I don't think Bolton is a top defender. Very good player but I'm surprised McGeeney doesn't play him wing foward, I think he would be great there because he does get up for scores. ClassApart (Meath) - Posts: 1200 - 13/04/2013 12:08:10 1366883 Link 0 |
I think in the modern game it is impossible to say who are the top defenders, defenders no longer have to defend on their own they are usually accompanied by 3 or 4 others to help out. So to say one player is a top fullback or corner back is not strictly true rahillyman (Tyrone) - Posts: 314 - 13/04/2013 12:31:06 1366894 Link 0 |

I find it astounding that Frank McGlynn isn't getting in people's back line and the two McGees are. Wow. donegalboy (Donegal) - Posts: 120 - 13/04/2013 13:22:56 1366926 Link 0 |
To echo the above poster, how is Frank McGlynn not on these teams, people just vote with the big names, like Marc O Se is a great player but at the moment he is Not better than McGlynn at present . The man could have got player of the year last year. He can defend, is pacy, breaks forward and can score with ease. Your counties must be amazing if you's wouldn't want him. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but there is a line between opinion and not actually watching matches. TheRightStuff (Donegal) - Posts: 1688 - 13/04/2013 14:11:36 1366945 Link 0 |

Barry Owens from Fermanagh is without doubt one of the top defenders in the country. Always gets the better of his man and very rarely puts a foot wrong. Not only would he walk on any team in the country he'd be a main man in any team in the country. Derry_ledd (Derry) - Posts: 2093 - 17/04/2013 10:19:41 1369029 Link 0 |

A fully fit Justin McMahon is arguably the best number 3, and his brother is another who is as good a defender as there is about but due to his versatility he isn't nailed on when it comes to discussions like this as he could be lining out at midfield or number 10 as much as number 3 or 6. geoff (Tyrone) - Posts: 377 - 17/04/2013 12:08:04 1369087 Link 0 |
Michael Quinn from Longford is a class footballer and would walk on to any county team. CmonAymonow (Laois) - Posts: 160 - 17/04/2013 12:27:55 1369103 Link 0 |
