you kidding me under 5 thousand of a differance in the games and when you consider donegal where at home and playing dublin a big draw where as in the hurling the game was being played in a neutral venue on a saturday night

2,012 was the official attendance at Cork v Mayo yesterday. Pathetic attendance and the travelling Mayo fans matched if not outnumbered the home fans.
The cork GAA public don't deserve a football team as good as they have, for such a huge county they should have more supporters.

Disgrace YT

And then people have the sheer nerve to give out about Dublin fans.

Yes Wayno and Cork have a population of 518,128 which is way more than all counties (Dublin excluded). I don't mean to be harsh on Cork fans. Their Hurlers have a great following, maybe they just don't like Football but then again when they won sam a few years ago they had plenty at the game.

Id say many were watching Munster in the Heineken Cup. Imagine if 4-5000 Dublin fans showed up in Croke Park because Leinster were playing?? My guess is a few threads would be open on the subject

i wouldnt be slating cork over their population of people living in cork as that means nothing, the thing I would be dissapointed with is they have huge number of gaa clubs so they obviously have big numbers of gaa members its why they dont turn out to watch their county team would be the question needs asking.

Cork, Antrim and Dublin by far the 3 worst supported GAA counties. Cork football supporters are a disgrace and you're right they don't deserve such a good team. The soccer team in the city matches that number regularly.

This has been done to death, but in Dublin the amount of gaa clubs and members is your starting point.(nothing to do with population) then take away all the country people who are involved in clubs with dublin,(who obviously wont be supporting the DUBS at inter county) which is a sizeable amount, while it is still alot higher than other counties ,its not as high as people think.
For me the DUBS have a good sizeable hard core support that would travel anywhere, and i can tell you killarney and ballybofey and Donegal town were happy for the custom this year.(because we were told on both occasions)and that was league.
Your also not being very fair to Antrim either if you want to look at their base to pick from.

According to the Examiner they are only expecting a crowd of 22,500 to 25,000 for Sundays league semis - a double header including the Dubs. I would have expected much more given that their opening game against Cork they had close to 30,000. I'm very surprised with the recent drop off in the Dubs support. It is a pity because the Spring Series is a great initiative and one that they should be backed to the hilt on. I hope it continues next year with the hurlers back in Div 1.

On the Cork footballer's attendances, yes they are shocking and have been for years. I was down the Park on Sunday and we were close to out numbered and comprehensively out shouted by the traveling Mayo support. This talk of taking the games out of the City is a bit drastic though. Firstly Saturday night games in Pairc Ui Riann bring much better attendances. Secondly the County board could consider the drastic step of actually telling people about these games! There is zero advertising, maybe it is not needed in other counties but our team are getting shocking support so the CCB need to get the finger out! A few posters on billboards, free tickets from local radio stations, arrange a few attractive double headers it's not rocket science but it seems beyond the Cork County Board!

in fairness to the spring series this year there were reasons why the attendances were down.
the fact the whole thing was only put together at the last minute ment they missed out on the christmas market that they had in the previous years which brought alot of family tickets sales.throw in the fact that it was really a winter or artic series this year with three of the most bitterly cold days for the kildare, tyrone and down games,it kept alot of people at home esecially with all the games live on tv.I would expect around 30-35 thousand on sunday which will be pretty decent considering tickets only went on sale tuesday morning I think the gaa should have marketed these semi finals far better as they are kind of just strung together on monday with venues times and that only being sorted and announced.especially considering we already knew three of the teams involved i cannot see why tickets were not on sale and packages put in place last week to promote these semi finals.
as for next years spring series I would love to see them let all under 16s free entry it would be a huge incentive for clubs to bring kids and would add hugely to the attendance considering if you had kids who arent belonging to clubs that would not normally go would be enticed along meaning you also get an extra adult buying a ticket to bring them so your not loosing any money.

With no let up in the poor weather it is taking its toll. Plus I have no desire (as I am sure do others) to go to a league match where realistically no one takes it seriously, get my ass frozen off to watch some dreadful game. That is why I would much rather go to a Minor/U21 game at least you get passion and commitment.

25,000 yesterday. Seems bizarre that Dublin can attract more to an evening game in the middle of Winter than to a league semi-final - and a double header at that!

There seemed to be very few travelling supporters and the recession is a definite factor for all concerned. On another note, I watched the game in Naas and in first pub we were in, there was only one customer watching Kildare v Tyrone - with sound turned down - and around 30 watching Celtic and whatever EPL game was on! Place we moved to was a bit more congenial but most people watching the match were Dubs and a couple of Mayo folk.
