I don't believe the minor manager is in any way at fault, the scene was witnessed by a large number of players and clearly the senior managers where making conflicting statements. Earlier in the evening it was announced the two squads would train together and co-operate, so prior to the scene the minor manager had no problem and fully supported the teams working together.

Good luck to the senior ladies in the championship on Saturday evening against our old neighbours and rivals Armagh. Lets hope the girls put on a good performance and get their season underway from this point forward. I hear they have been going well at training and the training has been tough but enjoyable and with Michaela back on board - we will surely get the result we deserve on Saturday evening...

What the hell has happened to the ladies in the championship?? they are getting tanked by all teams who play them - i fear for them against Monaghan as they are probably the best in ulster at the minute. How have we fallen so far in one season? The team of last year seems to be a thing of the past... The minors are now in a shield competition and some refuse to play senior football - this should not be allowed to happen. is this the best we can hope for in the future - where we win B competitions and shield competitions?? Not good enough when we are putting in good work at club level - we should be getting more out of our ladies at senior level... Half the girls who played on sunday are very very average club players - why are the county players in the county not playing for Down anymore?

Why dont you step up to the mantle then singer and stop moaning about it. When you have girls in the county that dont want to be play intercounty football what are you to do? Beg them to come back?

weepats5 i am on here for the good of ladies football in the county so please refrain from a slanging match. girls arent playing for their county because its not a big enough challenge for them. The past management had a decent working relationship with most of the players but this current management dont have that. Do we need to go outside the county and employ a manager who knows none of the ladies and has no history with any club team and pay them for the job? it could be the only way forward.

Its not a big enough challenge playing county? Your having a laugh. They won there national league and went up a division there was a challenge there. They didnt want it. I can hardly be too easy if they didnt win an all ireland last year.

They won the national league but stayed in the same division as there was a league restructure and have now been relegated this year. I certainly don't blame the management that are there, they are part of the county board and made a decent effort to find a manager but no-one wanted the job and when some of the more experienced players seen this then they decided not to commit this year either. Playing for your county should be a massive honour no matter who the manager is and personally I would have to put most of the decline down to our top players not preparing to commit. Some may have genuine reasons but a lot of them certainly don't. Two of them are even heading to USA to play football for the summer when Down could really have used their ability. Paying a manager would be fine but it takes money and this is something which they don't have. I don't know what has changed with the generations of players through the years but, for me, playing for your county should be an honour and something every player should aspire to and players should give of their best be it at matches or training. Unfortunately some ladies in Down think they are above this!!

Question.... Is County Football the most important thing in life? Should it come above all the other commitments, pressures and opportunities that are in the lives of girls playing Gaelic Football.
Listening to the posts on this board it certainly sounds like it!!?? and I actually can't believe what I'm reading some times! I don't know the demographic of the others posting here, but what would you say to you're daughter/friend/sister who has the chance to go to the USA to play football for the summer.... I tell ya what i'd say.... Flipping go for it!! What a fantastic opportunity!!
Or what about Girls who have given years of service to club and county and just need a break??... Apparently on this board it is 'Shame on you all for letting down your county!!'
I don't think so!!! Shame on those who think county commitments come above all others!!! Sure you can't bloody win on this board.... last year the management were horrific, now we're calling for them to come back, previously certain players were the worst in the world for being glory's and past it, now they are being heralded as the county saviours.....

As a fan, Yes I want to see the county win and represent us well throughout the country, and I realise that what I've posted certainly doesnt give any answers to how to improve the results, BUT, I totally appreciate all past and present players... for the commitment they gave and continue to give. They are a credit to their clubs, and should not be mocked or slandered for making difficult choices.
This season has been a right off results wise, but we'll never be able to regroup and rebuild with this negative and poisonous attitude!!
Rant over!

The girls from our club are really enjoying their county football at the moment, they enjoy the company the craic and the challenge. They have had a great season and are committed to finishing it off as best they can. You have to admire the effort that has gone into coaching and keeping them together.

is county football the most important thing in life - well thats up to the individual. there are some girls out there and indeed men who would give their right arm to play for their county - but for maybe one reason or another they dont get the chance. those who are there on the panels should be taking the chance given to them with both hands and doing whatever is expected of them to make it to the top. my point a while back was that some girls are taking their chance for granted and complain when not playing for the team - yet very rarely turn up for training. some when they do go to training mess about all the time and dont take it serious. they need to realise the management put alot of effort into trainings and they just tuen up and take the mick out of the session. i was at a recent sesion and there were 9 girls at it. that is a disgrace. Club teams have bigger turnouts. If you have made the commitment at the start of the year to give this county set up a go - then stick to the commitment. dont drop into training when it suits you, put in minimal effort and then complain when you dont get to play - thats pathetic. We will rise again and mayb a drop to division 3 will help gell some of the girls together for the next season ahead.

So the story goes that Down Ladies have pulled out of the Ulster Championship.

What happened?
And does a county team receive fines for doing so?

Yes the Down team have pulled out of Championship against Monaghan. I think fines are inevitable.
Pointless playing the match when Monaghan have already reached the Ulster Final and Down can't reach it. I think the Ulster Council were wrong to change the format this year, a round robin format is not what Championship is about and playing against Monaghan will do the Down team no good, particularily after the result against Tyrone.

Just looking at the club leagues there and they started on the 3/4/10 this year and still some teams have only played 5 games, some 6 and some 7. why is this the case? the mens leagues started the exact same time and there are 12-14 games played in some of them. its an absolute disgrace for the ladies association. Look at the down website and there are so many blanks where games are supposed to have been played - but just havent been fulfilled.... what are the reasons for this? why can they not just play the games? the county have hardly been to blame this season they were so poor - maybe they should have released the girls back to their clubs to get a bit of playing time....

The Minors play an All Ireland Semi Final at the weekend. With many key players missing due to a recent spate of injuries it will be a big test of their resources to continue to perform at this level in spite of all the demands placed on them. I wish them well in their pursuit of an All Ireland Final and hope club commitments for the girls throughout this week do not further impact on their ability to do themselves and our county justice.
