Neutrals - could YOU pick Dublins starting 6?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I have asked this on the Dublin page also. But I would be interested to see what lads who have no vested interests might say here.
Say all Dublin forwards were fit and able
Could you pick a starting 6 with 3 subs?
For me it

Kilkenny A Brogan P Flynn

Mannion B Brogan D Connolly

Subs - Andrews, KMac, Cullen

(not a bad bench!)

Thanks lads.

I must admit im not a huge Connolly fan as i think he blows very hot and cold in games. Great options in the forward line for Dublin nonetheless. Tough decisions for Dublin management lie ahead.

I would also have a question mark over Connolly as I feel he will be a target for needling this year & could react.

Muckross and Kerry, would ye believe, for me, Connolly is actually potentially our best outfield player. And, i know this will go down like a lead balloon, but i reckon the man has more talent and ability than Bernard Brogan

100% agreed. Ability wise and skill wise I genuinely feel Connolly is one of the best in Ireland. When he turns it on he is simply a joy to watch. Such a stylish footballer who's best years are ahead of him.

Liam,
I don't question his talent or ability for one minute. It's his temperament I'm not sure of. You can have all the talent in the world but it's not much use if you are sitting on the bench & your team is down to 14.

Aye but he's a loose cannon Liam. Too easy to psychologically get the better of in the biggest games in my opinion.

Connolly a good footballer but tempermental and i only remember him having 1 great against Tyrone a few years back. Dont insult B.Brogan by comparing the 2. Connolly would not lace BB boots.

You won't have to worry about picking Connolly

I think connolly will struggle to hold his place. He will probably do so this year, as the likes of kilkenny and mannion are young, and he has more of a phsyical presence, but over the next few years he could struggle, that is going on what he has shown to date anyway.
I would actually have mcmanaman ahead of him.

all league Connolly has been a 3 points from play man
since the Tyrone game he has kicked on and ya he has days where he seems invisible but they are very infrequebt now
His play in the last 5 mins of the All Ireland Final V Kerry was as crucial to us winning as Cluxtons free, he was outstanding.

I am well aware what a player Bernard is, and I am a huge fan, but trust me lads, if Bernard and Connolly were both flying and both on their best form, Connolly is the better footballer. Thats not a knock at bernard, thats a nod to how good Connolly actually is

Peter Canavan said on TV3 a while back that Connolly was the most gifted forward in Ireland. Thats some statement

Connolly was captain against Tyrone in the league last month. That gives you an inkling of what Jim Gavin thinks of him.

It would be a great match up to see a flying Dublin attack against the best defence in the business, Donegal, aka The Borg. Resistance is futile!!

Muckross, but while the Borg captured Picard, lest we forget, eventually, the enterprise won him back :)

Liam, joe brolly said ciaran mdonald was a swedish maid, that doesnt mean he is one... The same applies re canavan on connolly...
I think he is over-rated. On what grounds do you say he is the best forward dublin have? His average pace? His over-emphasis on physicality? His short fuse? His lack of cuteness? Or his, more often than not, zero influence on games? I think that statement is an insult to the other forwards at your disposal. Paddy Andrews has had more of an impact in the league, as has brogan, mannion, flynn and even k mac when he has been introduced. Kilkenny will be a better player in time, even now he shows more awareness than connolly in my book. The reality is he has been trading off they tyrone game for a long time, and in truth they were all over the place in that game, they werent even marking him. Dublin would be just as good if he wasnt in the side, and I genuinely believe that. The only thing he offers that isnt already there is his size. Dont get me wrong, he is a good player, but not as good as he s made out to be.

I wonder will he definitely be available? I don't want to wade into non-GAA territory but from reading the news reporters it sounds like a serious case.

Impossible task with the talent they have, they easy have 14 brilliant forwards. I'd go with

10 Flynn
11 Brogan
12 Killkenny
13 Brogan
14 Connolly
15 Mannion
