http://www.hoganstand.com/ArticleForm.aspx?ID=192914,seen this article on the home page and i'd have to agree with Sean,it is a massive advantage for Dublin to have so many home games, would it really be so hard to make them play the odd championship game somehwere else?

All about money. Money is more important then fairness.

Interestingly I saw this article about the Dubs on the main page and thought it much more important.

Dubs to sport suicide prevention logo on jerseys

Fair play to Carlow for doing likewise too.

This crops up every year.

If I was managing the team playing Dublin I'd be saying to the players 'we are going to the coliseum now are you maximus or hippopotamus?'

Then we'd go out & bate the tripe out of Dublin* :-)

The Dubs get most games in Croker as they bring a big crowd. We all need to get over it.

* Maybe

Nah man... old news.. heard it all before... Maybe the news has only just reached Lonford or something?

What did the Leinster council say the other day... Bums on seats wasnt it?

I agree that it has it's pro's... no question.

But sure what can we do.... we dont get to pick where games are played

Leinster country lads do...

We all know Dublin have an unfair advantage, but repeating the topic on here is going to change nothing.

Personally

I'd love to see a new stadium built in Dublin which takes us out of Croke Park ubt still holds a decent crowd

40,000 Seater + Terrace

The Kevin Heffernan Stadium - nickname = The Heffo

Then we can leave Croke Park

Until that happens... we'll be playing in Croke Park

There huge haul of national titles over the last 23/30 years clearly shows how big of an advantage it is to them...

To be fair, you won't find too many Dubs disagreeing with this premise. It's certainly not unreasonable for other teams to have home advantage in championship games, should they be drawn out of the hat first. Also, there is a really good sense of occasion when the Dubs do have to travel (Longford '06, Thurles '01, etc.), which I think is reflected in the mood of the travelling support and also leads to a greater volume of support within the away ground (whether this is down to the more dedicated and / or vocal fans being the more likely to travel is up for speculation).

However, as walkinglunchbox rightly stated, it's about the cash draw that Dublin and Croke park brings and if Dublin were to be drawn against, for example, Wicklow, Louth or Kildare etc. with the limited capacity of their home venues, then the GAA would see this as a serious opportunity for revenue lost. A few years ago, the GAA made an annual profit of €21m - €20.5m of which was generated by activities in Croke park. If you take out the All-Ireland finals, maybe semi-finals and any big concerts that may have been on, then it seems obvious that a large percentage of the GAA's revenue is generated by "home" games for Dublin.

The other "solution" would be to increase the capacity of venues outside Dublin but this is i) cost prohibitive in the current (or any) economic climate and ii) would create a series of white elephants whereby these grounds are only generally filled on the odd occasion that the Dubs come to town and the atmosphere within these grounds would invariably suffer, as a result. How often do you see games held in, for example, the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick where there only seems to be a fraction of the capacity present and you can hear individual shouts for the ball / sliotar?

Unfortunately, it's a no-brainer at the minute. Personally, I try and follow the hurlers too for the "away buzz" and will be in Wexford on the 8th. Looking forward to that as much as the 1st.

Couldn't care less as everyone know's it ain't going change any time soon so may as well get over it, but when is the last time Dublin played a home match in Parnell Park?

A few years ago the Dubs played Longford in the 1st round of the championship in Pearse Park & it really was a novel & memorable occasion for all.

It is undoubtedly an advantage. Not so much against the better teams who enjoy playing in Croke Park and have a good record there, but certainly against the likes of Westmeath and Wexford. Crowd doesn't really hold any water now with recession. Dublin/Westmeath on its own on a Saturday June bank holiday would get around 30,000. Mullingar would be packed and lots of Dubs would travel. So what's the problem?

Jesus Christ how many times a year does this come up ?

Yes it is an advantage and an unfair one to Dublin .. Yes the money Dublin fans generate dictates this, Yes us Dublin fans would like a trip of two in the summer. ....

What more do you want us or anybody else to say ? We cant do or say any more, Money dictates and that's the bottom line .. Get over it.

Admin should be doing more to stop the same threads being created on issues like this year in year out .. It's getting beyond a joke.

I thinks its great that they play there. they create a brilliant athmosphere and the fill Croke park which other counties cant really do. Its a great spcatacle to see 80000 blue dub supporters. They bring in huge revenue too so it has to be accepted. Until another county has a massive population boom and they have a million people livin in their county then we cant really complain about it. It shows the championship is getting into gear
