Very Poor performance and the team over the last few years have totally distanced themselves from the virtues that represent galway football. However i do think the management deserve a while longer to settle this team but they also have to go away and question their tactical approach towards teams and indeed concentrate on the basics. Similiar to what mayo do. They have no stars just average footballers who put everything in to every phase of possession

Bit harsh there. At least 2 or 3 players who would make any team in the country, so you could say we have a few stars.

Didnt mean any disrespect to the Mayo Players and they have alot of quality. I mean the talisman like Cooper a natural footballer. Galway should actually just copy the Mayo Blueprint. Which has worked brilliantly well

"just average footballers" think your being a bit bitter there, the likes of Keith Higgins, Aidan o Shea, cillian o Connor are more than just average footballers. They would make any team in Ireland.

Thought O Connor was outstanding today. He had 3 goal assists, kicked a heap of points, led the whole mayo forward line. He's already a double young player of the year, an outstanding talent who only turned 21 last week. He has a fantastic attitude and provided he stays injury free will be in that mayo team for the next 12 or 13 years. We look like we have a lot more strength in depth this year than other years, which is essential to be successful at the business end of the championship.

Mayo did what they needed to do and played with a good tempo but they haven't addressed their underlying issues from last years All-Ireland. Unless they do more heartache awaits later in the year.

Really from a Galway viewpoint it has to be up there with the lowest point in the county's history. I doubt if any Galway person in attendance has seen such a laughable, gutless performance.

Fair play to Mayo always knew they would win but i din't know Galway were going to be as poor they were today. So that three in row as good done for Mayo will this Galway side be able to win a game in the back door?

What are these "Underlying" issues, and how have they not addressed them?

Paddyogall,

Typical Mayo lad jumping on the bandwagon after today, Ye have problems which werent exposed today as ye were vastly superior in all aspects of the game today. Any other game ye play against any other team will be tougher than Galway, just bear then in mind.

All we have learned today is that Mayo have learned nothing about themselves, its hard to say if they have improved since last year or not.

First of all I agree we are not the finished article. We need Andy Moran fit for the year and we need Conroy back. If those 2 are playing together towards the end of the summer we will have a very good inside line. I still worry about Vaughan and Cafferky as well. However you cannot say we haven't addressed last years problems as you or i don't actually know that yet.

What are the underlying issues in Galway Football? Has the county any better players than those that were on display today i doubt sadly!!!

The reality for this Mayo team is it's Sam McGuire or bust, and we all know that! So days like today don't matter if we fail to achieve that goal in 2013. It's a long road ahead and stiffer tests will come that's for sure. Well done to James and the lads for getting the job done in such a professional manner against Galway.

The Flaker if you are worrying about Cafferky, you have little to be worrying about.

the match today highlighted the differance in divison one and divison two with mayo playing a far higher level of intensity and power and pace to galway.jim mcguinness might not be so happy next year if he finds that out.
all the talk of mayo having poor forwards is madness considering what they did in the all ireland semi final last year in the first half without andy moran they kicked some magnificent points that day and to still hear pundits say before todays game they lack forwards is madness i think that might finally be put to bed after clocking up another big score.
as gerry adams says "they havent gone away you know" and they may have lost last years final but if anything they have learned from it.
another good note i have to say was the refereeing in this and the cavan v armagh match I have to say dont like either ref normally but credit were credit is due I thaught they werent too fussy like we usualy see in the opening games on tv of the championship.

I don't think the result today is a fair reflection of were Galway or at and to where their future aspirations lay. Mulholland has done well at underage level and is only now inheriting the next batch of future stars. I was really impressed with Walsh today when he came off the bench. When those 2 U21 teams come to fruition, in the next 3-4 years Galway will once again be contenders. I'm not trying belittle Galway of big up Mayo, but he true facts of the matter are; Mayo are physically stronger, and play at a higher intensity, having played in Division 1. The team has been to the last four in the last 2 All Irelands and Division 1 Football League finals...
The Galway team we saw today featured many of the under 21 players which won the All Ireland just over a week ago. A great achievement for Galway and the west, but the standard between under 21 and Senior are light-years away in comparison.
The time Mulholland has had to prepare shouldn't be given consideration. Galway are in a period of transition, he can't make the players grow and develop any faster; that will come, but it will take some time. Galway must resist the urge for change and give him another season. I personally feel if Galway can string a few results together in the qualifiers, their fortunes will change dramatically in the next 24 months.
As for the Mayo result. I feel it was less impressive and more clinical. They did what they had to, when they needed to. I really hope they approach the next game against Roscommon with the same level of professionalism without thinking too far beyond that.
