Attendances 2013

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

10,800 for Dublin v Down. Shocking attendance from the Dublin fans. Tyrone v Donegal a few weeks back equaled that. Kerry v Down had 7,000 at it. Dublin winning the all-ireland has done nothing for the GAA, interest is declining sharply.

Shocking attendance end of, if the game was more attractive more would attend, up to seven players tackled one player you wouldn't see that in a club nursery game. When the game improves people will return to it.

Come off it jack Goff.Get your facts right.Dublin played cork in the league final in the late 90s (think it was 99) and there was about 8000 people there. If they play this year anything below 35 000 would be a disappointment.People have been saying the Gaa is finished since italia 90.If anything Dublin seem to be getting stronger.

Im just back from match ,ye attendance was poor, First half was poor, but the second half from Dublin had nothing wrong with it. so dont be always slagging the football.

Woeful attendance in croke park last night

There wasn't a great Down support last night either. The roads are treacherous up here in county Down with all the snow. That coupled with the fact we all expected Down to get beat meant not many Mourne fans made the journey. Dublin fans don't really have much of an excuse for not turning up though.

Yep, sat evening and a home game , terrible crowd,
these are the matches that annoy me ,and come championship we will have the usual suspects telling us they never miss a match when looking for tickets or when talking about how they love the Dubs.

ah come on lads what did you expect we have been playing in croke park the last 4 weeks and with legue semi final more then likely going to be there too alot people were saving the coppers for that i would imagine couple that with the fact down were hardly a star attraction on a night of minus 4 degrees baltic ice weather that was in croker last night, the absence of kids was clear to be seen hardly surprising though.
it was always going to be the one league match this year that could have been played in parnell park and the county board were half looking at that before the league started.im sure you will see a differant crowd for the league semi final.

Still no excuse for poor crowd, doesnt matter who we are playing its the DUBS that supporters should be going to see. take your point about kids and the weather, but its a dry sat night and adults should be there, 13 euro isnt gonna break the bank.

Down V Dublin -

I don't think the southerns understand how bad it is up here! Looking at the RTE news, you would think that its just a bit of snow, but some facts:-
1. Snowdrifts up to 18ft recorded in north antrim
2. All local radio stations in belfast off the air on fri due to the snow ( hard to believe
3, 140,000 hoseholds without electricity.
4. All 999 calls had to be diverted via scotland due to local 999 transmission didn't work due to extreme snow...
5. locals saying it is the worst since the early 1960's..... and that after the winter of 2010 and 2011

So any down fan who went to dublin last night well done!!!!

Tralee was packed today there wasnt a seat to be had in the stand 20 minutes before throw in. I would say definitley 10,000 if not more at it. What were the other crowds today like?

I don't think anybody was having a go at the Down fans in fairness.

Dublin have a maximum attending support of around 65 thousand so last night 1 in 6 dubs turned up for a nothing game in the freezing cold to watch a Dublin team without BBrogan Killkenny Flynn and a host of other stars. The spring series has been unlucky this year with the weather, there hasn't been 1 nice spring evening in the 5 games that were played. I was at all 5 games on the hill and I think I now have a case if piles, varigous veins and a few other ailments. Roll on the semis, hopefully it will be a bit warmer.

In all fairness I didn't go to Castlebar because I always bring the daughters with me & I wasn't risking them catching their death. I would say that a lot of parents would have made the same decision.

My only query is why these games are being played in Croker, is the capacity in Parnell Park that small?

7,000 at Kerry v Down?! Where did you get that figure from? The attendance was 3,600.

muckross parnell park can only hold 7 thousand so yes this game had only 10 thousand at it it still allowed 3 thousand more to attend it but the other games all had 20 thousand at them so it still makes sense even allowing for a fixture pile u and artic march conditions to play the funnily named spring series more like winter series this year in croke park as its allowing alot more people go to the matches.

athcliath
you have to take into account we were virtually guaranteed a semi final spot yes the die hards like all us on here will go rain hail or snow but to your average supporter after going three weeks running and probably going twice last weekend to watch ballymun on patricks day you can surely see with a semi final coming up at croker in couple weeks they were always going to choose the sitting room and tv.the problem also is every dublin match has been on tv im nearly sure.

I caught my second dose of man flu on Saturday following the Dubs this year and I'd gladly get two or three more doses of it following my county. We are a very fickle sports nation. You do not see huge decline in attendences in other countries because of cold waether (well not that I'm aware of). Thats just a cop out in my opinion. It could be - 25 next September yet were the Dubs to get to the final this year it wouldn't stop people wanting to go and peopkle saying that they'd been following the Dubs all year and couldn't get a ticket and that was unfair..... Its a sad reflection of the typical Irish sports follower.

Just to add people are going to have to stop blaming the recession for poor attendances also. When the Dubs got to the All Final in 2011 it was suggested that up to 125,000 people wanted a ticket. At €85 a ticket and in the middle of the recession. I got a season ticket as a Christmas present. It cost €90 (a fiver more than an All Ireland ticket) and it guarantess me free acess to all league games (not just my own counties) as well as the first round of the Championship. Again Irish sports followers are just fickle in my opinion.
