it may look nicer from outside but who cares you dont go to match to have foru course dinner off the terraces do you? and yes again i forgot the rugger heads have to have drink but you could do like they do in the airtricity league matches have a guy with pack back full of drinks selling them.gaelic grounds is far better situated for hotels and amenities.
its a half hour walk from both locke bar and 20 minute walk from curraghower to thomond, where as the gaelic grounds has the ardhu bar and the woodfield house within 2 mins walk.johnseys haha come on you kno well its in bad way hardly any comparison to a shoppin centre with a cinema like

Thomond is a better stadium. Rugby wise Thomond would always be chosen because of its history and how its a very decent ground compared to Gaelic Grounds.
No the rugby fans dont have to have drink.
But There is also the bohs, shannon bars which are in the ground of Thomond Park but outside the stadium.
No the gaelic grounds is not better suited for hotels and amenities. Strand within walking distance as are so many other hotels.
Nobody in their right mind would be chosing the gaelic grounds on any way ahead of Thomond for a rugby competition in any sector. The gaelic grounds has a bigger capacity and thats it.

This thing about choosing the Gaelic Grounds over Thomond Park because of location is laughable. There is no difference what so ever between the distance of the Strand Hotel, Greenhills or anywhere else anyone cares to mention to either stadium. At most I would say there is 500 metres of a difference. Its not like one stadium is in Caherdavin and the other is in Mungret. They are more or less beside each other for crying out loud

Yeah but Hill insisted it would be a big deal so i stupidly jumped into the discussion and we were both silly.
Point still stands Thomond will be used in any rugby world cup hosted by Ireland and if only one stadium in Limerick is used it will be the Rugby Stadium

GAA pitches are too big for rugby games. The players find it hard to tell where the sidelines & endlines are. Croke Park got away with it because it is a magnificent stadium but I'm not sure other grounds would work as well.

Thomonds location has not stopped people from england, wales, scotland, france, italy, new zealand, america, australia, argentina and on and on going to munster/ireland games there so why would it be a factor for a potential world cup in Ireland?
Ennis road is not 15 minutes walk from Thomond. Doesnt take as long as 15 mins to walk down to Hassetts and along shelbourne road down to next junction where shelbourne road meets the ennis road and it doesnt take 15 mins to walk through
No rugby competition in Ireland will ever be hosted where the Gaelic Grounds is chosen ahead of Thomond.
Thomond beats Gaelic Grounds hands down on everything except capacity

Why was that? I thought both pitches would be roughly the same size or are Limerick soccer team just brutal?

I meant there is no difference in distance to any of the hotels you mentioned. And you must have an awful bad limp if it would take you 15 mins to walk between the 2 stadiums

Why wouldn't the GAA do this? Get new stadiums built for them. It's good for the country, good for the towns and cities around the country where the matches will be.

People throw these jibes about the GAA loving the money but just like the Croke Park thing before everyone will benefit. All clubs, all counties. It would have been an extreme case of cutting off the nose to spite the face if it was rejected.

Hopefully Ireland goes on and gets it now.

Very short sighted decision. It makes absolutely no sense. What next Dunnes Stores giving Tesco a dig out for "the good of the country" ? Lazy but predictable cliche from ashure. A foretaste of the media take on this ridiculous decision.
