called in at the Clonduff game on the way home and ended up staying the whole game. very tight in the first half with Clonduff all over the place. What worries me about this Clonduff team is tht they emptied the bench at half time and totally destroyed Teconaught from then on. Did they take them for granted or is it injury worries as someone above has mentioned? Also didnt even see paula gribben stripped out at all for the yellows. Is she sticking to the camogie this year? That is some scoreline from Castlewellan. Were they that good or were Burren missing players?? It will be hard for the whites to bounce back from this defeat before the weekends game. They need to get a result soon or their stay in the top flight will be short lived. singer (Down) - Posts: 330 - 19/04/2012 11:13:53 1155677 Link 0 |
Any results or updates from last nights games? singer (Down) - Posts: 330 - 22/04/2012 11:29:40 1157418 Link 0 |
Ballymartin beat us more comfortably than scoreline suggests (shamrocks) but its not surprising as Ballymartin are reaping the rewards of the successful underage teams they have had in the last few years and will clearly be the team to beat at intermediate level this year sam12345 (Down) - Posts: 24 - 23/04/2012 13:20:42 1158132 Link 0 |
Heard that alright, Ballymartin certainly gettin off to the start theyd have hoped for! good to see a club devleoping from the ranks at underage! What about Kilcoo beating clonduff on saturday? Big result for them.... clonduff struggled against teconnaught and now a defeat to their neighbours... maybe not the canditates for league we have been predicting. Expected more from shamrocks also! How are rostrevor doing in intermediate this year? TheKingdomgael (Down) - Posts: 167 - 23/04/2012 13:36:02 1158138 Link 0 |

Singer u dont need successful underage teams to have a few talented players to push through to senior and strengthen a decent squad to a strong squad TheKingdomgael (Down) - Posts: 167 - 25/04/2012 14:56:57 1159820 Link 0 |
Mayobridge have started the league in some style. two wins and a draw sees them on top of the pile at the minute. They beat a very formidable Clonduff on Tues night and then Ballymartin on Saturday evening. Will they topple the lilywhites and continue thier good run?? duff (Down) - Posts: 145 - 26/04/2012 11:38:49 1160318 Link 0 |
Thekingdomgael don't get sucked in by Singers posts. Singer is using reverse psychology and playing underdog card me thinks??? However I agree with you it doesn't automatically take underage success to mean that this will transfer to senior success, just look at the more successful underage winners of recent past like, Castlewellan, Bryansford, Carryduff etc its along while since they won a c'ship at senior level if at all for the latter 2 and then look at the recent winners at senior level recently, Annaclone, Bredagh and Clonduff over last 5 or 6 years. I don't see them coming down in underage trophies but they have had reasonable underage structures and I know others will say the latter 2 brought in players that won them success, nevertheless they had to have a fair sprinkling of players that they developed and were brought up through the underage ranks. On another note i think the Club season will take a while to develope as some teams seem to be at a more advanced stage than others at this early stage and are taking the league more seriously than others and with back door in championship it could well be one of the teams not just firing yet that could do the business like Annaclone did last year. When or if the other teams get fitness levels up to the likes of Carryduff/Bryansford in Senior league and Ballymartin/Rostrevor in Intermediate then it will become a more level playing field and it could be a team that enters the the c'ship through the back door that could surprise us all. Good luck to the County girls on Sunday in Clones. gaamna (Down) - Posts: 27 - 26/04/2012 11:42:58 1160324 Link 0 |
GAAMA - Underdog card is right, I think singer is under the impression that nobody knows who it is. Recent comments make it even more obvious that what many believe is correct. anyway without getting into that and avoiding any reply he may have, I agree that there is alot to come yet in these leagues. Byransford and carryduff will be hard to stop however castlewellan and Annaclone will have alot to say come championship time especially with the back door in place. Ballymartin, Rostrevor and Mayobridge are in good form but anyone who knows ladies football would be fools to rule out clonduff or shamrocks come championship time. Bothe the latter teams littered with injury woes in the early stage of the season and not suffering heavy defeats in any way whilst understrength. I for one am looking forward to developments this year as ladies football in the club scene in Down finally looks to be competitive with no one team in the top two leagues looking like running away with honours, they will have to earn the in every game. Unfortunately for the Junior league Bosco are set to walk it but who knows what might happen there. TheKingdomgael (Down) - Posts: 167 - 26/04/2012 13:23:42 1160443 Link 0 |

True you dont need underage titles to win senior stuff and those mentioned carryduff and Castlewellan are moving along nicely in the right dierection. Those two teams could be contesting for teh county title for years to come. Its a pity with the back door system in the championship that we will not always know who the form teams. In two weeks it all kicks off which is crazy timing. singer (Down) - Posts: 330 - 26/04/2012 16:50:02 1160672 Link 0 |
Think the two teams that make the final go up - thats the way it has been for years and has been a success altho the gaa have a habit of changing things that work!!!!!!! Disappointing result for our girls in thier last game - hope we can get full compliment out for the next game. vitally important to be ready for the games ahead as they are coming thick and fast now.. duff (Down) - Posts: 145 - 26/04/2012 17:04:23 1160683 Link 0 |
Only one team progresses into Division 2. Down will have to win at the weekend and then beat winners of Westmeath/Armagh to get promoted. No training from the last match does not look like a good indication. vocational (Down) - Posts: 26 - 27/04/2012 09:44:23 1161071 Link 0 |
That is a tough one - why did they change the format?? Why have the ladies not trained - i know there have been plenty of club games on - but no sessions at all is hard to believe. But maybe the management believes that the games will benefit the girls better in the long run. The senior games i have seen - the girls on the county panel are the ones shining throughout - with a few exceptions. But there are some others who could step up to it - especially from Carryduff - these girls could be important come championship time. singer (Down) - Posts: 330 - 27/04/2012 10:04:12 1161082 Link 0 |
Can't believe they haven't trained! I'm nearly sure there was training but only once a week as the club season had started and a few injuries had occured. Some good players not on County team alright but have they commitment or desire to play for county? gaamna (Down) - Posts: 27 - 27/04/2012 10:55:26 1161123 Link 0 |
Good luck to the county girls tomorrow in their semi final of the league. Hopefully a place in the final beckons and promotion to the next division. singer (Down) - Posts: 330 - 28/04/2012 15:23:20 1161886 Link 0 |
Cant believe the result from the ladies game a the weekend. Thought for sure they would have beaten Leitrim. But maybe another year in division 3 is what is required in order to better ourselves. Club scene now takes over and the clash of the weekend is surely the opening championship fixture. On paper Carryduff should hve way too much in reserve for their illustrious opponents - but on the big day they may not do themselves justice. Whichever team gets over this hurdle will have another equally tough assignment in the first round proper in a few weeks time. Any thoughts? singer (Down) - Posts: 330 - 03/05/2012 11:15:36 1165206 Link 0 |
Its nearly championship time.... some suprises in league form, what will this weekend throw at us? any predictions? TheKingdomgael (Down) - Posts: 167 - 14/05/2012 13:33:53 1171754 Link 0 |
