Galway v Mayo

Isnt it crazy one of the top teams in the Country will be out on Sunday evening. Ok they have the back door in a few weeks time. If they lose that game its all over for them until February 2014. Surely their has to be a better way?

See good old Conor back with a quote bang on cue.....I'm suprised no-ones interviewed McDonald about him making a comeback yet ;-)

On another note, does anyone see sense in our full forward line? I've seen Coen play a few times and was never overly impressed. Has he been playing well for Hollymount or for Mayo in challenge matches? Same goes for Freeman and to a lesser extent Varley.

Yep, I knew it wouldn't be long before Mortimer got his tuppence worth in.. Nice to hear the usual "I have no regrets", and "it's no big deal, it's time to forget about it" cliches thrown in.. I'd say he's travelling to Salthill on Sunday with a gear bag in tow, just incase, like....

1384345 Mayo people coming to Galway will make a massive cultural difference in comparison to the usual crusty population that inhabits Galway City.

On a side note, an ex Galway intercounty player told told me last night that there is hugh expectation for Galway to give Mayo a hammering.

Paddyogall in response to your ignorant mail above, we Galwagians have always welcomed Mayo boggers like yourself to our fair city for employment and entertainment purposes that you don't have too much of up there north of the border. That is what makes our city so cosmopolitan and artistic as it welcomes all sorts even yourself!

pdempsey, I would be confident enough in varley to play well. He generally does quite well against teams outside the top 3-4. I would be most worried about freeman actually, as forde is a big strong presence as well as an excellent athlete. If he can win a couple of balls early on we could see the best of him, but if forde gets on top it could limit our play inside. Coen is a smart footballer who I believe will get better with better players around him, and he deserves his chance.

Re our ff line. Id pretty much agree with the masters post above. Varley should be able for Galway, although he nearly always seems to be more effective when been sprung from the bench.Freeman has not lived up to his debut season in 2010 but he must be pulling it off in trainning, if he's roughed up and beat to first few balls in he's likely to go into a shell and if the oppisite happens he could very well score a couple of goals. Coen is a good footballer and deserves a chanc with the injury list we have.

Mayo bound in the morning and really looking forward to it now.

Mayo mayo mayo mayo mayo mayo

tommy k - In fairness lad. if you read back paddy was responding to an earlier insulting comment about Mayo people from one of your own county men. As for lack of entertainment in Mayo....I don't agree with that but the best source will be the Sunday Game on Sunday night ;) Up Mayo

Seconded Yew_tree. Safe driving everyone (especially to our Mayo friends who must remember when driving home that crying may restrict their view of on-coming traffic).

Galway with home advantage and Mayo missing some of there best players gives Galway a big chance in this one IMO. Galway lads what numbers from the 21 team are involved or on the bench? Hopefully 13 from the Galway 21 team plays class act that kid. Best of luck to both teams it should be a great game.

I don't see it jimbo.
Mayo don't have the strength and depth in the panel to go through the backdoor. As with last year, once you take 1 or 2 players out of our forward line we are very limited up front. We have ample cover 1 - 9, but we lack quality forwards. For Mayo to come through the back door, we would need unbelievable luck not to pick up injuries. Horan knows this and he going to go all out to win Sunday. I do ya see the game going ?
