Judging from the amount of red in the TV pictures, there seemed to be a huge Cork crowd in Killarney

Massive Cork crowd in Killarney such a pity crazy tactics had the game thrown away early. Enough of that though, the purpose of this post is to say that yesterdays atmosphere in Croke Park surely proves for once and for all that you don't need 50/60k in Croke park to generate an atmosphere. 36k and the atmosphere sound electric on the TV anyway (I was in Killarney myself!).

Close off the upper tiers and you have a 50k stadium, get 30k in there and a good product on the field and you are in business. I think it completely vindicates what the Dublin County Board are trying to do with the spring series. Fair play to the Dubs.

As for a general comment on attendances, they would want to be well up on last year with this beautiful summer so far, remember were rained out of it last year.

Whatever about the atmosphere in Croke Park, the atmosphere in Nolan Park with 23,000 was unreal. When Kilkenny came on to the field the roof nearly lifted off the place.

exactly. we don't need a new 30k stadium. If the main parts of Hil16 are full and the lower level plus premium section are full you will have a great atmosphere once the play is good on the field. The weather was great and Dublin replaced Kilkenny in the final this year. 37k was by no means great but it wasn't bad either. People in Dublin need to wake up and realize one of the best hurling teams in the country our among them. You couldn't have asked for a better day or even a more hyped up run to the final. Hopefully a new generation of Dublin hurling fans come out for the semi and help out join the hardcore who've gone through so many tough times. A Dublin v Limerick final would be great for hurling.

The Kilkenny match was sold out which was great to see. Some of the qualifier matches had shocking attendances such as the Galway match.

I'd like to add that Meath v Wexford would have been better off in portlaoise atmosphere wise but the players and management would have preferred croke park.

jack-goff that was avery good crowd yesterday a couple hundred more then what was in killarney.
there was only 10 thousand at both dublin v kilkenny matches so you cannot say dublin didnt turn out for the final yesterday as was a big increase and the biggest leinster hurling final crowd for a number of years

Read somewhere that nearly 70k expected in Croke park tomorrow. Can't see it myself but maybe with the sunshine it might increase the foot crowd

Munster final should sell out. How many where in Kilarney last weekend, looked pretty full and a lot of Rebels?

cant see 70 thousand at the moment as upper canal and hogan still not open and combined holds 15 thousand.
if the rest of the ground is nearly full could be between 60-65 thousand in that case

Cork people love traveling to Kilarney for the Munster Football Final. It a great day out. The majority of Cork football is also in west Cork along the Kerry border, so Kilarney is that far to be honest.

Far enough when you have to come from East Cork. If the footballers had to depend on support from West Cork, the crowd would be only half the size. Big support also comes from the City/Mid Cork and North Cork.

Killarney is a grand town, but Fitzgerald Stadimm could benefit from redevelopment. Standing on shallow, crowded terraces has never been my idea of fun. It must be the only county stadium which has only one stand (a third part of the townside terrace is taken up by a micro-stand, too).

Perhaps it would be true to say that more West Cork supporters travel to Fitzgerald Stadiim than travel to Pairc Ui Chaoimh. It's probably nearer for them.
