Down ladies - Proper message board

Was at Clonduff park yesterday and have to say i was Disappointed with the girls they didnt close out the fixture and come away with the win. All players mentiooned before deserve their mention but particularly Sinead Fegan. She is a class above the rest in the county at present and has a great attitude to the leadership role she has taken on board this year. A role model player. I hope she can continue in her rich vein of form as she has many many years at the top left in her yet. Kyla was good - but going back a couple of weeks ago people on here were saying she needed to be controlling the games and leading by example up in the forward line - now its time she did that. Sligo had a massive win yesterday and they will not be turned over ealy in their own patch next week. To sum up - a good job - but more to do..

Hard to comment from far of shores but looking at the result its a massive improvement on recent years against Armagh who basically tanked us twice last year and so a little bit confused at all the negativity as a 15 point turnaround against the reigning All-ireland champs is definite improvement, then again not surprised by the various posters probably former managers/selectors who couldn't cut it either and probably a few disgruntled players who didn't make panel/squad/team. Well done to all the squad and the management if thats not progress i don't know what is? Keep up the posts/reports for those that can't make it but try to be a bit more constructive especially some of the earlier posts about Kyla and her fitness etc which are totally uncalled for. I like to think we can be less bitchy but probably thats par for the course in Down ladies football, nothing will do unless you win by double figures and even then the gripers will snap at the team. Love to see team after games on a thread but after a game not b4 so 4 us that can't make it atleast we can see who played/scored subs, is there any objective posters out there? Maybe singer and kingdom who have their ears to the ground might print team here, please don't rate or slate just print and maybe the odd comment? Home in June whens the club scene starting? Whens county cship starting?

Countdown is on to the second game of the league series. Down will be looking to get a grip on the league table this weekend and climb with a victory. Its well within their grasp to beat Sligo - but lets hope the training this week aint too hard as they will need massive amounts of recovery with games coming thick and fast. Im sure the same team will be starting as they did a good job on Sunday against Armagh and unless a couple of the injuries cleear up or that - the same 15 will be taking the pitch again.
Any word on the club leagues or when they are likely to start this year??? The mens fixtures have been released now its the ladies turn to do same. Should be interesting/competitive year ahead.

I would bring Orla Fegan in at wing forward, Hannah Murray into the full back line, Megan Doherty into midfield and Natasha Ferris into the full forward line. That's if these players are available. No reason why the girls can't build on the result at the weekend and push on. A draw against the All Ireland Champions in a game which they should have won should do well for confidence.

Hard to see anyone losing their place from the starting team of last Sunday after drawing with Armagh, although the Half forward line could do with a tweek or maybe just a good talking to. There is still Orla Fegan from Shamrocks and Natasha Ferris of Bryansford to come back into the team which could push a few players out. I believe training was cancelled due to weather last night, maybe a rest will do them good. Sligo will be a difficult game and Down must make sure they dont take Sligo for granted, afterall, Sligo have more points on the board than Down do at present

I hear Jim McCorry was in training the ladies last night. A man who surely knows his football. Would be good if they could get him in even once a month. Couldn't see it though. Hopefully management and players learnt from him last night.

heard this about Jim being there last night. At least the management are open minded enough to bring in outside coaches, especially someone as highly regarded as Jim MacRory. Not running down the coaches already there but Jim really knows the game. Good move from Benjy to change it up a bit and get a new face and new perspective. Any news from inside the squad? Anyone know of any fresh injuries or returns to the squad? Sunday is a must win game, 1 point from first 2 games simply wont be good enough in this division

That was a master stroke getting Jim on board - even if only for one night - he has been there and done that at club and county level and yeah fair play to management for allowing this to happen. Any word of the team for sundays game yet?? Yeah as kindongael mentioned - this is very important game and one we need to win for sure. but on our day we are more than capable of competing with anyone in this division. Lets just hope sunday we get the reward...

Hopefully the girls can get a good result on sunday. I heard they are thinking of amalgamating the three leagues into two this year and thus do away with the junior grade - any truth??? two leagues of 10 teams in each... Dont know if it has been passed yet or just talk though... Would it be benefit to the clubs competing in the county???

Sligo - Enniskillen - Home in less than two hours - thats standard. Unless ur driving a Skoda or something... Dont need newspaper reports slabber - the girls all played well yesterday to a woman - and seemed to be well tuned in and focused for the game. Was particularly pleased with the fact that even though sometimes the game got physical esp from the sligo girls - Down were able to withstand this challenge and play their own game. Another pleasing aspect was the more senior players (even though they are still relatively young) stood up and protected their younger teammates. Tougher challenges ahead im sure - but keep playing like this and the ladies will be promoted for sure. Well done.
