The auld abacus is still in the cupboard. FairPlay to Wmeath. I did indicate that if they lost the 3 remaining games that they could be relegated. It doesn't mean that my calculations were inaccurate.

Well Paddy power removed odds for us getting relegated after last weeks games and I presume they have a fairly good way of working it out..

Snapper even before today's result between Wexford and Westmeath it would have been impossible for Wexford and Laois to finish on 9 points, Armagh finishing on 8 points and Galway on 7 points with the remaining head to heads. Dogfight to see who joins Longford in Div 3. Westmeath look home and hosed regarding Div 1.

well ged I wasn't implying your calculations were inaccurate for each team individually but have you looked at it the same way as Killoughter. With head to heads it's impossible for everyone to win. Anyway on a Westmeath note, delighted with the win today and lets see what happens in the last two games

Well done to the westies today, home and hosed for div one, and a bit like other years scenarios, likely they will replace kerry in div 1 karma is a bitch, only for blatant unfairness by ref last summer wmeath would have beat kerry in champ, anyway well done again

I was at the match today in Wexford. First of all Wexford are a quality side. We couldn't deal with their inside forward line with Brosnan and Roche causing mayhem. Wexford were bossing midfield and all the breaks until Waters was sent off. The sending off was a bit of a farce. Waters pushed the ball into Heslin and knocked him over. Linesman call and completely incorrect. Shouldn't have even been a yellow, just a hop ball. The thing is that that didn't change the game. Wexford powered on and built up a 5 point lead. We were hitting very bad wides until we got the penalty. After that Wexford managed to build another 2 point lead but that was the end for them. We in the last 10 scored something like 2-4 and that buried Wexford then.

I thought Westmeath were poor for 55 minutes but were very good for the last 15. Fitness was certainly a key in us finishing so strongly.

Wexford didn't really help themselves with their style of play. They love to hold on to the ball and bring their half backs forward creating extra men. When they are on top they can't be stopped. When it falls apart like the last 10 minutes Westmeath just hit them on the break. There were three passages when we had 3 on 1 in the last 10 minutes due to Wexford sending too many backs forward and not retreating.

Sharry made a massive difference when he came on in the 2nd half and his distribution was 1st class. Dessie linked very well when he came on. Denis was frustrating as ever but finished off them two goals beautifully. Heslin has had better games for Iarmhí and Waters was marking him out of it until he was sent off. In any case they way Heslin finished off that penalty was just class.

It's great that we are winning and that there is a hunger to win in the team especially when things are not going our way like the majority of the game today.

Looking forward to the Armagh game. Won't be easy though.

Massive win today for Westmeath down in Wexford, one which certainly puts them in a very commanding position at the top of a very tight and competitive NFL division 2.

The team has been a real revelation this year, division 2 status already secured with two games still remaining and with only one more point now needed to guarantee themselves a place in the NFL division 1 next year.

Well done for your never say die efforts up to now, division 1 football next year if it were to happen would only be a bonus now I'm sure.

For the life of me I cannot understand how anyone in Westmeath would believe that Louth people would hate Westmeath, there no reason too, certainly not now or in the past either has there ever been any hatred towards Westmeath.

I'll certainly be one Louth poster who'll be congratulating Westmeath if/when they win promotion and I'm sure there'll be plenty more Louth poster who will do likewise.

Anyway there is still a small matter of some football to be played before all things in the division are finally sorted out.

I'll bheith ar ais !!!!!!!

snapper thanks for positves in the post, just going back on mathemathics im pretty sure it will take a miracle for us not to go up at this stage,i think even if we lose our two games we still go up ,based on head to head.I think it's over as regards division 1 it will be westmeath and derry, relegation longford and I am going to say armagh will go,not the best of times to take a break for jamie clarke.Have to say this is a good westmeath team who have not hit top form just yet, playing badly and winning is the sign of a good team

The following results in the last two rounds would leave every team except Westmeath and Longford on 7 points! What are the odds?

March 31st: Galway beat Wexford, Louth beat Derry, Drogheda Westmeath draw with Armagh, Laois beat Longford
April 7th: Westmeath beat Derry, Longford beat Louth, Wexford beat Laois, Armagh beat Galway

It's not over until ......

It could go to score difference if a few teams finish on 9 !

Yes Westmeath could probably lose their last two games and still get promoted but mathematically they could fail to get promotion if they don't pick up another point.

There are 5 teams chasing them up, one on 7 points and four on 5 points so promotion isn't guaranteed.

Derry and Laois would probably be the biggest dangers to the promotion hopes of Westmeath should all three finish on 9 points, score difference would then apply instead of head to head. I'd fear for Westmeath in this situation as Derry will certainly have a better score difference than Westmeath and Laois will too if they were to find themselves tying on points at the top.

Louth, Galway and Wexford are not out of the promotion race either but they could be relegated also something which wont happen to Westmeath.

score difference or head to head first? Say Galway and Armagh were equal on points but the winner of there fixture would decide who stays up not the score difference? Correct me if I had a few too many.......

Where 2 teams are involved its head to head, if their game happened to end in a draw then score difference would click in.

Where 3 or more teams are level on points score difference will be used firstly, head to head will be next if score difference are the same.

Dont see us getting anything against Westmeath and think the match with Galway is likely to decide which of the two of us goes down with Longford

I see Heslin has 2:22 so far in the league. His two goals were penalties but that is still some scoring for a midfielder.

Heslin is a class act, possibly the best midfielder in the country at present.

His free taking, particularly against Laois, has been something to marvel at. Hopefully he can keep up the form for the Carlow game.
