Attendances 2013

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I think arock has it to be honest.the recession is a factor but many football people openly dismiss the league as irrelevant (McGuinness said relegation didn't bother him),and many fans would hear this and decide not to go to a match if that's the attitude of the teams involved.
You rarely hear rugby people talk down the rabodirect competition (even though many of them field weakened teams for it).Gaa people need to be a bit more media savvy.

If they had the two games yesterday in neutral venues nearer to each of the counties involved then maybe it would attract more. There is noting worse than a game in croke park when its over half empty. A packed neutral venue is much more appealing.

Very disappoi9nted in the attendance in Croke Park yesterday especially from Dublin, to think that less than 25k bothered to attend was pathetic in my view.

GAA need shake up the league for next year. The current format is stale in two weeks time there is a double header of div 3,4 final 15k max will be at those games. Lack of interest = time for change!

i think that was a false attendance the weekend.
That was without a doubt the largest crowd so far for any of the matches in croke park.
considering they gave an attendance of 29 thousand for the opening round v cork and last sunday there was far more people in the hoganstand with the rest of the ground identical its very hard to see how you get 4 thousand less haha

2208 is the official attendance for Cork v Kerry in the minor in pairc ui rink tonight. That is 200 more than was at the cork mayo league game in Pairc Ui Choinh 2 weeks ago. That shows that there are fans of football in cork we just don't like supporting the style of football our seniors play

hill 25k was about right. you need to stop saying they're wrong just because it doesn't suit you. Dublin had 15k max there which is a joke but I think having semi's for a league is a joke. The final will let us know where the interest is at with the Division 2 final on as well.

How many do you predict will be there? I am going to predict 35-40k.

Also for the division 3 and 4 final I'll go with 15k!

betty

come off it 14 thousand given as the attendance in thurless today with only the one stand nearly full and both terraces closed and a handfull in the other stand.now do you see why I say there false attendances.
the cusack was full and the hoganstand had far more people then the first night against cork yet the attendance that night was given as 29 thousand so how do you get 4thousand less people at a match when you have more of the ground full?
there was about 20 thousand dublin at the match last week, you could actually here the players calling for the ball in the first matchand just look at the stands and hill they were empty during that game.

betty the division3 and 4 finals will be lucky to get 10 thousand max every year there played in front of around 3 or 4 thousandon the saturday in croke park,it just doesnt work laying them there, they should toss up for home advantage as after all the main aim of being promoted has been achieved for both teams playing.
as for the league final next sunday there was 36 thousand there in 2011 and I would say it will probably be around the same again.
cant tell till during next week what way ticket sales are going

Can someone tell me why the football semis & final are being held in Croke Park but not the hurling?

14,000 in Thurles for the hurling semi finals. I suppose that's Jim McGuinness's fault too!!

_______

Maybe has something to do with Thurles being the "traditional home" of Hurling ?

14,000 was a very poor crowd for the hurling semi-finals. In 1998 there was nearly 45,000 for a league double header with over 50,000 going to the final. However, the product was better back then. Can't blame people for not going yesterday. Those that stayed away were rewarded-two awful semi-finals. Can't blame the winners but they were non-events.

When you add up the attendances for both hurling & football semi finals, it comes in at less than 40,000, an average of 10,000 per game.

The sad thing is that all the counties involved would be traditionally well supported. Something is wrong.

All that's wrong is the lack of interest in the league. The semi finals only drag it out and even finals are stretching it a bit. Once your county is safe from relegation or is promoted then who cares after that. One THING i will say about the finals though is that it is a great opportunity for our lads next Sunday to get a run out in croker before championship.

lads 14 thousand is being very over the top in the first place they only had both sides of pitch open and only one was nearly full and the other had a small few in it id say 10 thousand at most was at it.
should be big corwd for the final as it being played in nowlan park will throw in the novelty factor for kilkenny getting to play a final there instead of thurles

Is the Hurling final on in Nowlan park they should have had it in Thurles with the U21 all Ireland final before it could have got 30,000. max in Nowlan Park will be 20-22,000. Would hope for over 35,000 in Croke Park on Sunday for the Football so the leagues go out on a bang
