This is typical of this county. We have someone from another county that would be a good option for county management and all we can do is find faults and criticise. samnextyear (Down) - Posts: 6 - 27/09/2010 14:43:16 784925 Link 0 |
I've heard that Ciaran has his name in for the job, this is brilliant news if true, bring on next season! jaffa5 (Down) - Posts: 13 - 27/09/2010 15:05:28 784964 Link 0 |
Its obvious from the posts and reactions to the posts that there is still passionate people who care about ladies football, but that in itself is not enough. The best management/set up can only do so much, you can bring a horse to the water but you can't make it drink. So its not all about the management it must include a committed bunch of players, young and old, but that can be difficult with work comms, study, uni teams and club responsibilities. Thus the management and the team is only part of the solution, we also need club support and backing, which can be a 2way process. And as I said previously on top of these 3 components you need a strong coherent CB that is willing to make the big decisions in the interest of the association. There is meant 2 b a meeting of all interested parties in the coming weeks so it will b interesting 2 c what is said and what the various delegates bring to the table. A bit of common sense and a bit less b*t*hing added to the obvious passion could indeed lead to an interesting year ahead which will hopefully realise the potential of the players in Down. On potential managers what about the Carryduff manager who has done a great job with them this year and can on their first year up still win the Senior league? ford_abu (Down) - Posts: 50 - 27/09/2010 16:52:32 785095 Link 0 |
Well said ford_abu. samnextyear (Down) - Posts: 6 - 27/09/2010 17:17:21 785124 Link 0 |
I'm certainly not being sarcastic Samnextyear, Ciaran is a brilliant coach and manager with great ideas and a real insight into ladies football. jaffa5 (Down) - Posts: 13 - 28/09/2010 09:11:23 785495 Link 0 |
Kevin Owens from Castlewellan took Queens and had a bit of success there. Ithink we need someone who has coached at that level to understand the levels of ability and fitness required. monitor (Down) - Posts: 209 - 28/09/2010 11:38:50 785626 Link 0 |
You just got caught up in the crossfire SNY. I accept what you're saying and acknowledge that many of that group including yourself have progressed to the senior ranks. But PumaGals continual dismissal of the players and management that make up that group that came behind you is very likely to prevent many of them wishing to represent Down at adult level and its clearly fuelled by the bad communication issues of last year that would be better forgotten. Ciaran Quinn would be ideal for the seniors i can see that, and I genuinely hope he gets appointed, it's no secret that he is interested and available. soprano (Down) - Posts: 38 - 28/09/2010 19:36:52 786212 Link 0 |
Sorry to bust your bubble folks - but apparently ciaran is really wanted by the Monaghan ladies board and the girls on the panel. I think he is going to go for that position - and who could fault him. There is lots of potential in the down camp yeah - but Monaghan will see this year as a loss with Cork having been beaten and Dublin winning the all ireland. they will feel that it is one that got away.... duff (Down) - Posts: 145 - 29/09/2010 13:11:59 786605 Link 0 |
Ok 'soprano' maybe i was a little harsh in the way i spoke about last years minors, and i know that success dosen't always mean winning trophies. puma_gal (Down) - Posts: 24 - 01/10/2010 18:18:27 788522 Link 0 |
Fair enough PumaGal , we all have the best interests of the county at heart, but very little we can do about it - it's in the hands of the county board at the moment, let's hope they manage to get some of those mentioned to commit and the girls get behind whoever takes the challenge on. Good luck to Bredagh, Shamrocks and Tullylish over the weekend. I see Carryduff and Bryansford do battle on Saturday night too- that's a tough one to call? soprano (Down) - Posts: 38 - 01/10/2010 21:32:45 788681 Link 0 |
Does anyone know if there is any movement on advertising or interviews for the senior job. samnextyear (Down) - Posts: 6 - 05/10/2010 13:52:11 790442 Link 0 |
Do you not think it will be a hard task to attract a Manager when the players dont seem committed. A manager can only do what he/she does.MANAGE.A manager is not there to be liked. monitor (Down) - Posts: 209 - 06/10/2010 10:37:59 790988 Link 0 |
Respecting someone for what they have achieved is not the same as liking them. But as one previous poster has said, we don't need to worry about ciaran as i've heard he has put his name forward for the monaghan job. puma_gal (Down) - Posts: 24 - 06/10/2010 13:57:01 791170 Link 0 |
soprano you seem to know a lot about the minor set up last year could you tell me why the minor girls who were asked to go and play for the senior team got a text from someone in the minor management telling them they may be putting there place on the minor team in jeopardy if they go to the senior team ??? is that what you call good management ?????????????????? duff22 (Down) - Posts: 30 - 06/10/2010 21:56:49 791579 Link 0 |
Why bring this up now? Francie supported and encouraged those minor players that wanted to play senior football and the misunderstanding is he also supported those that did not wish to do so, for whatever reason? It can be difficult for a 16/17yr old to say no to a senior manager but I know some of the girls felt pressured when asked to play, they didn't want to disappoint anyone but they also did not want to go to that level yet- Rather than have them feel uncomfortable or stressed Francie took the heat and I know the girls appreciated that, he supported the decision of that small group of players even if it made him unpopular with the senior set up and consequently co board. soprano (Down) - Posts: 38 - 07/10/2010 18:16:45 792128 Link 0 |

Why are Lady teams always managed by men? Are there no wemen that could do it? Frank Mitchell (Down) - Posts: 1082 - 28/10/2010 10:18:42 804837 Link 0 |
if you bothered to look at a lot of the previous posts, you'll find that a lot of people have wanted Jaqui Clarke to take the job. It dosen't really matter whether a man or woman takes the job as long as they're good enough. samnextyear (Down) - Posts: 6 - 28/10/2010 13:43:50 804985 Link 0 |
