Christy Ring Cup 2013

If Kildare had scored their penalty in the 1st half it might have made a difference but well done the Kingdom. Sounds like anyone who wasn't in Trim today missed a thriller! 1-25 to 2-22 AET. Sure what more could you ask for? Probably far better entertainment that the Champions League final tonight...

The Kerry posters here are obviously gone to the pub! lol Well done also to Roscommon & Donegal who will now meet in the Nicky Rackard final.

It wasn't Kerry's best display and Kildare were wasteful. Decent crowd at the game. Great to be back in another Ring final. All we can continue to do is play well at our level and we've been consistent enough at that over recent years.
Meath have been going well all year. Down are having a good championship. Their best in a while. It's going to be a tough final for Kerry against either of the sides that come through.

cant understand why they don't show any footage from any of the games on The Sunday Game, its alright to show highlights from first round Leinster Championship games with the likes of Carlow and Westmeath playing in them.

RTE having the wrong scoreline for the Kerry game on their website on Saturday says it all really.

Maybe their trying if we don't report on it the competitions might go away approach.

I think the competition will get a bit more focus when the relegation/promotion play-off comes in. Intermediate and Junior club championships provincial and All-Ireland championships don't get covered much either.

I hope Meath can make the final. Does anyone know if it will be shown live on TV?

A 2 minute clip will be shown of all finals on the Sunday Game the day after. That's 2 minutes for all three finals.

Can Down fans maybe shed some light as to why the replay is in Ballycran (more than 2 hours from Navan) instead of Newry where all of Down's league and Christy Ring home games have been played this year? Seems unnecessarily awkward for players and fans.

Royal fan its the same distance for ye as it was for the Down players and supporters who travelled last weekend passing Navan en route to Trim.
You will enjoy the scenery in Co Down and receive a hearty welcome in the heartland of Down hurling where a big support is expected.
Hope its as good as the match last week and may the best team win

Congrats to Down on winning the replay today. They've been perennial underachievers since this competition's inception but now they're back in the final for the 1st time since 2009. Let's see can they go the whole way now!

Commiserations to Meath who've had quite a positive season, in fairness. Hopefully in 2014 they can make further progress.

How much of an effect did the sendings off have, were they deserved? I'm looking forward to the final, hopefully it'll get some decent coverage. Was there much of a crowd at todays game?

Down have had their best Ring Championship since it was brought in. Kerry are in for a tough final next week. It's a shame it'll be the end of our hurling season.

The Ring semi-finalists Kerry, Down, Meath and Kildare should be in a B championship against Antrim, Carlow, Laois, Westmeath and London in the months of June-July. These counties need a bit more competitive game time in the summer months. If the GAA were to reduce to McCarthy to 14 counties as opposed to 13 and have 4 in the provincial qualifiers every year, the 4 provincial qualifiers and the 4 Ring semi-finalist could play in a B competition with a similar format to the Ring Cup guaranteeing all counties an extra 2 competitive games at least.

I see Cillian Farrell is stepping down as Meath manager. He didn't say anything about the sending-offs but that their top scorer Stephen Clynch was carrying an injury...

Were there many in Ballycran yesterday? Any TV cameras there, by any chance?

Any footage from Ballycran? I hope the final will be televised at least. It's an absolute disgrace the way the powers that be in the GAA and RTE have marginalized this competition. Very disrespectful to the teams involved and to the memory of the great man this cup is named after.

It won't be covered on tv. Usually something like 5 minutes is given at the very end of The Sunday Game to showing highlights of all three finals. That's usually what they've done in the last few years.

Well done to Down hurlers on a great result on Saturday against a very dogged and determined Meath team.

Thanks again to RTE for the 30 min round-up last night on the Sunday Game on this game; great to see the effort you lads are putting in for the so called "weaker counties". Mustnt forget Croke Park who obviously set the ball rolling here in the negotiations with RTE - thanks lads ;-)
