On Eliza Downey - I hear she plays Rugby now and hasn made many Gaelic sessions for her county, i find this bizarre for an all star nominee.. they should be the most committed, hopefully she sticks to the Gaelic!!! downman41 (Antrim) - Posts: 6 - 01/12/2008 22:16:57 154292 Link 0 |
Eliza hasnt made many sessions for her county because the managers have told her to stay away and complete her rugby and then come back into the fold. A bit unfair on all the other girls who are busting themselves at present with the training. The lads are fairly good with dual players so i hope they are treating Eliza in the same light..... duff (Down) - Posts: 145 - 02/12/2008 08:40:26 154448 Link 0 |
Any truth in the rumour that Poucher is taking the down ladies for a few sessions.... He has the masterclass in coaching already with his all ireland winning season with St Columbans. He also took Castlewellan ladies to a championship final few seasons back. He would have the respect of everyone in the county and perhaps this could become a more permanent fixture.................... pouchiesarmy (Down) - Posts: 29 - 02/12/2008 10:09:04 154516 Link 0 |
Would doubt this very much. Why would they want him to take any sessions. I agree that he may be a decent coach and fair play to him on his all-ireland victory but one swallow doesn't make a summer. I think he has a lot more to prove. The two lads that are there are very good coaches and certainly have no need for any outside assistance so let them get on with it. gaaforall (Down) - Posts: 130 - 02/12/2008 11:02:17 154571 Link 0 |
That would be a superb move if Stephen was to come on board.... He is a real gentleman ona nd off the field and as you say would get the respect of all involved in the ladies association. I admire his calmness in a pressure situation... A great addition and The sooner this happens the better for all concerned......... singer (Down) - Posts: 330 - 02/12/2008 11:33:29 154585 Link 0 |

Our Mr Poucher has left burren and is now the manager of the Kingdom apparently........... Good move for them but bad move for the ladies......... And he does get a little worked up on the line alright from time to time - but who doesnt........ pouchiesarmy (Down) - Posts: 29 - 03/12/2008 08:47:05 155519 Link 0 |
Can someone please tell me what the big thing is about this lad Poucher. He won an all-ireland and i agree thats no mean feat but what else has he done. I don't believe he has won anything else as a coach. Yes he got Castlewellan to the county final a few years ago but castlewellan were the favourites from the start of that year and they were then beaten by clonduff who were playing in there first year in the senior championship. And as a spectator that day I certainly wouldn't say he is calm on the sideline. Then he got his all-ireland with his school which is definitely a credit to him and them but every now and then a great school team comes along and this was theres. Yes they have to be coached and managed and he done that very well but this does not make him this fantastic manager. He then went to Burren as a trainer and although he wasn't calling the shots as manager nothing much came out of that either. I just think he has a lot more to prove as a manager and schools football is so unpredictable that we cant judge him solely on one success. Look the lad is a good trainer but Mickey Harte he is not. He is still young and has a lot to learn about managing. He may be one for the future but don't build him up to be something he is not. gaa2 (Down) - Posts: 116 - 03/12/2008 09:48:08 155578 Link 0 |
Unrest in the camp already and its just into December. I believe one player has walked out due to managements refusal to give her a break from training........ Thats not good for harmony as the year approaches... Maybe Poucher should be brought in..... singer (Down) - Posts: 330 - 05/12/2008 08:48:30 157520 Link 0 |
Ladies played a game yesterday against Queens team.... They won by couple of points in the end but wasnt impressed with their performance at all. Again without Michaela Downey they would have been hammered as the goals started leaking through a shady defence rather easily... But it was only a friendly game i suppose and few of the girls havent been playing football in a while so they would have been a bit rusty..... Have they any more friendly games coming up soon????? singer (Down) - Posts: 330 - 15/12/2008 08:48:10 164150 Link 0 |
Ladies were very good yesterday with Caroline o'Neill, Laurelle Campbell and Kylie Doherty all making their debuts and impressing with their performances... Also there were a number of Down players past and present playing for Queens and they also gave a good account of themselves.... Think Madine should still be on the panel though - but she didnt prove myuch yesterday... Player of the match was definitely Ciara Mc Ardle at full back... She was outstanding from start to finish and hopefully this is a sign of things to come from her.. A real good player................ duff (Down) - Posts: 145 - 15/12/2008 14:10:09 164352 Link 0 |

Everyones talking about this poucher lad, but can anyone tell me what happened to the lad from Armagh who was training the minors last year. Surely he could be brought in to help with the seniors as the reports were his training was very good and he would know some of the girls already. coo4ever (Down) - Posts: 1 - 21/12/2008 20:00:23 169032 Link 0 |

i tink bransford wil win it and evr1 else wil lose it as only 1 team can win wat a stupid question......... brfforlife (Down) - Posts: 136 - 27/12/2008 13:23:54 170674 Link 0 |
on paper they have the best team in county but have no silverwear to show, however if bryansford have all their players back from injury, no team will be able to compete with them.. they will dominate, just like they did at underage level. i think saval will also become a strong force in the senior league................... downman41 (Antrim) - Posts: 6 - 29/12/2008 17:40:00 171130 Link 0 |
