1348823 2 Wexford players(Bobby Rackard and Nick o Donnell I think?)shouldered Christy Ring off the pitch after Wexford beat Cork in the 1956 hurling final. It was Rings last game for Cork. When you compare these men to some of the characters around now like that Cookstown player you cant but despair.

How is this good sportmanship??? Am I missing something here????

Some confusion over use of the verb to 'shoulder' someone perhaps?

There was a show on TG4 a while back about the Kildare v Meath rivalry in the 90's. I'm not 100% on this but I believe Tommy Dowd got a belt from Glen Ryan, the ref was about to give the famous Kildare no. 6 the line before Dowd intervened .....ref decided to give Ryan a reprieve...amazing stuff....

I think he means carried him off the pitch on their shoulders rather than flaking him out over the sideline!

Sorry but what relevence has that got to this thread???

Indeed a bit of confusion there..lol...They did carry Ring off on their shoulders as opposed to putting him into the stand with a shoulder!

ClassConnollyDub :-)

Tomás handing the ball to Cluxton was mark of true sportsman. Contrary to legend Stephen kicked it to someone he knew rather than kicked it away!

Offaly applauding Antrim off the field was great gesture too. Easy to be magnanimous when you win so wouldn't cound the Dubs cheering Louth tbh!

Not reallysportsmanship but in 01 a few kerry lads, joined in when a few over excitement of meath fans were cheering every pass made to a meath player, the game was well over and one of them turned to me and said in deep Kerry accent ah sure if ya can't beat em join em,
Good sports men to the last, didn't leave early and shook the hands of every Meath fan around them, other county supporters would have taken offence but not Kerry

Dermot Earley Jnr lining out for Kildare v Antrim on the evening his father the great Dermot snr was buried. It was what his father would have wanted. Most memorable event in St.Conleth's for me. The applause was unbelievable.

Kilkenny having James McGarry and his son go up and collect the Liam McCarthy after his wifes tragic death. Also have been occasions where teams have offered replies to others after some dubious decisions.
