Some Louth posters rightly wondering of low attendances and particiularly for our league game early on with them in Drogheda. People should remember that this was a re fixed game on a Sat after Galway were told on the original date only at 10am in the morning when the supporters buses were 1/3 of the way on the journey that the pitch was unplayable. I mean it rained right through the wend so why they could inform us at 7am that morning was beyond me. Some Galway folk i spoke with refused to make that journey again on the rescheduled Sat with the ineptitude shown by the authorities. We had a much bigger away support in Longford some weeks later which was good to see for a young slowly emerging side.

In fairness hill the attendances in Croke Park this year have been cat. The attendance went from 28,000 to 10,000 and declined from game to game. Compared to other years this was a failure. By the way I am not finding fault with the county board or the GAA in general for this. It was a great idea and they could not have priced it any more reasonably. They have to be commended for trying it. Croke Park is just to big for the demand. I personally would prefer to be in a packed Parnell Park for these games then Croke Park last Saturday night or the Saturday before last.

but parnell can only hold 7 thousand nowadays.
there was two extremes 28 thousand was big for first game and 10 thousand small for the last game the other three were all around the 20 thousand mark which is well over double what parnell can hold so i dont see the problem with playing the games in croker.
the county board missed out on any campaign this year with the series not knowing if it was going ahead until couple weeks before the first game over if kildare were in or not so i think that and the winter weather this year was against them.

The Tyrone Donegal game in May is confirmed for Ballybofey it will be a guaranteed sell out but do you think the GAA should have picked a bigger stadium to be able to bring in more money through tickets.Personally I think its the right choice and it will be good to see a sell out so early in the championship

Great decision. The place will be packed to the rafters with an incredible atmosphere.
I hear that tickets have been allocated at 6,000 each which seems a bit on the low side but time will tell,

The reason for the fall in attendances - aside from an appalling recession is the appalling weather. Even in "summer" sitting in the wrong place in Croker can freeze your marrow, imagine what its like in this weather? Few will bring kids out in this weather end of. Wind chill last saturday night was minus 6. Maybe if we are all packedinto Parnell Park it will be warmer - like Penguins.

Can blame this that and the other the fact is the crowds are terrible at the vast majority of games and have been for years not just thisyear

Double header in Croker for 13 quid last week 13 quid for 2 games! Ye wouldnt get it anywhere and still the crowd was not what it should have been. Dont know what GAA fans need to be enticed to games?

double header how many people even knew their was a hurling match on before the dublin v down game? it was not even mentioned on any brodcast or newspaper so bit unfair to even claim it was a double header the first game was merely a curtain raiser.they need promoting the games to get peope to go thats how you entice people.all of the matches in croke park were live on tv it hardly akes it an incentive on a minus 5 degrees night to go and ay in for the hay go lucky supporter.also the whole situation around if the spring series was even going ahead surey didnt help this year as they had no advertising campaign put in place and missed the christmas market they had in previous years.there is too much media influence on ther sports which in turn they are promoting them games the gaa needs to get the same media coverage to keep the big crowds, the whole attitude of put the ames on and people will come may have worked back in previous years but ireland unfortunatly is like little britain in modern times anything irish is no longer classed as good in he media.

Forget the weather, recession etc, attendances are bad because the league is not taken seriously by most counties, end of story.I don't have much interest in watching Galway during the league because I know win, lose or draw, most of the guys Im watching wont be putting in their maximum effort. Our inter county players and managers are quite open about the fact that theyre not bothered about the league either. From a promotional point of view it is a shambles to be honest.
In terms of promoting the gaa,the league is an untapped resource, but I don't blame RTE for its lack of coverage. Why should they take the league seriously when so many of the teams don't?

joncarter, your assesment of the league might have been true 20 years ago, but not today. Most teams are field ing close to full strength, and trying very hard to win games. I've first hand experience with one particualr county and I know the players are taking the league very seriously indeed.
