Will be 20,000+ in Portlaoise. Cats will travel this time and we'll bring a crowd.

attendances giving at gaa matches are on how many paid in, both munster hurling semi finals were giving at around 20000 but all u-16s were free so there not counted, the real attendances were 25000+

According to reports, it looks like the Leinster semi-final double header will be struggling to bring in 50,000 to Croke Park.Begs the question, where are all da Dubs, defenders of the earth, saviours of the GAA?

4606 for the Friday night game.
I dont think that would have been much worse if it was held on a saturday night but i suppose its good to see the GAA being innovative

Simple fact is that tickets prices for the games are way to costly unless this is reviewed attendance will keep on dropping.

The argument that ticket prices are too expensive is pathetic. The tickets for championship matches are cheaper than the equivalent of any other sport. How much for a ticket to a Heineken Cup match, tickets to the golf this weekend, tickets to get into the Curragh today, tickets for the league of ireland soccer are nearly the same price and that is junior a hurling standard. What do people want the GAA to do, pay them to go to matches???

the fact that the hurling semi finals are half the price of the football semi finals is very strange though seems they charging more just because the game is in croker, free entry for under 16s to portlaoise cannot see why they cannot do the same for under 16s in croker on sunday even if only for the upper deck as would at least be a bigger incentive for familys

General admission to the Irish Derby to day is €40. That's probably equivalent in quality to a terrace ticket for a GAA match. Irish Open Golf ticket is €35; as international golf tournaments go, the Irish Open is way down the list in terms of quality. As far as I can see there's nobody from the World Top 100 in the reckoning at the moment. Compared to that, €30 for an open stand seat in the Gaelic Grounds for the Munster hurling final in fantastic value.

If you lads want to see what traditional GAA rivalry and a big crowd is all about, make your way to Clones today.

Sergeant_Slash, I thought Clones would have been close to a full house for Cavan Monaghan too. 15k seems like a very disappointing crowd especially with the momentum Cavan had built up.

looks like Munster hurling final will be a sell out. hearing that all stand tickets have been sold. Gaelic Grounds capacity is 49,000 but only 44,000 tickets will be sold ( something got to do with health and safety)

Match Attendances

Are the GAA doing anything about the serious decline in match attendances over the last few years. The Dublin V Kilkenny game Saturday night only attracted 10 thousand supporters despite it being a replay, not being televised, and involving the all Ireland champions and the county with the largest population. Is it all down to the recession or are there other reasons, like lack of promotion ? Surely something needs to be done, otherwise games would be better off played in smaller stadiums where there might be a better atmosphere. Maybe slashing ticket prices is the answer or allowing all children in free up to provincial finals and all Ireland quarter finals.

The recession is a factor but the promotion is shocking from the GAA. Last year Cork had Kerry coming to Pairc Ui Caoimh in the Munster Football Championship and Tipp in the Hurling championship within a week or 2 or each other. 2 glamour fixtures with their greatest rivals and both close to 50/50 games, yet if you were a tourist visiting the city you wouldn't have seen anything to suggest. They got a little more through the gate than it would take to fill the park once between the 2 games but there was potential for two full houses there.

Even a few billboards around the city highlighting that these age old rivals were coming to town would have been something and surely it would have been the ideal opportunity to sell a ticket package with a discount for taking in the 2 games.

The GAA haven't risen to the challenge layed down by other sports. I find there isn't too many that want to chat about hurling and football matches where I work with high profile premiership and Lions tours going on. Hopefully the GAA will wake up before this trend becomes irreversible ..

have to disagree with the view the gaa attendances are falling and other sports are gaining.
wheres the evidence for this.
rugby crowds over the season just gone were all down.
ulster football and leinster football championships are up on last years attendances at the same stage as last year and with the finals to come i would say attendaces in both leinster and munster hurling finals will be well up on last years.
