Cork Hurling

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

We have been humiliated today, the home of hurling and we are going down to 1b. Tipp and Kilkenny are laughing at us. Can we turn it around for the championship and fool them all. Or is hurling in Cork at a really low end, I thought we were improving under JBM but after today, I don't feel I will be running around the country after this team any more. What you think lads, very quite after that.

The gaa have got it wrong and need to change.last year it took a replay for dub to go down this year it was extratime.limerick have only lost 1 game in 3 years in 1b league matches.(not Inc finals) and are still their.how can u try out players or blood them thats what league is all about but u can't.cos lose two many games in 1a and ur down.to guaranteed a final spot in 1b u can't lose any game.so why don't they bring up cork limerick offally and wex.have 2 groups of 5 top straight into semis 2nd and 3rd in qf.4th and 5th semi final of shield no one is relegated and everyone is happy.how many people will go up to see cork v Antrim or if yee are home to laois no body.cork are a big co yee have to shout out and revamp the league cos no one will listen to j Allen and limerick

Now that Cork have been relegated, the GAA might now realise that it is time to change the NHL format. The current format is crazy and people have been crying out for change but to no avail. No people might listen

if the league is to be changed which i think it should, they should make an 8 team division 1. everyone wants more games 2 groups of 5 will give the same amount of games as this year. bring up cork and limerick. then you have seven teams who could all beat each other on any day, obviously Kilkenny are still a little ahead. Offaly and Wexford dont deserve to be in division 1. they are not up to the standard of the other 8 counties, they have to prove themselves first. that gives a minimum of 7 games for each top tier side. structure should be: top 4 play off for semi finals. bottom team go down. top team from division 2 comes up. and a playoff between second last team in division one and second n division 2. simple and makes sense

There you go again expert !!! I wish Clare had gone down so we get a chance to beat you again ! Wexford and Ofally have suffered over the last ten years yes. But I didn't think there was anything wrong with the old structure. We were relegated because the GAA changed the rules for Cork and didn't disqualify them for not showing up to play games. When we returned the top flight they changed the format in order to put Wexford back down. I'd put my house on the rules being changed to save Cork now but in the interest of hurling i think Wexford and Offaly need to e playing the top teams

honestly wexford currently are not good enough to beat clare. but it dosnt take 5 or 10 years to become a top team again. lets not forget clare lost to laois in the league just 2 years ago!!! so leave wexford, offaly and antrim in the second division and let them fight for the right to play at the top level, and its up to whichever of them go up to maintain their position

Sorry Doylerwex your not up to standard have shown that the last few years. Top 2 divisions should be 8 teams 2 up 2 down.
No Need for relgation or promotion finals, if you win your division you should go up and if your bottom of league you should go down no second chances for finishing bottom.
Top 2 in each straight into league semis no need for quarterfinals.

I think there should be a group of 8 teams, 7 matches who ever top the group wins the league. I am not in favor of so called weaker teams playing against so called stronger teams in division 1b to improve their competition, it hasn't worked it never has. Can any body name a a weak team that has emerged in hurling in the past 10 years. No one. To develop hurling, it must start at under age. I think their should be far more under age competitions going on through out the year, this would improve hurling in weaker counties. To have the top minors in Carlow playing the Tipp minor or cork or limerick in a competition setting would improve them and eventually their senior team. More competitions at under age is my answer. The top group in the league should have 8 teams

I know were not but why ?? 2007 we got the league semi final. Following year we went down and lost a promotion final to a good offaly team before beating clare. We are still trying to repeair the damage done to Wexford hurling in those 2 years. and when we did go up and stayed up by beating tipp the decided to change the league to put us down again. The governing body killed wexford

Wexford are just not good enough to be in the first teir, Current Wexford team is slow and ponderous. I attended every league game for the past two years in one form or another and the weakest team in skill, belief and fitness was Wexford.

I don't know about that freetaker. Fitness is a big concern for me this year. Belief is a massive is but they do not lack in skill

Wexford are way off the mark and if they were to be included in 1a as part of a 10 team league, they would be hammered

Is hurling not suffering enough without burying counties in a lower league? Club teams from Offaly have won something like 6 or 7 of last 10 club championships in Leinster. The players have to be there. Hurling needs Offaly and Wexford in the top tier just as much as hurling in Wexford or Offaly needs it. The game nationwide needs it. Two groups of 6 with quarter finals and playoffs guarantee 6 games max 8. So what if it takes Offaly or Wexford 2 or 3 or 4 years to catch up? Quarters semis and Finals would always be competitive. Its the best of both worlds and no county would be banished to lower tiers condemned to play in front of 200 hardy souls. We have a great game time we started to promote it and stop serving the interests of the top counties. They will always play the game but Offaly Wexford and even my own county have strong competition from football and another 5 or 6 years in the wilderness could sound the death knell for the game in one or more of those counties.
