Great performance by Down Minor Ladies. At u-14 Monaghan beat this team comprehensively, so it shows the massive improvement they have made. Hard to single out any players, but the Ballymartin pair of Lauren Cunningham and Sinead Brannigan gave the home crowd plenty to cheer about, Mary Adamwonye covered every inch of the pitch, Amy O'Higgins performed the role of sweeper to perfection and Ciara Maguire was tenacious in marking the Monaghan All-Star Caoimhe Mohan. befair (Down) - Posts: 238 - 23/03/2011 16:52:01 894862 Link 0 |
What a difference a week makes! Incredible performance from the minor girls, how did they do that after all the obstacles that have been put in their way ? A new committee has been formed with very little fuss! Why did we not do that before now? We just need a senior win v Fermanagh at the weekend to cap it all off. ladiesman (Down) - Posts: 20 - 23/03/2011 21:03:19 895160 Link 0 |

I'm not brave enough to predict the full season winners, but I'll throw out my opinion on this weekends Senior games... leg_end (Down) - Posts: 62 - 08/04/2011 10:08:39 906602 Link 0 |
Heard that Sean O Hare could be back training down ladies very soon! He has been training ballymartin ladies recently. I think this would be a great move for the ladies team to get this man back! gaa2 (Down) - Posts: 116 - 08/04/2011 13:11:06 906790 Link 0 |

What has happened to the ladies game in our county? Beat by Fermanagh in league semi final and a host of league games not played yesterday for silly reasons and yet they wonder why we are not successful... Makes ya wonder. Should the management step down - yes they should hang their heads in shame. Making a sccene at the end when the Fermanagh manager offered his hand was the icing on the cake. The sooner Francie Toner gets the job the better so he can bring through these great minor teams from the last couple of seasons.. singer (Down) - Posts: 330 - 18/04/2011 09:41:00 913640 Link 0 |
I have to say I agree with what singers saying here. weepats5 (Down) - Posts: 295 - 18/04/2011 12:20:59 913836 Link 0 |
Singer, were you at the match? As soon as the match was over the senior manager walked to the Fermanagh bench and sock hands with their management. He then shock hands with all fermanagh players before talking to them in a huddle with their management congratulating them , before returning to us in our own huddle.... Make sure all facts are correct... vocational (Down) - Posts: 26 - 18/04/2011 14:12:53 913983 Link 0 |
Yes i was at the match - and the manager didnt shake hands. Mark Copeland shook hands but the manager didnt.. so i suggest you get your facts right.. singer (Down) - Posts: 330 - 18/04/2011 14:49:56 914048 Link 0 |
Agree with singer about the games being called off for silly reasons - I heard Ballymartin v Burren game yesterday was a disgrace - the referee got hurt in the first half and was unable to continue - and game was just abondoned. why was this allowed to happen i surely they could have found another referee in the crowd or area to finish the game. god no's when it will be played know as down minors have an ulster game on easter monday and girls not to play club football this week. Another game that wasnt played was bridge v tullylish - for what reason?? this is a major problem with ladies football in the county!! raffles (Down) - Posts: 8 - 18/04/2011 15:56:25 914144 Link 0 |

Singer, not getting involved in a long discussion, but where do you get your facts. If Mark isn't the manager, who is? Mark takes all training, picks the team, and gives all the team talks before, during and after the games.. Mark was very respectful to Fermanagh on Saturday, shaking hands with all their management team and players before talking to them in a huddle in the middle of the pitch with their manager. It is a huge disaster yes to still be in division 3, the goals were the killer, especially the 2nd penalty.. With the minors coming through next year, it will give this young team a chance to develop at senior county football, before making s move to the top divisions, saying as this years team is still playing in the senior championship...good work county board.......also why were games played yesterday when some girls played a full match the day before. Not to worried about player burnout... vocational (Down) - Posts: 26 - 18/04/2011 17:14:28 914221 Link 0 |
The younger girls will I believe benefit from another year at this level, the idea of bringing back experienced players on the eve of this semi-final to attain short term success was never a good idea. Singer's mistake is easy to understand Marks opinionated selector/assistant manager? is a sideshow the county can do without. It's very hard to understand why he has been tolerated for so long? Should Mark get another year? I'm not so sure - he seemed to learn little about his players as the year progressed and relied much too heavily on his selector/ assistant manager ladiesman (Down) - Posts: 20 - 18/04/2011 18:52:01 914359 Link 0 |
