(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Well I think its safe to say that Championship 2013 kicks off this weekend proper. What do people think the outcome of this one will be. Will it be a full house in Salthill????

I think this has the makings of a brilliant game. Mayo will probably have too much, I say Mayo by 5+

Interesting match, Mayo if I'm pushed but have a sneaking feeling for Galway!

Gaa lover, this tread is about the game this weekend Galway v Mayo and how people think its going to play out. The Connacht 2013 tread is not about one particular game, its a more general discussion of all Connacht teams.

Comfortable May win with Galway fading away in the second half. There's nothing to suggest that this team/manager have found any form following on the heels of a sputtering league campaign.

You wouldn't think the championship is starting Sunday. For once the gaa launch the championship with a big game but is hasn't been promoted at all. I think a very good game is on the cards.

They are very confident around the pubs of Galway city, they think they will win by 8+ points. That arrogance will come back to haunt Galway.

Sure the pubs in Galway are usually full of Mayo people.

Good lad paddy, 9/10 for effort but I don't know what pubs you've been to. Public confidence in our senior gaelic footballers is at a new low. Any of your kind that I've had the misfortune of talking to in the last few weeks are adamant that you will beat us easily enough on Sunday. I do agree with them, but thats not the point... Confidence I can deal with but the Mayomen thinking they're cock of the walk coming into Pearse Stadium this Sunday will be hard to look at, but it would be even funnier if they went home with "their tails between their legs".

GAA lover, 12-14 k at the most?
Do you think so, iwould of thought 18-20k .

We will have to see who's right Sunday .

What's your prediction for the game ? We have to keep this competition going for the months ahead.

I predict an absolute walk in the park for Mayo, win pulling up by ten plus.Galway ladeens to bounce off our midfield all day long.

Salthill and that swirling wind coming in from the Atlantic will be worth 3-5 points to Galway. On paper this game shouldn't be as close as it is going to be. Even if an under strength Mayo put in an 80% performance they "should" be marching on to a semi-final with Roscommon.
Im not saying Galway aren't without their chance. No matter how bad Galway's league has been they will "always" give a decent performance against Mayo in the championship. That been said Mayo have a better defense a better midfield, and an underrated forward line who have put 16 point past Dublin each time they played them in the league:(Without Andy Moran and Alan Dillon). Mayo are notoriously slow championship starters but should still leave Galway Sunday evening with a 3-4 point victory and plenty of room for improvement….
Mayo 1-12
Galway 1-08

There should be a healthy enough following from Mayo anyway at the game. A county board official told me the stand in salthill is sold out mainly due to the season tickets holders. If the day is fine many more will turn up.

Paddyogall did you have to buy your own beer when you trawled each and every pub in Galway city when conducting your comprehensive survey or were you funded ?

Mayo by 4-6 points. Should pull away in second half. Mayo best team in Connacht by a distance. They are operating at a different level and will smother Galway. I hope im wrong!
