Hill as a complete neutral i think you are being disingenuous about the size of Limerick hurling support. In my view Limerick have big support for the little success they have had. They always to seem to come out in big numbers. It is their footballers i feel sorry for. Even when they were going well the Limerick public did not really take to football apart from the football heartlands back in West Limerick. I have been at a few Limerick matches 1996 to say 2002 in hurling and they had huge crowds. I would go as far and say they are proportionately on balance the best support hurling team in the country followed. I am not just talking numbers here but support through both good and bad times.

im not being anything,i spend alot of time in limerick and i know the area well
from 1996 to 2002 every county in hurling had huge support, wexford and offaly were bringing 30 thousand to croker for games.
the attendance at the weekend was down 3 thousand on last years game between both teams so i dont see where all the talk about limerick bringing big support is coming from,im not knocking them im just stating the obvious.
they find it hard to compete with munster rugby to get people out to support them.as a city it caters for alot of sports just like dublin does and theres a huge spread of people playing all the sports including rowing which is huge down there.
but in terms of getting people to attend sports matches munster rugby gets all the promotion in the city and thats my point i find in summer at least limerick gaa should get more promotion

Hill I agree with you about your rugby point but in fairness Limerick have sustained some level of support whereas Offaly and Wexford are really struggling to get back support from the era you mentioned. Also Clare who are showing signs of a revival but still the support seems slow to follow. My simple point is that Limerick are a better supported team than the ones mentioned when the are going badly. That to me is a measure how good your support is as all counties typically have a proportion of fickle fans.

That is the best way to put it, for the lack of success we travel in huge numbers. If the Munster final was between Cork and Limerick in Thurles it would be an even split 25k each as Cork do travel in fairness, vs Clare i would go 30k Limerick 20k Clare.

I'd just like to say Hill that Limerick have amazing hurling support. I'm pretty sure if Dublin had only won 1 championship match in 17 outings then you wouldn't have that sort of crowd turning up for your first round game. They also failed to get out of division 2 so it wasn't as if you could see the beating Tipp got coming.

Great for the Munster championship. As much as I'd like to see Cork made it to the big time again they can wait another year. I hope it's the most novel of finals between Limerick and Clare. What a celebration that would be to whoever wins it.

10,000 in Brewster. Not bad considering the fuss created over the G8 which turned out to be much ado about nothing.

20,000 in Castlebar yesterday - great crowd considering the talk before the game of a walkover and the day that promised alot of rain but very little came in the end.

talk from people about this game getting a sub 50k crowd. I really don't see that happening. Let's say Meath/Kildare/Wexford only bring 25k between them. Dublin will easily bring another 30k. My guess is an attendance between 55-65k.

Cork clare should get 20,000+ which is more than the tipp Limerick game but I think it will be achieved. Carrick will be sold out surely. Dublin kilkenny will get 10 to 15,000 donegal down 15 to 20,000 and the offaly game close to 10,000

We only sold a little over 6,000 if we were going well their would be 30k at that match. I'm going to London v Leitrim game this weekend i can't see a sell out or anything close to it.

9,674 in O'Moore Park for Kilkenny vs Dublin
19,049 In the Gaelic Grounds for Cork and Clare

21,715 In Breffni for Donegal vs Cavan
7,698 in Páirc Seán MacDiarmad for Leitrim London

Decent crowds for the 2 football games. Disappointing attendances at the hurling provincials though. The Dublin public really don't seem to have bought in to their hurlers at all. Hopefully yesterdays heroics will make a few more sit up an take notice.

Was at the Cork Clare game. Crowd was about 50/50. Expectations were pretty low in Cork with relegation and subsequent injuries os I hadn't expected a huge crowd to travel. I thought there might be a bigger Clare crowd on the back of the Waterford win and recent u21 successes.

I'll be shocked if next Sundays double header at CP eclipses 40,000

Dahayeser, at least one third of the crowd were Dubs, which is not much less than footballers would bring to Portlaoise for what seemed to be a predictable outcome. Seemed like a lot more than 9,600 too. Stand was packed and far terrace nearly full.

Almost 8,000 at the London v Leitrim game yesterday will be lucky to get 3 to 4,000 for the replay.

Do the GAA benefit from announcing lower gates for matches? They said there was 24,000 tickets sold before the Down game yesterday and more sold on the day. How did only 21k go then? And there looked to be more than 10k in portlaoise. Just seems strange.

Cork GAA support has gone down big time. The footballers still get bad support but the hurling support has also dropped big time too. Remember the days when they were the Dublin of hurling bringing huge crowds to every game and filling the terrace behind the goals. Hopefully the Limerick and Cork bandwagons get behind their team in force.

What type of crowds will we get for this weekends qualifiers. As a Tyrone fan I looking forward to visiting Tullamore as I believe they have made big changes to the ground since I was last there in 2005.
