo not involved), Killarney, Clones. Having said that if you ask James Horan, Eamon Fitz, Jim Mc etc where they would want to play a quarter they would go for croke park I would imagine.
Croke Park is not Dunblin's ground - it belongs to all GAA counties and if anything team raise their game against Dublin there.

When was the last time Dublin played a championship match outside of Croker? Being honest I think it would be nice to see Dublin travel to Westmeath and i'm sure there is some Dubs on here that will agree with me. The only games that should be played in Croker are: Leinster semi finals Football and Hurling double headers. Leinster finals hurling and football along with the Minors. All Ireland semi finals huring and football along with Minors and Same for the All Ireland finals.

1389856 Jesus Christ how many times a year does this come up ?
Yes it is an advantage and an unfair one to Dublin .. Yes the money Dublin fans generate dictates this, Yes us Dublin fans would like a trip of two in the summer. ....
What more do you want us or anybody else to say ? We cant do or say any more, Money dictates and that's the bottom line .. Get over it.
Admin should be doing more to stop the same threads being created on issues like this year in year out .. It's getting beyond a joke.
The Dublin hurlers had to play Clare away last year and there was a thread started by Dubs on here complaining about the fact they had to travel

You know, just once, it would be great if you would address an issue about dublin on its merits and not look for some way to discredit anyone you take umbridge with.

Its for health and safety reasons. The last time Dublin were allowed to play outside Croke Park, someone required a tetanus shot :-)

Yeah its a huge advantage if i'm being honest! When i look back and see the huge amount of All Irelands we've won over last 30 years you can't help but feel Croker is making a difference!

I admire the Mayo lads ambition to try get a game in there massive empty stadium down there such a waste of resources almost Leeds Utd stuff, least your lads kept their feet on the ground this year down in Bellmullet instead of jet setting around the world for training camps when your CB is in the red. Why don't we move Croker to the Isle Of Man so it's a neutral venue?

I love playing Dublin in Croker, it's hard to beat the atmosphere even if it is a 'dead rivalry' with ourselves. I know it's an advantage for Dublin to a certain extent but when they come up against a county who've beaten them in Croker a couple of times the odds are even as far as I'm concerned.
Anyway look if any of us chasing pack are good enough to beat them in the early stages of Leinster then chances are they will have a few games abroad, so no excuses.

what do you want it discussed really?or is it an opportunity for yourself and moomoo to throw in the usual jibes. If Dublin were to play westmeath away this year in portlaois ,not one Dub on here would complain. if we were in qualifiers and had to go to down to a stadium in Munster to play not one Dub on here would complain. We lose out also in not getting to travel, Have we an advantage playing WESTMEATH in croker id say yes , but theres nothing we can do about it.id rather it be in portlaois. Have we an advantage in a leinster final or semi final of an allireland maybe yes maybe no depends who your playing and what way they use the occasion.
