Not taken by the media coverage of Cavan, fairly ordinary IMO. Monaghan with a bit more quality to win by 4.

I agree with jonno, monaghan should have too much.

Monaghan are desperate to put one over on Cavan and are seriously pumped up for this affair. They've been knocking on the door for years and will fancy their chances against a young inexperienced Cavan team. If there is one way to get a Monaghan man going it's to put a Cavan jersey in front of him. Very chippy people - Cavan by 5

Hopefully another good game this evening between Cavan and Monaghan, bar watching Kildare - Offaly the Ulster championship has certainly made for the best viewing so far this year, it really has had everything.

Great fielding in the middle, with some super points kicked in the Cavan - Fermanagh match which was close throught, great attacking displays by Cavan against Armagh and Down against Derry, while Donegal have put in some excellent displays both on an individual level (McFadden) and as a team / unit, there's been really interesting tactical battles too which have made for some very interesting viewing.

Cavan don't appear to be missing McKiernan too much, but I think Monaghan will have better firepower than anything they've faced so far, hard to know what way the game will go but it should make for another entertaining match at least.

Hopefully BBC are showing it, watching the last few Ulster matches on it and it really puts RTÉ to shame. Actual analysis and discussion before, during and after, looking at what changes could be made and why etc, with interviews with former players and managers and nobody trying to peddle an agenda or increase the newspaper readership. Slightly monotone at times but at least with the likes of McConville and Mulligan you get a good insight into things from a relatively current players point of view too.

Thank goodness BBC 2 are showing the game and we will have decent analysis on what actually is going on instead of the stereotypical RTE stuff. it will be another close, hard contest which is the way football should be played. The naysayers and doom merchants will NEVER have a good word to say about Ulster football but that is their problem.

The joys of a derby! . . This a post I put on another forum (soccer), about the upcoming Mn v Cn game.

Roll on Sat.!.... it may not be "eyecatching" or indeed pretty to the "outsider", . . . but probably the oldest GAA rivalary takes place, when my home County (Monaghan) take on Cavan in the Ulster SFC semi-final. Both these teams had contested Ulster finals against each other, when Charles Stewart Parnell was still alive!... They were rivals long before the Titanic was launched!eyecatching

Unfortunately, to my dismay, I cannot get off work to attend, but I will be on my "stool " in my Local :angel:, to watch the big event on TV. A crowd of up to 30,000 is expected. The atmosphere for this particular game is always unreal, just sorry to miss it.

Com'n the FARNEY boys, DON'T let me down!

Whats the most consecutive games won by a team in Ulster championship?

Cavan won 7 consectutive Ulster titles between 1931 and 1937, and 7 Ulster titles again between 1939 and 1945, which I would assume meant they played and won at the very least 21 games on the trot.

Antrim between 1908 and 1913 won 6 Ulster titles, which by modern championship format would suggest they played at least 18 matches.

A clear peno denied for Monaghan, not sure what the ref was at. Hopefully this match picks up a bit.

First ten minutes were atrocious, but very enjoyable stuff since. Cavan definitely got away with the knock off the line

Generally speaking, it ain't great, but there have been some fantastic long range scores from Cavan and some goal chances for Monaghan so it hasn't been that bad.

I tried to be positive but that 2nd half was absolute tripe. Tell about how competitive it was all you like, a passionate, competitive game isn't enjoyable when it is low scoring, scrappy and teams try to stop the opposition rather than outscore them. Some of the off the balls in the 2nd half didn't help. I predict a similarly played final.

Jim won't be too worried after watching that, I'd say he'll be thinking of putting out his second team!!

Apart from the start of each half, I thoroughly enjoyed that game. Some great scores taken by both sides. Aside from the goal-line clearance, I think Cavan can feel a little hard done by with the amount of decisions that went against them, particularly in the last ten minutes.

May the better team win in the final (which is Donegal :-))

I enjoyed it myself. It aint pretty but its competitive and close and it beats watching kerry stroll to all Irelands like they did in 04,06,07.

Donegal will beat Monaghan pulling up. I really hope Monaghan can keep it competitive for the spectacle, but I just can't see it.
