New manager - new year.... Any predictions what will be the outcome of the season for the ladies this year?? singer (Down) - Posts: 330 - 19/11/2010 11:26:44 819328 Link 0 |
I think this could be a great season for the ladies.. they now have found their level with the league and the championship. Nothing to stop them now. Hopefully the training goes well for them and they get what they deserve. Also hope the older girls are now gone for good and that younger blood is allowed to flow through this setup as the older ones were stale... duff (Down) - Posts: 145 - 19/11/2010 14:50:41 819455 Link 0 |

Ladies going very well this year and are already in the semi finals of a tournament. they are playing fast attractive football and it is a joy to watch. Only thing i see that is a potential weakness is the fact they have soooo many girls on the panel. this is bound to become very demoralising for some girls on the panel who train religiously and then watch others start games before them who havent trained really at all... singer (Down) - Posts: 330 - 26/01/2011 09:40:21 853934 Link 0 |
agree with singer on this one! too many people are going to walk onto the team because of thier past and also their name! should be a case of whoever trains plays! d.p. (Down) - Posts: 7 - 26/01/2011 13:33:15 854140 Link 0 |
I think thats a bit presumptious assuming that management will only be playing 'big name' players who've played before!? In saying that I do agree with the sentiment 'she who trains plays'. But surely the Dowd Cup is a great chance to use a wider more fluid panel and give players who wouldn't normally break onto the first 15 a chance to show what they can do? I'm sure the panel will be cut down come National League, no doubt that will include a lot of the experienced players, but from what I've seen so far, the management seem to have a decent mix of 'new & old' on the panel? leg_end (Down) - Posts: 62 - 26/01/2011 19:59:24 854520 Link 0 |
It seems to be the case that the so called big name players are getting game time though. We are in dire need of a keeper at the minute - there is absolutely no doubt that Katie Farrell is the answer to the problem - but with her soccer committments - she cant give the required committment to the ladies. This is a shame. I really dont know of any other top class keeper out there who could fill the void. I hope the panel is cut and that those who dont make it are reassured that there will be other opportunities further down the line at some stage. National league starts with a bang away to Clare. this will not be an easy fixture at all and we need to get off to a winning start. This division is a great opportunity to blood other younger players though and down should be winning it comfortably. they won division 2 a couple of years ago - surely they are good enough for division 3 now with most of the same girls playing. singer (Down) - Posts: 330 - 27/01/2011 13:53:47 854889 Link 0 |
What do yous think the lineup will be for our first competitive outing at the weekend? Will any of the new faces get a chance at the big game? singer (Down) - Posts: 330 - 01/02/2011 12:16:08 857996 Link 0 |
Hope to see a few of our UUJ girls on the team this weekend. Along with the Queens girls and Dowd Cup Squad this team looks very young.... vocational (Down) - Posts: 26 - 02/02/2011 10:30:50 858532 Link 0 |
no wonder some of our talented young players in the county dont wanna play senior football after that result yesterday... The ladies are not in a good place right now and need to address some major issues before we become the laughing stock of the country. singer (Down) - Posts: 330 - 07/02/2011 17:43:30 862485 Link 0 |
Singer, just a week or two ago you were praising the ladies and now again as usual a defeat brings you out and once again start to be negative. Dont know what is going on with picking a team to play if players are not training, but with the Dowd Cup just finished, you would expect everyone to be training together now. Yesterdays team is on the ladies gaa webiste and looked fairly strong, but still missing a few bigger names like pyers, downey sisters, morgan and cunninhgam. Hopefully next weekend kick starts the season.... vocational (Down) - Posts: 26 - 07/02/2011 18:10:47 862520 Link 0 |
You can always count on Singer to put down the ladies. Just to comment on your previous post about ' being the laughing stock of the country' what do you base this thoughtless comment on? This year the ladies has seen a new manager in charge, new players brought in and new ideas coming across. Yes it would have been great for the girls to go out and get a result but losing the opening national league fixture isnt the be all and end all. Its not how you start a season its how you finish it. This young team coming through needs the support of all the county not to be put down by clowns like yourself and i have no doubt that the national league will be used as a stepping stone to play and work on the system the management want to play now that they have all the girls available from there respective universities. Winning the National League would be a good achievement but winning the championship would be a great one. weepats5 (Down) - Posts: 295 - 08/02/2011 16:25:59 863283 Link 0 |
Meant to say also in my previous post that i agree with what singer has to say about M.Downey. A girl with her experience would be great to have on the team/squad to help bring the younger girls through. She has won more or less everything there is to win the game. But then if a player doesnt want to play you cant make them. weepats5 (Down) - Posts: 295 - 08/02/2011 16:37:02 863298 Link 0 |
Well i am only stating an obvious fact. there are girls in the county who are not training - and i mean giving it 100% tues/thurs etc - and are starting games. this should not be allowed to happen. Girls that train no matter how average they are should always start ahead of those who do not. This sets out the best possible message to all the players. Winning division three should be a must this year. my god two years ago we werre division two chamopions and most of them girls are still playing. Michaela should still be playing but like you say no point forcing the issue. singer (Down) - Posts: 330 - 09/02/2011 11:19:46 863746 Link 0 |
Singer I agree with what your saying about players that train week in week out should be given a chance to show what they can do. I do think though that certain players ie players playing for there universities should be given a bit of lee-way as they are training and cant be expected to beout of the house every night training with exams commitments etc. They should however show there face at at least one of these sessions to show that they are part of the set-up. weepats5 (Down) - Posts: 295 - 09/02/2011 12:20:46 863805 Link 0 |
Im not saying anything about the university players to be honest they do enough. they are training with county level girls all week at uni and need to have their recovery time and rest as much as the next person. Some of the county girls who show up tonight to training and then not until next thursday are the ones im talking about. this is not on at all. they need to be committed to the cause. I know i may have given previous managers stick for the way they handled the ladies - but i will give them one thing - they had a tight knit panel together who trained like hell all the time and they got their reward. i dont think the season is a write off at all - the season starts this sunday and i believe we need to be winning the league and setting our targets real high. lets not settle for being also rans - lets push on and win something. i feel we need positive attitude at all times to try and spur the girls on. singer (Down) - Posts: 330 - 09/02/2011 13:02:58 863844 Link 0 |
