The Dublin panel and management will give Westmeath respect just like any other opponent, I think the chance of a shock is slim when you take into account this is a new Dublin management team and the panel is full of new additions can't see a stale performance. Shame Kev Mac is out he will be a loss as he is a game changer be it from the bench or starting. Can't see Westmeath being naive enough to create a shootout scenario on Saturday if they do I'm afraid there will only be one winner.

IMO Westmetah are a top 3 Leinster side... simple as that.

They deserve maximum respect and as can seen on this thread their supporters are looking forward to this game

They think they can trouble Dublin and as I stated previously

If Dublin are as flat as they were the last day out against Tyrone... this will be a hard aul game

Looking forward to it myself... may the best team win.

I'm confident we can do it... but this is not going to be easy

Jim,

You know as well as I do that Westmeath haven't a hope. Good side they may be, But Dublin are far superior. McManamon and Alan Brogan aside we've a full squad to choose from. The team wont be taking Westmeath lightly, That in itself is trouble for Westmeath. I haven't heard one Dublin player come out in the media except for the meet your heros night in Ballyboden. Dublin are just coming into it nicely, Anyone who genuinely believes Dublin will be beaten are playing little mind games, They wont be beaten end of. Cocky ? I don't think so, I just believe we are too far ahead in terms of quality. Dublin have a point to prove , a marker to lay down .. start as we mean to go on if you like, I cant see anything but a very very comfortable Dublin win.

Ah come on now Dubs - you are playing your chances down on here.

On your resident website you are talking about AI semi finals already.

Jimbodub, good post mate.To be honest yes we are really looking forward to this game and I know it may seem like madness to other counties but we genuinely believe we have a chance of causing an upset. In sport anything is possible, added to the fact that westmeath have a young energetic team that are pretty fearless right now. When you play without fear and have nothing to lose this can be a very dangerous asset to have ,everyone will be looking at Dublin and expecting them to trounce us,if it is tight going into the second half the pressure will mount on the dubs.We have nothing to lose and we love it,bring it on....hon westmeath

______________

Exactly.

For all the reason's you've mapped out - WM are a team on the up... and deserve maximum respect.

Listen even if the Dubs get on top and win this game... I can still see WM having a good year

Honetsly think you could push on and do well in the back door

You may still do mind... but if you're honest you've got the harder side in 2013

If you were on the other side of the draw I think you could have got to a Leinster Final...

Either way... whatever happens on Saturday

I can still see both counties having a good championship

We'd all love to see Westmeath advance, the whole country except for Dublin and the GAA itself of cource will be cheering on Westmeath.

They won't win however, Dublin are not going to get beaten by Westmeath even if they don't fire on all cylinders.

There's only one team in Leinster that Dublin could come a cropper to in Leinster and that team is Meath, even now with Meath deep down in the doldrums they'd still put it up to Dublin in Croke Park.

On the other hand I cant see Westmeath doing anything to inconvenience Dublin's Leinster title hopes, although they would beat Meath on Sunday if they were playing them of that I'd be very sure.

Dublin don't really need to win these games by 10-15 points but make no mistake they will do if the opportunity comes their way. Westmeath will have to take every opportunity that presents itself otherwise they could be on a real hiding to nothing in this game.

Dublin to win it very very easily I hate to say.

Not sure where Westmeath are coming into this game! Promotion from division 2 was a great achievement but it has been
dampened a little over the last two weeks when you looks at the championship performance of other division 2 teams like Galway, Armagh and Laois

If both side play well or better I think you're looking at a 5 point game to the Dubs, we just have to hope for a great performance and the Dubs to underperform to have a chance of causing an upset - looking forward to it, hope we can do ourselves justice

Sure the whole country din't give Westmeath a prayer in 2004 and look what happened? Teams can be caught out unexpectedly every now and again and this is one of those potential banannaskin games. Jim Gavin will give his respect to Westmeath with his team selection on Thursday evening showing that and Dublin will give it their all. I am confident of a win but I wouldn't say Westmeath haven't a hope...thats just my honest opinion.

Could of said the same last year before the Laois match, and that was a close call, same can be said of this match if we have a poor afternoon and Westmeath hit the ground running they could cause us trouble,
If we have any other ideas it could be a long afternoon.

Wayno I think Dublin will win easily myself but saying that Westmeath haven't got a hope is dangerous territory. They are a good side who can do damage and while it's unlikely you'll live to regret those words it's not impossible!

Westmeath are a top 8 side in my view , very good players in each line , Connaughton , Maguire , Gavin , Sharry , Heslin , Egan , McCormack , Glennon and Dolan are all class players and would make most teams , Dublin are in for a match

Westmeath are a fine football side who would be my tip as dark horses to go really well this year.

It could be a tight game but only if they really get in the faces of the Dublin players & give them no areas of comfort. While I can see them doing this for a lot of the game I can't see them managing it for 70 minutes & expect Dublin to win by 5 or 6 points.

Having said that if there was ever going to be a big upset in Leinster, this could be it if everything goes Westmeath's way.

Why odds could I get on Westmeath winning 14 points to 12?
