Down ladies - Proper message board

I think Willtowin raises a fair comment about the running of the Ladies Championship. In order to allay any queries about the semi-final draw, perhaps the County Board may wish to comment answering the following questions;

Was the initial draw for the Championship as indicated by Willtowin? If so, why were the rules changed at the semi-final stage? Who decided (and on what authority) to change the rules and have an open draw at this stage after the Championship had started? When did this draw take place and who was invited to attend?

Again to allay any queries, could County Board publish the rules for the Championship on this site so that everyone can judge whether everything is in order ?

I can confirm that an open draw did take place with a representative from each of the four semi - finalists present and no complaint so argument over.

timesticking does not answer the questions asked so I will ask again for an "official" response from County Board who have yet to respond. As southside indicated, the official website has for some considerable time given the semi finals as Bredagh v Clonduff and Carryduff v Saval on dates to be agreed. When, by whom and for what reason were these pairings changed? The absence of any comment form official sources has led to much confusion and it would be fair to all the teams involved to have my original questions answered to clear the air once and for all. Over to you County Board!!

I think you will find that the way these fixtures are announced on the down website are misleading. This is just simply stating that those are the four remaining teams and the the draw wwas due to take place at a county board meeting which would determine who faces who. The website has mislead us all but this is the accurate findings in all goings on

Timesticking is entitled to what I assume is a personal comment. Perhaps in addition to earlier queries I should now ask;

Does the Down website reflect the views of County Board and if not, whose views does it reflect?

If the open draw resulted from a proposal at a County Board meeting held during the Championship, who made it and was such a proposal in order?

Given the circumstances as they stand and the precedent set, can all teams in the county now assume that in future championships in all codes an "open draw" at semi final stage will be a statutory requirement.

As before I and many others await official comments/responses to these and earlier questions. Let us all hope that the season will not be dominated by actions off the field rather than all the hard work going on to further the ethos of the GAA throughout the county.

I dont think a message board is the place for a county board to answer anything. If you want your questions answered and you are a member of the ladies gaa in Down then I suggest you go to this years AGM and put these questions to the county board yourself. On a lighter note I would like to wish the Down ladies all the best for their championship match on sunday.

Hear Hear!

Good luck to the ladies + their managment team this weekend!

just to let those who are interested know. I have found out from a member of the Carryduff club, yes the team who have drawn Bredagh in the semi finals, that it was always the county boards intention to have an open draw in the ladies championship this year, never was there a pre set for the championship games. The motion to have an open draw was was put forward, was then second by another committee member and on a general vote was passed by the county board prior to the draw of the first round games

I have been reading these comments and to be honest there is no point in arguing about who should have been playing who.

The draw had been made.....END OF STORY!!!!

All the best to the Ladies on Sunday

Let the battle commence. two city sides drawn against each other in the championship. We will show who the real queens of the city are when we take Bredagh out of the senior championship. Im so glad we got this draw as i feel if we had played them in the final they might have beaten us. All the best to the Down ladies (minus the best club teams players) on sunday. Hope yas do yourselves justice and can stick with Monaghan for the duration.

Congratulations to Michaela Downey, Aileen Pryes and Orla Fegan for making the Division 2 Team. This is a great achievement for these girls and well deserved as they have been playing great for Down this season so far.

Any thought on what the team will be on Sunday.
Think it should be the same team against tipp with the exception of Emma Mulhern as she is injured
Cant see a stronger team than that one

Just in response to all the nonsense about conspiracy theories. The ladies County Board (which includes all club reps) took the decision to make the championship an open draw in 2009. The decision was taken before any championship draws were made and not half way through as was suggested (As a club rep i can verify this to be true). As for the Down website, the ladies have only availed of the website for the first time in 2009 for the reporting of games, results and league tables so that all the relevant information relating to the ladies game is in one defined space accessable by all. There are always going to be teething problems when new things are embarked upon but i congratulate the County Board on their attempts to bring the ladies game into the limelight and give them the media space they deserve. As mentioned in another post its easy to hide behind a forum and if you still have any concerns feel free to raise them at the next meeting in the thierafurth inn on 27th July or through your club rep....

Your good source is not so good duff, the team has not been named nor does it be until just before the match as is always the case with these two men.

Suns team is definetly more balanced. Duff's team has too many changes to the one that played Tipp. We cant change a winning team that much.

Monaghan as we all know have an awesome forward line but I think their back line is their weak link. They are dodgy enough and maybe this because they have made a lot of changes from last year. Lets hope this continues on Sunday.

With the likes of 'pies' and michealla playin the best football of their lives and the comeback from injury of Lyndsey, i think we will have too much for them going forward.

What do you think?
