Down ladies - Proper message board

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

This is typical of this county. We have someone from another county that would be a good option for county management and all we can do is find faults and criticise.
To answer your remark about that minor team not winning a game and nearly not fielding v tyrone..., i have to inform you that i find your remarks disrespectful to myself and every other player on that team. There were 5/6 players that the senior team had complete control over that year and we hardly seen them, and then there was an ulster schools final, which involved 7 of the squad, the day before that 2nd tyrone game. These are not excuses but reasons as to why we didn't do ourselves justice that day.
Also anyone involved in ladies football will realise that good minor players do not necassarily become good senior players, and a lot don't even go on to represent their county at senior level.
What we need is to bring as many minors through into a senior set up with lots of experienced players around them to let them find their feet. Last year proved that having too many young girls playing at the one time dosen't help anyone.
I have already stated who i think the main contenders should be and i hope the reasons i gave are constructive (Unlike Soprano) I have also said that the chances of getting him are slim but after 'sopranos' last post do you really think ciaran would be pushed on coming on board. I dont think so!! i think we'll be left with the option of Jackie and francie as a team.

I've heard that Ciaran has his name in for the job, this is brilliant news if true, bring on next season!

Its obvious from the posts and reactions to the posts that there is still passionate people who care about ladies football, but that in itself is not enough. The best management/set up can only do so much, you can bring a horse to the water but you can't make it drink. So its not all about the management it must include a committed bunch of players, young and old, but that can be difficult with work comms, study, uni teams and club responsibilities. Thus the management and the team is only part of the solution, we also need club support and backing, which can be a 2way process. And as I said previously on top of these 3 components you need a strong coherent CB that is willing to make the big decisions in the interest of the association. There is meant 2 b a meeting of all interested parties in the coming weeks so it will b interesting 2 c what is said and what the various delegates bring to the table. A bit of common sense and a bit less b*t*hing added to the obvious passion could indeed lead to an interesting year ahead which will hopefully realise the potential of the players in Down. On potential managers what about the Carryduff manager who has done a great job with them this year and can on their first year up still win the Senior league?

I'm certainly not being sarcastic Samnextyear, Ciaran is a brilliant coach and manager with great ideas and a real insight into ladies football.
I think he will be brilliant for Down next season.

Kevin Owens from Castlewellan took Queens and had a bit of success there. Ithink we need someone who has coached at that level to understand the levels of ability and fitness required.

You just got caught up in the crossfire SNY. I accept what you're saying and acknowledge that many of that group including yourself have progressed to the senior ranks. But PumaGals continual dismissal of the players and management that make up that group that came behind you is very likely to prevent many of them wishing to represent Down at adult level and its clearly fuelled by the bad communication issues of last year that would be better forgotten. Ciaran Quinn would be ideal for the seniors i can see that, and I genuinely hope he gets appointed, it's no secret that he is interested and available.

Sorry to bust your bubble folks - but apparently ciaran is really wanted by the Monaghan ladies board and the girls on the panel. I think he is going to go for that position - and who could fault him. There is lots of potential in the down camp yeah - but Monaghan will see this year as a loss with Cork having been beaten and Dublin winning the all ireland. they will feel that it is one that got away....

Is there any word if the girls were regraded or are they still in senior football next season?

Ok 'soprano' maybe i was a little harsh in the way i spoke about last years minors, and i know that success dosen't always mean winning trophies.
But there is such a good blend of experienced and young players in the county at the minute, i feel that it's time we stopped competeing and it's time to deliver an all ireland.
And i know its not just about how good the management are, its about the commitment of the players, county board and clubs as well. But i believe that having quality management will bring all the other parts together.
Lets hope this is going to happen and we'll get Down back to were they should be.
Duff, how sure are you with your info, as a lot of players were kinda gettin hopes built up about ciaran being the next manager

Fair enough PumaGal , we all have the best interests of the county at heart, but very little we can do about it - it's in the hands of the county board at the moment, let's hope they manage to get some of those mentioned to commit and the girls get behind whoever takes the challenge on. Good luck to Bredagh, Shamrocks and Tullylish over the weekend. I see Carryduff and Bryansford do battle on Saturday night too- that's a tough one to call?

Does anyone know if there is any movement on advertising or interviews for the senior job.
Heard that ciaran quinn is going to take up the monaghan post. Very disapointed but we have to move on with plan b or c if there is one?
With bredagh winning in the ulster championship, what about their manager?? Since he was appointed they have won 2 championships and lost in ulster to the eventual all ireland champions.

Do you not think it will be a hard task to attract a Manager when the players dont seem committed. A manager can only do what he/she does.MANAGE.A manager is not there to be liked.

Respecting someone for what they have achieved is not the same as liking them. But as one previous poster has said, we don't need to worry about ciaran as i've heard he has put his name forward for the monaghan job.
What is the story on the Bredagh manager, in his 2 years he has won 2 c'ships and just won a game in ulster. They lost in the 1st round to the eventual all ireland champions. He must be doing something right!!
Is he available or even interested in the job.
Who is plan b or c now that plan a is gone?

soprano you seem to know a lot about the minor set up last year could you tell me why the minor girls who were asked to go and play for the senior team got a text from someone in the minor management telling them they may be putting there place on the minor team in jeopardy if they go to the senior team ??? is that what you call good management ??????????????????

Why bring this up now? Francie supported and encouraged those minor players that wanted to play senior football and the misunderstanding is he also supported those that did not wish to do so, for whatever reason? It can be difficult for a 16/17yr old to say no to a senior manager but I know some of the girls felt pressured when asked to play, they didn't want to disappoint anyone but they also did not want to go to that level yet- Rather than have them feel uncomfortable or stressed Francie took the heat and I know the girls appreciated that, he supported the decision of that small group of players even if it made him unpopular with the senior set up and consequently co board.

The reality is a few girls wanted to play and a few girl didn't. No Text ! No Ultimatums! I hope the new minor management are half as committed to the minor girls, they are devastated the outgoing management team felt they could not return,

Why are Lady teams always managed by men? Are there no wemen that could do it?

if you bothered to look at a lot of the previous posts, you'll find that a lot of people have wanted Jaqui Clarke to take the job. It dosen't really matter whether a man or woman takes the job as long as they're good enough.
Been confirmed that kieran quinn has the monaghan job and heard the breda manager is travelling for a year, so is there anyone else that would be worthy asking????
